Sarah's POV –

“Papa, I’m home.” Grace ran toward him and threw herself into his arms.

I smiled at the sight of her being so close to her father, especially after learning that she only had him as her mother had passed away. It pained me to think that, at such a young age, she carried the immense loss of her mother during the time when she should be showered with her care.

“She’s adorable, isn’t she?” I turned to Ethan and noticed the surprised look on his face.

What’s going on? Why did he make that expression when he saw Grace’s father? Did they have some sort of conflict? Does this mean I should keep my distance from Grace? Ah... now I’m starting to worry.

I tugged at Ethan’s fingers to snap him out of it. “What’s wrong, Ethan?” I asked softly.

“Papa, Sarah and Uncle brought me home,” Grace's voice drew my attention again as Richard looked our way. I watched them walk toward us, and her father’s expression was the same as Ethan’s—surprised.
