CHAPTER 9_I Know You Love Me

Luther sat next to Charlotte, his gaze fixed on Milton. Luther slowly smirked as Milton glared at him.

Charlotte, on the other hand, focused on the rest of the group, paying no attention to Milton. She saw him but chose to ignore him; they were strangers now.

“Since you all are here,” Mrs. Henderson began, “we will start the meeting.”

“Hold on,” one of the ladies at the table muttered. “I thought you said Charlotte Wilson was married to your son—”

“Actually, I’m not a Wilson,” Charlotte corrected, her voice steady. “I was adopted and then rejected. I’m just Charlotte now,” she added, not wanting to use her old identity.

Milton frowned. “Are you going to throw away the family that took care of—”

“And as for my marriage with Mr. Henderson, we’ve already been divorced,” Charlotte continued, cutting Milton off as if she hadn’t heard him.

A man at the table tilted his head, curiosity piqued. “So, you’re single now?”

The question hung in the air, and Milton’s frown deepened when she didn’t
