Chapter 4

“You jerk. let go of my son. I will kill you this moment “Rachel shouted as she slapped him on the back.

“Stay back from me, I don’t want to lay my hands on a woman. You think that I am stupid. You want me to touch you so that you can call the police on me. You are not going to get me this time round. I am not the weak Josh that you used to beat, insult and manipulate right and left. I have decided to change and I will deal with the two of you if you don’t get out of my way “He laughed sarcastically.

His aura had turned dangerous and violent the moment he signed the divorce papers.

“I want to pick up my things and leave. Do not stop me. I am warning the two of you “He said as he passed them and proceeded upstairs to the master bedroom. He tried to open the door but it was locked, he tried twisting the knob almost three times but it didn’t give way

“Why are you locking the room? I have the right to pick up my things. Can you people open this door before I get really angry “he was already having a headache having to deal with this family. He just wanted to pick up one important thing before leaving.

Then he heard the sound of heels walking on the floor before a familiar voice rang through the room” I locked the door because I didn’t want you to come back here and steal what doesn’t belong to you. Just as I had guessed you are still hanging around.”

Oh…. great. Now he was the one who was the thief when in reality, they were the one who stole his company from him but he hasn’t even called them names.

He swore silently that one day, Alicia will live to regret her words. He will do whatever he can in his power to excel against all the odds in his life. It didn’t matter what it will take as long as he will get his revenge on this family. They showed him dust.

“Alicia, what is wrong with you? can you be a little considerate? I have given you what you wanted and now you are rid of me. You can go and get married to Nick Ember. I have released you. Just let me get my things and I will be out of your life forever and I hope to God that you will never regret letting go   of our marriage.

“You…..regret …never .  Nick is the best man for me. I don’t know why I wasted my three years being stuck with a dickhead like you. I will never in a million times regret ever letting go of this stupid marriage. The trash that you are seeking is not in my room” Alicia added harshly while avoiding his eyes.

She had sneaked out of the celebration just to come and see what Josh was up to. She also needed to pick up his mother and brother. she was starting to get worried why they were yet to arrive.

“You are too late my ex brother in law . look at the yard. Your dirty clothes just burnt themselves. I am so sorry for your loss and I doubt if you will even get the money to replace them. My sister was lenient on  you.”

When he turned and glanced outside, there was smoke coming from the yard. He hurriedly rushed to the place only to find that everything had been burned to ashes. He panicked but his interest was on one thing. The rest, he could  care less about them.

He kept on murmuring “I should not lose the ring “

When he was young, his adoptive parents told him to keep the ring safe, for it will one day help him trace his family. They had said that when they adopted him, the orphanage said that his parents brought him with the ring.

His eyes were wondering from side to side. The other people didn’t understand what he was looking for until he knelt down and picked up something.

He sighed with a relief as a tear appeared on his eyes.

By the grace of God, it didn’t burn. He wiped it with his shirt and then carefully placed it back on his finger. At that moment, he realized that he had forgotten to take off his wedding ring.

He slowly removed it and threw it in the burning fire as he muttered “I don’t need this anymore .It just disgust me.  Let it burn in hell for all I care.”

He then turned his back to leave but then Alicia called him back. “You don’t deserve to leave here with anything. Everything that you have on you, I was the one who bought it with my own money. Strip “She ordered.

The man looked at her coldly as he removed his shirt, trousers and then his shoes as the three watched. Douglas took the clothes and threw them in the fire.

Josh hugged his body. Although there was fire burning nearby, he felt colder than never before. His body was practically trembling. He has never been humiliated this way in his life and it had to come from the only woman that he trusted and gave everything that he had in order for her to be happy in life.

Then all of a sudden, his phone rang. It was the only one thing that the three had forgotten about and he was clutching it so hard in his hands that his knuckles hurt.

The others glanced at him with confusion and surprise on their faces.

Josh reached for his phone. He looked at the caller ID and it was a number that he didn’t recognize. Given the events that he had gone through during the day, he didn’t have any patience. So, he quickly picked up the call.

“Hello…who am I talking to?” he asked expecting him to be one of the scammers. In that case, he was ready for him and he was going to pour all his frustration on him.

But instead, the man on the other side of the phone mentioned his full names.

“Are you Josh Brando?” the unfamiliar voice asked and he became alert. He sounded somehow serious and he started to wonder what he wanted.

“Yes…this is him. How may I help you?” he continued to converse with the man.
