CHAPTER 18

“How was work today?” Luther asked as soon as Charlotte walked into the house.

It was already evening, and they were all home.

Her brothers were seated on the couch. Ralph had a book in his hand, Earl was using a laptop, Carl had a plate of sliced apples, and Luther looked at her with his arms folded.

“Good. I met Ruan today, and he’s a great assistant,” she answered. “Hello, brothers.”

They all looked up at her, each of them smiling.

“Welcome home.”

“Welcome.”

“Anything for me?”

Carl stood up and walked with her as she headed for the stairs.

“I’ll come back downstairs after I’ve showered,” she informed them. “And I’m starving too.”

“Okay!” her brothers called after her. “Don’t be late.”

Sighing, she turned to Carl, who was walking right next to her. “Do you have something to say to me?”

He nodded, holding out the plate of apples for her to take. “Apples?”

She paused, picked up one of the apple slices with a fork, and popped it into her mouth. The taste filled her senses, and she smil
