CHAPTER 13

Charlotte grinned. “Okay.” She swiped the card on the machine.

“Payment Successful,” the machine beamed.

The saleslady smiled at Charlotte. “Congratulations. You are now the owner of everything in this store. Can I get your address so I can have it delivered?”

Charlotte shook her head. “Give me your contact information instead. I’ll text you the location.”

“Okay, ma’am.” The saleslady beamed. She hurriedly wrote her contact information on a sheet of paper and handed it to Charlotte. “Here it is, ma’am.”

Charlotte took the sheet of paper and tucked it into her handbag. “That’s all.” She took the phone she’d picked out earlier and glanced back at her brother and Connor. “I’m done.”

“Let’s go, then,” Ralph said.

It was then that she finally asked the question that had been on her mind. “Why are you here? I thought you had business to attend to.”

“I did,” Ralph replied. “I took care of it already. I’m here to get you. Your phone wasn’t going through.”
