CHAPTER 16

The sound of her phone ringing caught her attention yet again. Charlotte glanced at the phone sitting on her desk, a frown forming when she saw who it was—Milton.

“What does he want?” she muttered, irritation creeping into her voice. “Calling me like I owe him something.”

She was in her office, going through files that outlined everything she needed to know about the company. Connor sat next to her, while Rues was across from them. Connor’s eyes flicked to the screen as it rang, but Charlotte ignored the call and continued reading.

“There will be a party in three days,” Rues announced. “It’s not like other business parties. It’s a chance for you to meet the CEOs of the companies we’ve partnered with and receive invites from other companies as well.”

Charlotte’s stomach churned. She had always disliked parties, and this one would force her to introduce herself by her real identity and stay in the spotlight. The thought terrified her.
