Chapter 10

“Please siz, you have to do it for the company’s sake, remember this is the only option you have got for now. Cheer up”. Ann convinced her.

Alicia smiled, “Alright am going to try one last time”

Josh was now sitting alone, Alicia went and sat beside him. He gave her the opportunity, at least to hear her out. He knew that the pride Alicia had would not allow her to stood too low if it was not a burning issue.

“Yes, Miss Wilson, what is burning you that you can’t wait until we are done with the event? As you can see, I am a busy man now and I don’t have time for leisure. But what do you need from a nobody like me anyway?” Josh asked her boldly.

Alicia was already fuming and wished she could stand up and slap him on the face.

“Be fast miss, the break is almost over and I will be expected to stand on that podium and announce the winner. You didn’t come here to just stare at me, did you?” Josh asked with sarcasm.

“Mmmm… I…I…. am sorry for all that I have wronged you in the past. This is sincerely from my heart. I know you can’t believe me but I mean it. We should not be enemies because we will be partners soon. Can you guarantee me that you are going to make me the winner at least for all the favor I did to you in the past?” Alicia finally said.

Josh laughed sarcastically. “Which favor? if I may ask. You call humiliation and divorce a favor!”

He knew earlier that the pride that Alicia has cannot allow her to come and beg him for forgiveness for no reason. Alicia kept quite feeling embarrassed. She still couldn’t imagine how tables have turned all over sudden. She was now begging the person that she used to look down on.

“You must be acting on a movie set called “a ridiculous Ex -wife “” Josh continued to mock her.

“I would honestly advice you to wait for the selection moment. This is called corruption and I am not that stupid. I will only choose the genuine winner. If you are the one, well and good. But if you are not the one, then it is not my fault but entirely yours for being too weak.  The best contract will be chosen on merit so if you are lucky to be the one, good for you but if not, you can wait for another chance.”

He hesitated but there was more to come.

“Keep in mind that this contract is for 5 years. I hope that you will be patient enough to wait until that time.  I am always fair and I don’t mixed business with personal life.” Josh advised her.

Then Alicia thought of something else that can work. Men will never resist her charm of a sexy body and this was her only last resort.

She cleared her voice and cheekily caressed his hands.” Why don’t we meet alone in the room upstairs? I would like to show you something. We still have 20 minutes “she said coquettishly.

“Are you seducing me, Miss Wilson? Did you ever want to sleep with me when you had the chance? I was dirty and you sneered at my sight. Now that I am wearing a clean suit, you think that I have changed? Your contract have been cancelled. Stand up and leave before I call the security on you. Your sight only disgust me” His eyes were raging with fire that Alicia shivered.

He could not hold the mockery anymore so she left without any further words with Josh.

“From your looks, it seems everything didn’t go well, dear. Can you relax and tell us what happened?” Nick asked.

“I feel like crushing that useless Josh. Imagine he told me on my face that am acting and even laughed at me.” Alicia was already annoyed with tears on her eyes.

“Don’t worry baby, if they are fair enough, you will get the contract being that your company can’t match others” Nick tried to cheer her up but she was the only one who knew what actually happened. Josh canceled her contract arrogantly. How could she tell Nick? He will be disappointed in her. This could ruin their relationship but she was not ready for a heartbreak.

“He is right my sister” Ann seconded him

Alicia hugged Nick and they all sat down waiting hopefully for Wilson Corporation to win the contract but only she knew what was to come. She had messed up big time.

Everybody was quiet waiting for the best contract to be announced. It didn’t take long before Josh was seen walking with his head held up high towards the podium. From all indications, he was ready to announce the winner of the contract.

“My dear ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the last session of this event. I thank all of you for your cooperation and patience. It means a lot to me and my entire team. On behalf of Mr. James, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate in advance the winner of the contract”

Alicia knew on her mind that she had messed up and can’t win. She was just waiting for the event to end so that she can go home and rest.

Nick and Ann were really worried of losing but they noticed that Alicia was not bothered anymore. “Why are you now relaxed dear” Nick asked her. “

There is no need of stressing myself with what has already been decided. I know very well that Josh won’t consider my contract.

Josh continued with his speech. “For the contest we have 5 companies but only one will win the contract and the winner of the contract this season is……Williams Corporation!”

“For the other companies that didn’t win, I want you to know that your contracts were also good but this was a tight competition and we had to select the very best amongst you. Don’t give up, keep checking for other future opportunities with us. I wish all of you a good night.” Josh finally finished.

People were clapping and congratulating the winner except Alicia Nick and Ann who felt like the process was not fare.

Nick and Ann were really disappointed, they had nothing more to say to Alicia.
