Milton carried Olivia into the house, her hand wrapped around his shoulder. Getting into the house, he was expecting to see Charlotte in the house. He was waiting for her to come out and perhaps plead with him not to divorce.
“I heard my elder sister is married to you,” Oliva muttered, her gaze focused on him. “Why don’t I see her anywhere?”
He set her on the couch. “I already offered her the divorce papers, that Vixen has no place here after what she did to you.”
A pitiful look appeared on Olivia’s face. “It’s all my fault that you had to divorce Charlotte. If I didn’t wake up, you both would still be together. If I had died like she wanted me to, this wouldn’t have happened…”
“Pull yourself together Olivia. This has nothing to do with you, she got what she deserved…”
“But…”
“No buts.” He chimed in. “Forget about her. I will check if she is still home and if she is, I will make her sign the papers.”
Olivia nodded.
“What do you want to eat? I will ask the maids to make it for you.”
“Check up on my older sister first,” she mumbled, slightly trembling. “I am terrified to see her after all these years.”
Milton's jaw flexed, his fist tightening. “I will do just that.” he turned around and walked away, heading for the room.
As soon as he was out of sight. The pitiful and innocent look left Oliva’s face. She had a wide smirk on her face as she leaned back against the sofa.
Milton on the other hand walked into the room, he kicked the door open, and stormed in, expecting to see Charlotte but what he saw made his eyes widen. On the bed were torn pictures of them, including the wedding pictures.
His eyes scanned the room, all her stuff was in there but he noticed them as the ones he had bought for her. The decorations of the room were rearranged like it was before she came into his house.
Moving to the table, he found the divorce agreement on the table. Seeing that it was already signed, a frown appeared on his face. Just as he had suspected, Charlotte was only after getting everything that Olivia wanted out of spite.
Hurrying out of the room, he ignored Olivia who was calling out to him, and walked into the kitchen. The pot was still hurled across the floor with the contents all over the floor.
“Are you searching for Ms. Wilson?” The butler asked, appearing behind Milton. “She had already signed the divorce papers and left.”
“I know she has nowhere to go,” Milton muttered, a sneering smile appearing on his face. “Is she going to live on the streets? Or perhaps she had a man who would cater for her?”
“Four young men picked her up.” The butler confirmed.
Milton punched the wall across the kitchen as soon as he heard what the butler had said. His eyes flashed in fury. The butler flinched and slowly backed away from him.
Charlotte.
How dare she sign the papers that easily?
He could have waited to see who would have the guts to pick her up. It was more like she had planned ahead, knowing that a day like this would come. Questions ran through his head as he tried to think of who would have picked her.
Charlotte had no friends, so it made no sense, and that only added to his building fury.
“Are you okay?” Olivia appeared in front of the kitchen door, gripping the door to stop herself from falling. “I thought something was wrong? Did you find my sister?”
Milton's head snapped in her direction, her eyes flashing in concern. He brushed past the butler and picked up Olivia in his arms.
“You shouldn’t have left the sofa.”
“I was worried, did anything happen?” She questioned.
“Nothing happened.” He replied.
The butler sighed, a sad expression appearing on his face. ‘If only he was this nice to madam.’
“Tell the maid to make dinner for Olivia,” Milton said, glancing back at the butler.
“We don’t have a cook.” The butler revealed.
Stunned, he arched a brow. “What?”
“The last cook resigned and madam was the one cooking all the time. As for now, there isn’t a cook to make dinner.” The butler confirmed. “And I am out of the question because I can’t cook either.”
At the mention of Charlotte, a frown appeared on Olivia’s face.
“What about the current maids?”
“They turned in their resignation letter as soon as madam left.”
Milton was even more stunned. It all made sense that the pot was still across the floor. Not only had she been picked up by young men, but she went as far as taking his maids too. He hadn’t been bad with the maids, so one thing was sure.
She had asked the maids to resign.
“Tomorrow, hire new maids or get back the previous one.” He ordered before turning his attention back to Olivia. “Let’s eat out today.”
“I can cook.”
“Not today,” he replied. “It would be better for us to eat out today. I don’t want to stress you.”
“We can eat out if you invite the family.” Olivia pouted. “It has been a while since I have seen your family. I want to meet them again.”
“Okay.” He smiled at her.
He moved out of the kitchen. As soon as he left, the butler pulled out a letter from his pocket. It was a letter of resignation and he stared at it before sighing.
He pulled out a phone and dialed a number that the caller ID read ‘Mrs. Henderson.’

Stepping into the restaurant were Milton and Olivia. His gaze focused on the people at the end of the room, his mother was glaring at him, he could sense it from afar. He held Olivia and walked towards the table.
Pulling out a chair for Olivia, he waited for her to sit.
“Who is this bitch?” was the first question that came from someone at the table. It was Milton’s sister, Harper.
That question made Olivia flinch. She wasn’t expecting that at all.“Apologize right now, Harper,” Milton said, taking his seat next to Olivia.“Why would I?” Harper snapped, folding her hands. “You invited us to dinner and I agreed to be here because I thought my sister-in-law was going to be here but all I see is your mistress. How long have you been cheating on your wife?”Milton and Harper's relationship wasn’t good since they were kids but it grew even worse when he got married to Charlotte. It was like she was holding a grudge against him, one that she wasn’t ready to let go.“Charlotte and I are divorced,” Milton announced. His father, who hadn’t been paying attention to him, froze halfway. Harper's eyes widened and his mother scowled at him.“What do you mean?” Harper rose to her feet, slamming her hand against the table, loud enough to draw everyone in the restaurant's attention. “Why did you divorce Charlotte? Is this because of this bitch?” she pointed an accusation finger
Milton’s frown deepened. The entire conversation was being recorded, and what made it worse was the expression she was giving him. She no longer looked at him with warmth, even though she had just signed the divorce agreement a few hours ago.The people at the restaurant were now focused on Milton and Charlotte. A few recognized Milton, but they had no idea who Charlotte was.“Who is she?” one person asked. “Isn’t that Milton Henderson?”“I’ve always known he was married, but I had no idea I would get to see his wife on the day of their divorce.”“He divorced her for his ex? Unbelievable.”Seeing that everyone was speaking about him, Harper groaned. He was disgracing the family name yet again.“Charlotte, come with me, and we will go to a private space and talk about this,” Milton bristled.Charlotte frowned at him. “You still haven’t gotten it yet, Mr. Henderson. We have nothing to do with each other anymore.” She shoved her feelings aside and turned to her brothers. “Let’s get out o
Charlotte sighed in relief as soon as they were far from the restaurant. She had to control herself not to snap at him there, but he looked far different in just five hours after their divorce. Milton had always had a huge stain on him.“You know the stain on his white shirt?” Harper said with a grin. “I was the one who did it.”By this time, they were heading to the car. Her brothers had walked ahead, giving her privacy to talk to Harper.“You did a great job,” she responded.Harper’s eyes widened. “I thought you were going to reprimand me for doing that.”“I won’t.”“You usually do.”“Not anymore,” she implied.Harper shrugged. “How am I sure that you wouldn’t go back to him?”“I won’t. Not after all that he has done to me.”A smile broke on Harper's lips. “Sounds good to me.”“Could you tell Mom that I didn’t get married to her son like she asked me to? And I also didn’t greet her when I saw her—”“She wouldn’t mind,” Harper interrupted her. “Milton is going to have a hard time spe
It didn't take long for her to reach her parents, who wore expressions of seriousness.'They're going to scold me for sure,' she thought. 'They're going to ask why I refused to go with them previously.'Her father glanced down at her, and she felt so small, but his lips broke into a smile after a few seconds, stunning her.“Thank goodness you're back,” Laura cried out, pulling her daughter into her arms. The action startled Charlotte. She tried to pull back, but the hug was just too tight.“I thought you were never going to come back,” Laura said, then burst into tears.Charlotte was so stunned she had no idea how to respond. She didn't understand why they were acting that way because she was home.Although it felt weird to her that she was being hugged by a motherly figure, it felt so warm, too, that she wanted more.“Lotte,” her father called. “Welcome back.”It took an hour for Laura to let go of Charlotte. It would have taken longer if it wasn't for dinner. The family sat at the d
Ten days later, Milton was seated in front of his desk, his hand ruffling his hair in frustration.“Have you heard a word about her?” Milton questioned, leaning back against the chair and pinching the bridge of his nose. “Have you found her location?”He was on a phone call, and after asking his man to find the location of Charlotte, he had gotten no response so far.“No, sir,” the man on the other end of the call replied. “There has been no news about her so far.”“Did she go back home?”“I don’t understand the home you are talking about, sir.”“She isn’t at the Wilsons yet?”“Yes, she isn’t there.”“How could she not be there?” Milton questioned, yelling. He knew for sure that she didn’t have anywhere to go apart from the Wilsons, but he knew they wouldn’t want her to.“I have no idea, sir.”“Have you checked the streets to see if she’s staying there?”“Yes,” the man answered. “She wasn’t found. However, I heard about you seeing her the night after the divorce when she was given a L
“Are you ready?” Luther asked, leaning against the door and knocking.Inside, Charlotte was struggling to zip up her gown.“Almost,” she replied.“Do you need the maids to help you?”“No need.”“Do you need my help then?”There was silence before she replied, “Yes, I need help zipping up my dress. There is no more time to find something else.”“You can if you want to.”“I don’t want to be late.”“No one would do anything to you if you were late.”“Just because you will be there?”She could hear him chuckle from outside, bringing a smile to her face.“I am coming in now,” he announced. She spun around to look at the door as he opened it and walked in, smiling and already dressed in a handsome suit.“Are you planning to put the ladies at the meeting into a frenzy?” she teased, walking closer to him and turning her back.“No, I am not dressed up for the ladies.”The zipper was stuck in the middle, and he reached up to help her. When he was done, she breathed a sigh of relief, murmured a
Luther sat next to Charlotte, his gaze fixed on Milton. Luther slowly smirked as Milton glared at him.Charlotte, on the other hand, focused on the rest of the group, paying no attention to Milton. She saw him but chose to ignore him; they were strangers now.“Since you all are here,” Mrs. Henderson began, “we will start the meeting.”“Hold on,” one of the ladies at the table muttered. “I thought you said Charlotte Wilson was married to your son—”“Actually, I’m not a Wilson,” Charlotte corrected, her voice steady. “I was adopted and then rejected. I’m just Charlotte now,” she added, not wanting to use her old identity.Milton frowned. “Are you going to throw away the family that took care of—”“And as for my marriage with Mr. Henderson, we’ve already been divorced,” Charlotte continued, cutting Milton off as if she hadn’t heard him.A man at the table tilted his head, curiosity piqued. “So, you’re single now?”The question hung in the air, and Milton’s frown deepened when she didn’t
Luther grinned as Charlotte brushed past his hiding spot. He had heard everything that transpired between them and was proud that she didn’t let Milton fool her. He watched her walk out of sight and stepped out just as Milton was leaving.Their eyes met, and Luther sent a mocking smile Milton’s way.Milton glared at him, his brows knitting in anger. “How long have you been standing here?”“Since you walked in. I wanted to see what you would say to Charl, but I had no idea you were going to say something so pathetic. I don’t understand you. You're mad at her for moving on after the marriage, even though you moved on before the marriage ended.”Milton’s teeth gritted. “My life is none of your business, and stay away from Charlotte.”Luther’s lips curled into a grin. “Why would I stay away from her? Like she said, I won’t leave her even if our hair turns gray.”Those words angered Milton, and his fists tightened.“I should be the one asking you to stay away from her,” Luther added before
