That question made Olivia flinch. She wasn’t expecting that at all.
“Apologize right now, Harper,” Milton said, taking his seat next to Olivia.
“Why would I?” Harper snapped, folding her hands. “You invited us to dinner and I agreed to be here because I thought my sister-in-law was going to be here but all I see is your mistress. How long have you been cheating on your wife?”
Milton and Harper's relationship wasn’t good since they were kids but it grew even worse when he got married to Charlotte. It was like she was holding a grudge against him, one that she wasn’t ready to let go.
“Charlotte and I are divorced,” Milton announced.
His father, who hadn’t been paying attention to him, froze halfway. Harper's eyes widened and his mother scowled at him.
“What do you mean?” Harper rose to her feet, slamming her hand against the table, loud enough to draw everyone in the restaurant's attention. “Why did you divorce Charlotte? Is this because of this bitch?” she pointed an accusation finger at Olivia.
“Are you that stupid that you don’t realize when someone is tricking you?” Harper demanded.
Milton frowned, his brows twitching as he tried to control his anger. “Be quiet Harper, you don’t get to speak to me like that.”
“Just because you are two years older than me doesn’t mean that you can control me. You are just a piece of shit! A dumb rat with the brain of a 3-year-old.”
“Harper!” Milton yelled.
“A three-year-old is more sensitive than you would ever be,” Harper said, grabbing her bag. “I am out of here, you can continue with your stupid life. I only cared about your life because of Charlotte anyway. Good riddance!”
Harper glared at Olivia before walking off the table, only to turn back and grab a glass of wine. “Take this as a welcome gift bitch.” She tossed the wine at Olivia but Milton was quick to block it with his coat.
“Harper! Stop this right now.” Milton said, confused that his parents didn’t try to stop her like they always would whenever she was overreacting. “Olivia did nothing to you.”
“That’s the same way Charlotte did nothing to you but you bullied her anyway. So, I am not at fault here.”
Olivia was too stunned to speak, she was the one who should be bullying the weak not the other way around. She hasn't been attacked like she had been today.
“Milton, can we leave?” She tugged at his shirt, tears streaming down her face. “I am scared.”
A look of disgust appeared on Harper and Mrs. Henderson's faces.
“No Olivia,” Milton said, glancing at her. “As long as I am here, no one would harm you. Harper is just overreacting. This is just the effect of being manipulated by Charlotte.” he wiped the tears off Olivia’s face.
“Disgusting!” Harper muttered, grabbing another glass of wine, she poured it all over her brother’s head, making Olivia stunned. “Since I am supposed to be overreacting, I guessed the evidence would work.” She chuckled, a mischievous smile curling up her lips.
Milton didn’t have the time to respond because a loud voice rang in the air. Coming from outside the restaurant.
“Happy birthday!” Several males chanted, their voices filled with so much warmth. “You are now as free as the bird.”
The others at the restaurant had turned their gazes away from the Henderson’s. Their gaze shifted to the thing that was happening outside.
‘Is that a Lamborghini?’ Someone asked. ‘Is that the birthday gift that was handed to the celebrant.’
‘How lucky.’
Hearing this, Olivia couldn’t help but feel jealous. She hadn’t gotten such a gift on her birthday.
“Come to think of it,” Harper muttered. “Isn’t it supposed to be Charlotte’s birthday today?”
“They are coming in!” One of the ladies squealed. “How lucky can she get to have four handsome men by her side?”
At the mention of four men, Milton remembered what the butler had told him. Although, he had no idea if it was her, her birthday was today and she was picked up by four men.
It wouldn’t be a coincidence.
The lady came into view with a sweet smile plastered on her face. She had makeup on and was wearing the latest designer, Minton’s jaw dropped, he wouldn’t have recognized her if he hadn’t known her.
However, seeing the men next to her, he suddenly had a burst of anger, his knuckles turning white when he clenched his hands.
“Charlotte!” Harper yelled, disappearing out of sight and appearing next to Charlotte. She pulled Charlotte into a tight hug. “I am so sorry Lottie.” she purred.
Olivia’s teeth gritted in anger as she watched the four men surrounding Charlotte.
“Harper, you did nothing wrong,” Charlotte muttered, pulling away from the hug. “I know that you cared about me and I appreciate you for that.”
“Who is she?” Luther asked.
“She is my hus–ex-husband’s sister,” Charlotte replied.
Hearing that, Ralph came in between them, shoving Harper as far as he could away from Charlotte. “Sorry miss but no one from the Henderson family is allowed to get close to Charlotte.”
“Huh?” Harper muttered. “I would never hurt her! She is like my best friend or sister even.”
It was then that Milton recognized who they were. His fury worsened even more, Charlotte didn’t look like the woman who had pleaded with him for them not to get divorced.
Luther placed his arm on Charlotte's waist to bring her close to himself in a way that Harper wouldn’t be able to touch her again.
“Charlotte Wilson!”
Charlotte turned her gaze to where the voice had come from only to see Milton walking over to her. She stared at him from head to toe, the wine had stained his shirt and he looked like a walking mess.
Unlike before, she felt nothing as she stared at him.
“How may I help you, Mr. Henderson?” Charlotte demanded. “It’s not like we know each other that well for you to call me so informally. And for correction, I am not a Wilson, I was adopted, and you seem to know about it. So why call me that?”
Milton’s eyes widened, she hadn’t spoken to him like that before but he was too angry to care.
“Who are they?” Milton demanded, his voice cold and demanding.
“Mr. Henderson, I see no reason for you to ask me such a question.” She muttered, her head hung high. “What is our relationship like to be asking me such a personal question?”
Milton's lips parted. “Because we are married.”
“You seem to have a poor memory, Mr. Henderson.” Charlotte sneered. “We are divorced, aren’t we? And the reason for divorce is because your ex is back. Isn’t that right?”
Milton’s frown deepened. The entire conversation was being recorded, and what made it worse was the expression she was giving him. She no longer looked at him with warmth, even though she had just signed the divorce agreement a few hours ago.The people at the restaurant were now focused on Milton and Charlotte. A few recognized Milton, but they had no idea who Charlotte was.“Who is she?” one person asked. “Isn’t that Milton Henderson?”“I’ve always known he was married, but I had no idea I would get to see his wife on the day of their divorce.”“He divorced her for his ex? Unbelievable.”Seeing that everyone was speaking about him, Harper groaned. He was disgracing the family name yet again.“Charlotte, come with me, and we will go to a private space and talk about this,” Milton bristled.Charlotte frowned at him. “You still haven’t gotten it yet, Mr. Henderson. We have nothing to do with each other anymore.” She shoved her feelings aside and turned to her brothers. “Let’s get out o
Charlotte sighed in relief as soon as they were far from the restaurant. She had to control herself not to snap at him there, but he looked far different in just five hours after their divorce. Milton had always had a huge stain on him.“You know the stain on his white shirt?” Harper said with a grin. “I was the one who did it.”By this time, they were heading to the car. Her brothers had walked ahead, giving her privacy to talk to Harper.“You did a great job,” she responded.Harper’s eyes widened. “I thought you were going to reprimand me for doing that.”“I won’t.”“You usually do.”“Not anymore,” she implied.Harper shrugged. “How am I sure that you wouldn’t go back to him?”“I won’t. Not after all that he has done to me.”A smile broke on Harper's lips. “Sounds good to me.”“Could you tell Mom that I didn’t get married to her son like she asked me to? And I also didn’t greet her when I saw her—”“She wouldn’t mind,” Harper interrupted her. “Milton is going to have a hard time spe
It didn't take long for her to reach her parents, who wore expressions of seriousness.'They're going to scold me for sure,' she thought. 'They're going to ask why I refused to go with them previously.'Her father glanced down at her, and she felt so small, but his lips broke into a smile after a few seconds, stunning her.“Thank goodness you're back,” Laura cried out, pulling her daughter into her arms. The action startled Charlotte. She tried to pull back, but the hug was just too tight.“I thought you were never going to come back,” Laura said, then burst into tears.Charlotte was so stunned she had no idea how to respond. She didn't understand why they were acting that way because she was home.Although it felt weird to her that she was being hugged by a motherly figure, it felt so warm, too, that she wanted more.“Lotte,” her father called. “Welcome back.”It took an hour for Laura to let go of Charlotte. It would have taken longer if it wasn't for dinner. The family sat at the d
Charlotte stood in the kitchen, she was making her husband's favorite dish since it was their third anniversary. She texted him and asked him to come back home, so she was in a hurry to be done cooking before he came back. She hoped that he had read the text or at least remembered the anniversary, she hoped it wouldn’t be the same as the previous years. The sound of the kitchen door opening interrupted her thoughts. Assuming it was the maid, she called out, “I can handle the dishes myself. There’s no need to help me.” She spun around to find her husband standing there instead. “Milton?”Milton’s glare was colder and more pronounced than ever before. “Sign it,” he ordered, his voice devoid of warmth as he handed her a sheet of paper. “We are getting divorced, Charlotte.”Confused, Charlotte dropped the spoon she was holding and took the papers from him. Reading the words "Divorce Agreement," she shook her head in disbelief. “Milton, what is this? This must be a joke, right? We can’t g
Milton carried Olivia into the house, her hand wrapped around his shoulder. Getting into the house, he was expecting to see Charlotte in the house. He was waiting for her to come out and perhaps plead with him not to divorce.“I heard my elder sister is married to you,” Oliva muttered, her gaze focused on him. “Why don’t I see her anywhere?”He set her on the couch. “I already offered her the divorce papers, that Vixen has no place here after what she did to you.”A pitiful look appeared on Olivia’s face. “It’s all my fault that you had to divorce Charlotte. If I didn’t wake up, you both would still be together. If I had died like she wanted me to, this wouldn’t have happened…”“Pull yourself together Olivia. This has nothing to do with you, she got what she deserved…”“But…”“No buts.” He chimed in. “Forget about her. I will check if she is still home and if she is, I will make her sign the papers.”Olivia nodded. “What do you want to eat? I will ask the maids to make it for you.”“
