Chapter 7

Veronica’s POV

Falling onto my bed, I curled into a ball and tears just kept pouring out. The soft hum of the light filled the silence. It was late, and the moon cast a pale glow through the blinds, it casted painting stripes on the floor. I was trying to fall asleep but my thoughts kept drifting back to Logan. It was the first time he had raised his voice at me.

Today had been the breaking point, with him snapping at me over something so stupid, so childish. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something much deeper was bothering him, and I don’t think it was the fact that I was underfed. It couldn’t be. And why would he care for me? Why would he want to be nice to someone that is nothing in a pack? A knock at the door snapped me back into reality.

My heart raced as I stood up. I took a big breath and dried my tears and made my way across the room. I didn’t want to see anyone right now, especially not Logan. But the knock came again, more insistent this time. My hands trembling slight
