Chapter 1

Finally, the tall building came into view. Josh grinned with excitement as he walked in to the entrance with long strides.

He could see Ann at the reception looking at him with impatience but he didn’t mind. He was a very happy man and he wasn’t going to allow anything to spoil his good moods.

His wife, Alicia had managed to build this company from the ground to be one of the most successful company in the country. He wanted to support her with love.

 He had come to attend an important event in her honor celebrating the three years that the company has been operational under Alicia’s leadership.

“I will go inside and sit on the VIP seat preserved for me by my wife.” he thought silently as he headed inside.

“Hey…. Josh, you are not allowed to go inside. Only the invited people are supposed to proceed to the banquet hall. Kindly give me your invitation card?” Ann said with a sneer on her face.

“What do you mean? I don’t need any invitation. The CEO is my wife and I have every right to be here more than even you. This company is mine as much as it is hers.” He knew that they loathed him for his poor background but he never cared as long as Alicia stood by his side.

Every time he came to the company, he could see the employees murmuring behind his back.

At that moment he saw Alicia. She was beautiful as always. Dressed in a red floral dress, she commanded authority. Elegantly, she walked to the reception area and looked at Josh.

“Ha…. Ha…. Ha… do you even have the idea of what kind of people that I have invited in to the party? The top wealthy members of the business community will all be here. You aren’t qualified to stand in their presence and that was why you have always been a bad luck to me. You don’t need to go and spoil my image by going there looking like a beggar. Your clothes are useless and cheap. You are looking disheveled and unkept “she continued to look down on him.

Josh was confused with her sudden outburst. He almost didn’t recognize his wife.

“Alicia, honey …how can you say that I am embarrassing you?”

Off course, he wore cheap clothes because he did not want to spend more of the money that Alicia made. He thought that it was best for his wife to get established financially before they could enjoy a good life together. He believed in being a miser in order to achieve the end goal.

Then Ann looked at the banquet of flowers that he was carrying in his hands sarcastically.

“Alicia won’t be needing the flowers. She has already received plenty of handpicked roses imported from overseas. Do you think that she deserves to receive such kinds of cheap nonsense? I will help her dispose them because the mere sight of them irritates me…...Gosh. where did Alicia get you from? You should go back and disappear in to the hole that you came from.” she sneered again  and snatched the red roses from his hands before dumping them in to the dustbin.

“Hey, those were special gift from me” he cried out helplessly.

“Yes… those flowers are disgusting.  what kind of a husband are you to carry those crap in to my office? Don’t you know what kind of class I belong to? You are a loser who just annoys me. I can’t stand looking at your face”

“Honey, you used to like them before. But it is okay, I will go and get you another one.  Whatever it is that has pissed you off like this, please stop being angry. we can sit down and talk like adults”

 The man calmed down his nerves and tried to reason out with his wife.

Alicia looked at him with impatience and snapped. “I am not interested in any conversation that you think that we should have. Why can’t you see that this marriage was already over long time ago? I have just been keeping a show for you to realize   it and leave but you are just so dumb. I am really tired of being tied to you “

“What are you saying?” Josh asked still trying to digest the turn of events.

She went behind the desk and brought out an envelope.

“Sign this divorce papers and leave my life. I deserve someone better than you “Alicia stated coldly.

With confusion, Josh walked closer to the desk to scan the document. His eyes widened in surprise. He couldn’t believe that Alicia was giving him the divorce paper in the office. And every employee was there to witness their divorce

Why didn’t she give them to him in the house somewhere private? 

Up to that moment, he couldn’t believe that this was the surprise that Alicia said that she had for him when she invited him to come to the party.

 This was the real party, to divorce him and humiliate him Infront of her staff.

 In his silly mind, he had thought that finally she was ready to introduce him to the world as her husband. He didn’t know most of her business associates neither did they ever appeared on important occasions together as a couple.

Alicia would always find an excuse to go alone and he didn’t want to insist for the fear of causing trouble for the business.

The commotion attracted other employees and he could see them coming closer so that they could start spreading rumors about him. It hurt him so much to see himself on social media accounts being ridiculed for marrying the woman that he loved.

 He was tired of being the topic of discussion. If it wasn’t the dirty husband or the beggar then he was a gold-digging bastard. All sorts of bad things have been written about him but he just dismissed them on the outside while in the inside they were tearing his heart apart.

He was tired of being disrespected that way by the people who he contributed to them being employed by the company.
