61: Don't Worry

He stepped on the gas and the speed went like crazy. His speed didn't scare me anymore. It feels like I'm already used to it. What makes me worry is the fact that a vampire is after my head and is willing to do anything to kill me. It sounds like a scene in some suspense movie, but I can't feel any kind of thrill at this point. I am afraid that the hunter would end up killing somebody else since he could not touch me because I am under a powerful vampire family's protection.I got my phone in my jeans and searched for Mom's number in my contacts. She won't be home soon, so we cannot talk in person. So I am left with no choice but to talk with her on the phone to say my alibi. In that way, she will not worry over me if I won't be home for the next few days."Hello, Eve. What's with the call?" Mom asked on the other line."Mom," I paused and organized my thoughts. I couldn't think of any alibi that I could use that would be be

62: Worried Jaxon

"And what would you do exactly to fix it?" I probed. I want to know. I am afraid of them engaging in a fight with that hunter who has abilities they are yet to discover, but I know that if the vampire government won't solve this as soon as possible, it is inevitable for them to oppress the hunter by force."You have nothing to worry about. There are nine of us in our family. Even though Roselle is not a fighter, our number is enough to oppress that hunter easily."Night came and Roselle cooked for my meal again. I told her that I know how a few things work in the kitchen, but she insisted that she would do it. So at the end, I just let her cook me a fried salmon. I praised her big time because even though her sense of taste is different from human's, she was able to do the cooking perfectly. I don't know if it is because she is a vampire that she can make anything possible, or if it is because she just puts passion into everything that

63: Another Revelation

Right after my quick bath and dressing, I went downstairs and saw everyone in the living room having some sort of informal meeting."Good morning, Eve," Roselle greeted sweetly."Good morning."Carter made me sit between him and Emery."Alright. As I was saying, the government can't act on this matter yet because they still have to deal with the big group of newborns in Russia that is spreading death all over the place. So what Florence had told me is that we should solve this matter ourselves and report the results later on.""I can catch and kill him, then. Problem solved," Crislord said. If only Thomas was around, I'm sure he would have said the same thing."Emery can track him down so it would not be hard for us to find wherever he is," Ross said."Or we can make her a bait," Venus butt in, her cold amber eyes were directed to me."Venus," Carter warned.Travis chuckled. "Come on, sis. There is no need for a bait. We

"Jaxon…" I mumbled too low for me to hear."Why are you here?" Franklin asked in a calm and controlled voice."This is a breach. You know that, don't you?" Jaxon replied, his tone lethal and I could almost hear in my mind the grinding sound of his teeth by the way he was clenching his jaw."I don't understand how this is a breach. As you can see…" Franklin stepped back a bit to show me. "Eve here is fine with us.""What is this Jax?" I asked. "Why are you with a bunch of…" I trailed off and looked at the wolves surrounding him."I am here to save you, Eve. I guess you don't even know what this family is hiding from you. They are monsters, Eve. They are evil!"Crislord growled at the same time Ross and Venus did."Monsters? Look at yourself, you mongrel. We don't shift like you, and here you are saying that we are the monsters?" Venus said with so much sarcasm.

65: Almost a War

I still couldn't believe it.I was already in Carter's room, sitting on his bed, about thirty minutes had already passed after the heated moment between Carter's family and Jaxon's pack, but still I could hardly believe that Jaxon is no ordinary human. He is not like Carter, but he is definitely a supernatural being considering that he can shift into a huge werewolf with supernatural abilities.Right after Franklin promised to oppress the hunter before sunset and to send me home as soon as possible, Jaxon somehow relaxed. I think Franklin's charm really works to anyone. You know, when you look at him, he would seem like a very kind person to you, someone who has a pure heart and is very gentle to others. Maybe that was part of the reason why Jaxon had calmed, because if Crislord was the one talking, I doubt if the werewolves would leave peacefully. They would more likely end up fighting each other without a valid reason."Th

66: Between the Two

It was a peaceful night for the both of us. I slept with a peace of mind because there is no killer vampire hunting for me, and Carter just by my side. The next morning, Carter was nowhere to be found when I woke up. He only left a message saying that he left to change and that he will be back afterwards.I did my morning routines with my usual pace. I was already combing my hair when I heard a different noise outside. I looked through the window, thinking that maybe it was Carter driving a four-wheeled vehicle rather than his Diavel. But to my suprise, it wasn't Carter I had seen. It was Jaxon who got out of a black jeep.Since I was done with everything necessary, I went downstairs at once. The image of Jaxon with all those werewolves is still so fresh to me that I feel like I don't know what to say around him. Nevertheless, I should still face him. After all, he is my friend. And I believe that he will remain to be

67: Not a Mistake

I walked away from him and went to Jaxon who was raising his brow at me as though I did something illegal. He opened his jeep for me so I could get in. He followed right away after I did."Seriously, Eve? Are you not bothered kissing him like that? He has fangs, you know," Jaxon said what was in his mind the whole time."He doesn't have fangs," I said matter-of-factly. Carter said that vampires don't have those mythical fangs. What they only have are very strong and sharp teeth. Though, I don't think I can even think of that while kissing Carter, nor anyone could. I could hardly even think straight. Every time he kisses me, I feel so intoxicated that my mind goes haywire."But you know he can rip any human's throat with his teeth.""Are we just going to talk about that?" I asked as he drove from Edmond's driveway."Fine, alright. We will not talk about your bloodsucker boyfriend.""Good. Now where are you taking me?""Lynndale

68: Fighting Friends

"So, you really want to be like him? To be a bloodsucker just because of that goddamn love?""We have different choices in life, Jax. And my choice is to be with him, why can't you just respect that?""I would respect it if it's something that is good for you, Eve, not the other way around!""How can you say that it's not something that is good for me when you don't even know what I feel?""What you feel is out of the equation, Eve. Not everything that feels good is good for you. Vampires are humans' biggest predator. They are dangerous. Being with them will only put your life in danger."I shook my head. "Put my life in danger? They just protected me, Jax. They saved me, so how can you say that they will only put my life in danger?" I am starting to get annoyed with him again. I hate how he is trying to ruin the Rellis' image in my mind. But I know better. Franklin and Roselle are very good people, and

69: Mad at Him

“Why did you pick this movie when you said you had watched it three times already?”“Because it is one of my favorite movies and I want you to know what my favorites are, including my favorite movie.”“We are still halfway to the end, but I got a strong feeling that it will not be a happy ending.”I smirked. In A Walk To Remember by Nicholas Sparks, when Jamie’s illness was revealed, it was quite obvious that it wouldn't be a happy ending. I learned about the movie first but I also read the book later on. I like movies, but I don’t know why I feel a lot more connection with the characters in the book and understand the emotions better. I guess maybe it is because in the book, you can read the characters’ emotions and thoughts through the lines. But I guess it’s not for everyone since there are also people who prefer to watch movies rather than just read books.“Well, you are right, the

70: Travel Plans

Jaxon may have been wrong for saying that but I understand that he did say that because he has valid reasons and I respect that as his friend. He only wants to save me from the danger he thinks I am into. I have no problem with that, but I just really hope that he will be sensitive to my feelings next time.“A bowl of cereal again? Aren’t you tired of that? You should eat something healthier, you know.”I chuckled. “What do you know about the healthy foods of humans, anyway?”“I have lived with humans for the past four centuries and it would be too dumb of me if I have no knowledge about your kind after all those years.”Well, he has a point. It is really a perk of being an immortal. However, I do not dream to live an eternal life in the world, so I decided that if I was given a choice, I would want to be like Carter. I only dream to become like him because through it, I would be able to be with him as long as I w
