Chapter 13: Lie

I stared at my little son, his innocent blue eyes seem to pierce through my heart. “Mom, do we have a daddy too? Where is he?”

“Your daddy…” I was quite speechless. I didn’t know what to say. But no matter how much I tried to avoid this conversation with them all these years, I know that the moment I’ve been dreading for has come.

“Your daddy is away working, darling.” I swallowed the lump on my throat and stared at his curious eyes. “He’s very busy, that’s why you haven’t met him yet.”

Calvin slowly frowned, showing more curiosity upon hearing my words. “What kind of work does he do?”

“He’s… He’s a businessman.” My heart was pounding so fast in nervousness… and guilt. “He travels a lot and can’t really go home to us. But he loves you very much.”

“Will he come home one day?” He questions again. The thoughtful look on his face made my heart tightened.

“Yes, darling.” I lied, feeling pained that I had to go tell him all these lies. “One day, he will.”
