121. Why would I ever want it

“I can’t believe you’re making me do this.” Marcus grumbled as we went down the stairs.  “Good, now also remind yourself why.” I said, glaring over my shoulder. I couldn’t understand why he was so upset with me. Did he really think I was doing this all for Lucien? The man tried to abduct me, for heaven’s sake! Why would I ever favor him? Moreover, even if I was favoring him, I would own up to it. I would never use Bella as an excuse to do it, he should know at least that.  I heard him sigh in defeat as I walked to Bella’s room. Ignoring his sulking figure behind me, I raised my hand up to knock on the door. We were patiently waiting outside the room but Bella never arrived. Frowning, I knocked again but was again greeted by silence.

122. Enough

Lucien was standing there in utter disbelief, unable to accept what he just heard. He slowly started making his way toward us, his eyes desperately searching for an answer he wanted to hear.  “What are you talking about?” He finally uttered, walking toward her.  “Lucien,” I started, “You shouldn’t-”  “No,” he raised his hand up to stop me, “I need to hear it.” And then, he looked toward Bella again, “What did you just say?”  She gritted her teeth before she said, “You shouldn’t have made that deal with my brother.”

123. Farthest from him

Lucien was about to get into a car when I called his name. Picking up the pace in my steps, I hurried toward him. He shoved his bag into the back seat before he turned around to look at my approaching figure, a determined look etched on his face.  “What?”  “You can’t possibly think she means what she said.” I said, “You of all people should know that she is clearly lying.”  “Honestly, I don’t care.” he said, “Because no matter what the truth is, Marcus is never going to let me be with her. I was willing to fight for her until my last breath, but if she refuses to admit her love for me infront of her own family, then perhaps I deserve better.”

124. Cant or wont?

“Stop ogling your man, Kiara.” Bernard said from beside me.  I instantly widened my eyes as blood rushed to my face. Oh, god. Turning toward him, I fixed him with a glare.  “What?” He mumbled back at my reaction, as though it was part of the normal now.  Scowling, I nodded to my right where Marcus was also training close by. We were definitely within his ear shot, and I was sure he had heard what Bernard said just now.  “So what?” Bernard dismissed me and rolled his eyes, “Hopefully it will make him think straight.”  Surprisingly, amidst everything, Bernard emerged as the sole warrior

125. Did you leave me a choice?

I halted in my footsteps as I noticed Amanda sitting with Marcus in the living room. I hadn’t met him even last night when I arrived from the forest as he had already gone to sleep. I felt a pang in my chest when I realized that he didn’t wait until I returned as he usually did. When I awoke this morning, he had already left the room. I assumed he had work to take care of as Ethan mentioned last night, so when I found him with his mother in the living room, I was slightly taken aback. “I know this is not how you wanted to celebrate your engagement, Mark.” Amanda sighed, “But given the circumstances, it would be a shame to let go of this opportunity to use in our favor.” “I understand,” He said, “But I’m not the only person that needs to be on board with this.” “I can talk to Kiara. I doubt she’ll have a problem with it.” “I’m sure, but that’s not who I was talking about.” He said, “I’m more concerned about Bella. She’s not speaking to any of us, how can we expect her to make an

126. Not always the solution

Marcus’ POV  The scent of her was tormenting me.  She was everywhere. In our living room, in our garden, between our sheets, and most important of all, in my thoughts. No matter how much I desired to stay away from her, she just kept infiltrating my mind and space. And now, as she looked out the window of the car with a pout, all I desired to do was pull her towards me and comfort her.  But I couldn’t.  Everytime I wanted to show her any love, her actions from the past few days came into my mind. I could never forget how she worked with Lucien, how she let me think that striking up that deal with him was a good idea, how she constantly worked in favor of the man that killed my father.

127. Get back at me

“What did she say to you?” I asked resentfully as I eyed the store behind her.  How could I forget to warn her to not go into that store? Of all the shops present there, she had to pick that one. That store was owned by Audrey’s mother, who was no better person than her. If anything, she was only more brutal. I couldn’t imagine what she must have said to Kiara to send her out crying like that. “Kiara, tell me.” I asked once again.“I’m alright,” She insisted, suddenly moving away from my chest. Wiping her tears from her cheek, she looked up at me, “I just want to go home.”“What about your dress?” I asked, “We-“

128. Resuscitated

The day of the engagement arrived sooner than I’d wished for. Before I knew it, the house was filled with various staff members setting up the lights, music and a podium. Marcus was busy taking care of the arrangements, barely allowing me a glimpse of him.  While all of this was in process, Amanda had sent Andy, one of the staff members to help me get ready. She was a very sweet girl who was skilled enough to effortlessly bring out the best out of my appearance for the evening. Upon her advice, I had foregone my wish of leaving my hair down and instead let her tie it up in a messy bun. With strands of hair loosely hanging by either side of my face, I stared back at the reflection in the mirror. I was quite impressed with my look, which was very rare since I always find something to complain about myself.  “Where

129. Show you off

It took me a while to compose myself before I decided it was time to head out. Taking a deep breath in, I swallowed the lump in my throat. Kissing Marcus had opened the floodgates to my emotions, and I only had myself to blame. Although he kissed me back with equal fervor, I somehow felt like he didn’t want me. It was perhaps because he had asked for some space and I didn’t give him that. After the little attention he gave me the other day at the market, I was hopeful that his anger toward me was slowly melting away. And perhaps it was, but we weren’t there yet. I will deal with it all later tonight, when I finally plan on confronting him about what he truly wanted from me now. But for now, I had other things to worry about. Mustering up some courage, I walked out of my room and went down the stairs to face reality. As I walked int

130. Only time will tell

“What the hell is he doing here?” Natalie asked.    I was still surprised by what I was seeing, but I managed to give her an answer, “He’s the Alpha now.”    “Yes,” Marcus added, leaning away from the counter that he earlier found support on. “And that must be his date for the night.”   “Or the Luna of the Smith pack.” I winced at my words. Leslie was back with Asher now? How in hell did she manage that?    “As far as I’m aware, there was no news about the new Luna of the Smith Pack,” Marcus said, “So for now, you don’t owe her any kindness.”    A smile couldn't help but form on my face upon hearing his words. As I turned my head, I foun
