Chapter sixty one: There is always a choice

KAMARIA POV Damn bloody Damien, ambushing me like that, I cursed furiously in my mind as we drove home. I should have expected such a sneaky thing from him. "Mum, who is he?"I took a deep breath to calm myself, no need letting my daughter know how rattled I am by Damien's visit. I turned to look at her and once again hit by her remarkable resemblance to her father. If it wasn't so, I wished painfully in my heart as I held her eyes. Time was running out for me to come clean, I know that, but I just can't bring myself to tell her the truth. I know I am a coward, but I am just scared. Scared of loosing her. How will she react if she finds out that I lied to her. "No one," I whispered and turned to concentrate on my driving. We drove the rest of the way in silence with Davina not asking any more about Damien, thank God. "Do you have any homework?" I asked when we walked through the door.

Chapter Sixty two: I don’t believe you

DAMIEN POVSo yesterday Kamaria managed to thwart my plans of seeing my daughter. Well today I wasn't giving her the choice. The Principal of the school is an old acquaintance of my father. I hadn't planned on using his influence to get what I wanted because I didn't want him knowing my business, but with Kamaria interference yesterday I had to use another means to get in touch with my daughter. Yesterday I had called him up to ask for the favour, which the little sneaky bastard had used as a door way to wriggle a favour for himself. He had agreed to help me only if I allowed his son who just graduated from college to intern in my company. That was an easy favour to grant but I didn't like it that I had to come to him for a favour in the first place. I arrived at the school and made my way through the corridors towards the Principal's office. The corridors were deserted which means the students were indoors having

Chapter Sixty three: Did something happen at school?

KAMARIA POV Today has been so busy that I barely had any break to take lunch. Bagging the PK motors contract opened our doors to an influx of contracts. Most of the companies walking through our doors is because they were impressed with what we did for PK motors and wanted the same quality of work, and having so many of them at once has me so occupied that I almost forgot what is looming over my head. I was meant to visit a law firm that my old boss recommended for me today but there was hardly any time. I need to take care of that because our hearing has been scheduled to start next week. The telephone on my desk rang pulling my attention from the laptop screen in front of me. “Hello,” I said distractedly, focused more on the work I am doing for a company that sells natural made juice drinks. “Miss Paisley there is a man here to see you. Says he is from Mr Anisworth,” Noah said into the phone. “Let him in.”

Chapter Sixty four: I am a big fat liar

KAMARIA POV “Like what? She turned to look at me.” The fury in her eyes staggered me. “I don’t know, like whatever it is that is making you so mad.” “I said I am fine, please will you drop it!” “Hey! Don’t speak to me like that young lady!” Whatever, she turned to look out the window again, but I wasn’t going to let her rudeness go. “Don’t whatever me, what is going on with you?!” She kept silent. Her behaviour began to worry me, but I know she wasn’t going to speak to me unless she is ready to. I took a deep breath to calm myself, there is no need for both of us to lose our heads. I am the adult here. “I know something is troubling you, I am here if you want to talk.” “So that you can lie to me,” she scoffed. I turn to look sharply at her, a little taking aback my her accusation. “What is that supposed to mean?” “Nothing.” I know insisting on getting an answer will get me nowhere, so I let it go. When we got home she took off toward the house like she was being chased d

Chapter Sixty five: She is smart

DAMIEN POVI waited patiently for her to answer my question, while keeping my eyes on her face. The little girl intrigues me, not just because she is my daughter, which is a huge part, but because of the way her mind works. She is brilliant, and has proven in the little time we have spent together. “I don’t want to make her sad,” she whispered. Her response threw me for a loop. “What do you mean?” Again she hesitated. I wondered if she worries that she is betraying her mother’s secret by speaking to me about her. I wouldn’t push her, the reason for this outing was for me to get to know her and she me, for that I will be very patient. “She cries every time, mostly when she looks at me.”I wasn’t expecting that. Why would Kamaria cry when she looks at our daughter. And then it hit me. our resemblance. So it is not me alone that sees it. “She thinks I don’t know, but I know,”she continued staring into the distance. “Know what?” I asked gently when she stopped. She blinked as if I

Chapter Sixty six: Time to come clean

DAMIEN POVEven though I suspects that my child’s well-being isn’t the reason for Lily refusal to meet my child what she said made sense. “You are right,” I grudgingly agreed. “So why did you call?” “I thought we could have lunch together, but I see you have already had one.” “Was that jealousy I had in her voice.”Lily is not yet on board with me bringing my kid into our lives, but I believe she needs to meet my girl and she will loose her heart to her, just like I have done. My daughter is adorable, and charming. I believe anyone that get a chance to interact with her will fall in love with her. “Well what I had wasn’t satisfying, I believe I could do another lunch. Where are you so I could pick you up?” She gave me the location of her latest shoot and I started and drove off in that direction. KAMARIA POV“How was school today honey?”I asked Davina as we drove home.

Chapter Sixty seven: How dare you?

DAMIEN POVI was in a meeting in my office when the door opened forcefully and Kamaria badges in with fire in her eyes and my secretary hot on her heels. The fury in her eyes could be seen from miles away, and I could see she was ready to explode, but she had the good sense to wait for me to clear the room. Her presence sparked the curiosity of my employees in the room, because most of them could remember her from years ago. “Can we have the room,” I said calmly, even though my mild was wondering what could possibly be wrong. My first thought has something happened to my daughter. Once the room cleared she lit up like fireworks. “How dare you?” She snarled, all her features tensed with her fury. I ignored her fury and asked after my daughter. “Has something happened to Davina?” I sat forward earnest in my worry for my daughter. My query made her even more furious. If it is possible for her to burn me to crisped with her eyes alone I will be ash. “That is none of your business

Chapter Sixty eight: An insurance

DAMIEN POVI walked into Max office unannounced, luckily he had no client in and his secretary was missing. “Damien!”My presence was a surprise to him, like I said unannounced. Before he could say another word I dropped an envelope in front of him. “I want you to use this during trial.”Next week is the start of the custody trial and I am not leaving anything to chance. Max picked up the envelope without an iota of interest on his face. “What is this?”“Just an insurance.”My cold tone made Max look at me sharply, his dark brown eyes narrowing suspiciously in my direction. “What did you do?”I relaxed back in his sofa crossed my legs at the knees, looking totally unconcerned by the accusation in his tone. “Damien!!!”Dragging out my name was supposed to prompt me into talking, but the envelope can speak for itself. “Why don’t you open it and see for yourself.”There was a bit of excitement in my voice as I thought about what is in that envelope and how damming it is going to b

Chapter Sixty nine: Bar scene

KAMARIA POV“Hey are you alright?”I put down the drink I had in my hand to look towards Jonathan sitting across from me. “What do you mean?”It is Friday night and I am hanging out with my best friends. We haven’t hung out like this since I came back to the State, and Bobby being a family man hopping bars seems to be a thing of the past. It was Jonathan’s idea we come out this night. Cost me a fortune to get a baby sitter at a short notice despite Davina insistent argument that she is old enough to be on her own. Well I don’t want child services knocking on my door trying to take my kid away, have got enough of that from her father. “You seem distracted,” Jonathan yelled in a slightly loud voice from across the table. The bar is getting rowdier as more people came in. It is Friday night and the bar is bound to get crowded as the evening wears on. With the added loud music conversation is a tad hard. Jonathan was right, I am distracted. The reason I accepted this outing is to ke

Chapter Seventy: I am scared

KAMARIA POV We called it a night at eleven pm, deciding to go home before we get absolutely drunk. We are no longer as young as we used to be. Being reminded that you are growing old can be depressing. Outside the bar I tightened the red coat I had over the black gown I wore for the evening. It has gotten pretty cold. As the winter months draws closer the nights are getting chillier. It is a lot quieter than usual on the streets, with few drunk teenagers making ruckus here and there. “Do we use one taxi?” Jonathan asked clutching his jacket closer to his slim frame. He had his hands protectively tucked into the pockets of his leather jacket. “Might be wise,” Bobby agreed. He looked unaffected by the weather, and had the list covering over the shirt he wore for the evening. Even though we leave in different streets using one Uber means we don’t get to leave someone behind. Jonathan called the Uber. While we waited, a white Toyota jeep pulled up to me, and the glance whined do
