Chapter 2

 The big cars that they were driving were all courtesy of him and Alicia snatched all the glory and threw him out of the bus.

He never cared but today things were different.

 He was deeply hurt. After all that he had done for Alicia, he never imagined that this will be the way that she will pay him off. By giving him divorce papers on the day that they were both supposed to celebrate the success of their company

When they met, Alicia was broke and her family couldn’t even afford a meal to eat. He decided to sell the house that his late adoptive family left him in order for Alicia to start the business that he believed will help them in the future.

 He even gave her the idea to start a tech company. He supported her in all the ways that he could for her to shine in the limelight. Even though her family wasn’t nice to him, he still believed that she was different.

“Let us discuss this in private. I still have my dignity to keep “He said to Alicia who seemed to be breathing fire.

“Who do you think that you are to command me around? I don’t have much time to be bothered by you. I am preparing to meet the important guests. You will only be wasting my time and that was why I tasked Ann with this job. So please you will be making my work easy if you could take this document and be done with it “

Before Alicia could finish speaking, Josh sprinted in to the CEO office and they both followed him inside.

Ann was yelling “come back here you good for nothing husband. Aren’t you tired of humiliating our CEO? She should be with someone who is more worthy of her elegance yet you still linger here like a pest. Why don’t you disappear once and for all? Oh …...I wish to never see your face around here anymore. “

Josh didn’t want to listen to her ranting anymore. Instead, he went ahead and opened the door.

Ann was Alicia’s sister and assistant at work. The two of them knew the sacrifices that he made to the company and yet she didn’t miss a single chance to insult him.

“Josh, if you want war then that is what I will give you. Ann, kindly call the security. I would like to see if he will still refuse to sign after they beat him up” Alicia said coldly as she sat on her chair and swung around sarcastically.

When did she change this fast? Josh whispered more to himself.

 He couldn’t believe that the loving and caring woman suddenly turned in to a cold and unfeeling bitch. Did he miss something? He could understand Ann because they have wanted him out of the family for as long as he could remember.

“Alicia, it is me? Don’t you think that I deserve an explanation why you want to divorce me?  when you told me yesterday that you have something to tell me, I didn’t think that it could be this.” Josh was really trying to control his emotions, believing that somehow what has happened was just in his imagination.

“What did you expect from me? Have you ever given me anything good? All that I have ever received from you is humiliation all over. Even at this point, you have refused to sign the divorce papers. You want to announce to the world how heartless I am when everyone knows that the two of us never belonged together “she said coldly.

“Alicia honey…...I am your husband and I love you. we have been through a lot in the past. I might not come from a rich family back ground but I know that we can make it work with patience. Don’t be hasty in your decision” he said.

“I have managed to build this company to be one of the most successful one single handedly while you sit back at home and leech on me. You eat my food, drink my drinks and spend my money when you know completely nothing about what I go through every day to cater for you.”

“I do the dishes and clean the house. Alicia, I even wash all of the family members clothes. I cook the food that you eat after coming back from work.  I wanted to support you from the outside so that when the time is right, I can help you manage the company. Does that not count?

“Well... it doesn’t matter, everyone can do the house chores. You chose to do it yourself instead of looking for work like other real men does. I didn’t ask you to do it. As for your financial contribution to the company, I believe that I have repaid you for the things that I have done for you this past 3 years, so I do not owe you anything. please if you don’t mind, sign the divorce papers. The first guest is soon arriving and I don’t want my mood to be bad when I welcome him.”

His head ached, thinking that he gave the only thing that he had in this life to make her successful. He believed in this marriage but at this point, there was nothing that he could do. she despised him. What was the need of humiliating himself any further? he was defeated like a stupid little bastard.

While he was still thinking in a daze, the men in uniform arrived ready for actions. He looked at them and calmly said “with due respect, I haven’t committed any crime here. You have no right to attack me in any way . If anyone of you touches me, I will sue the company and all of you. Your CEO knows what that means for this company “

Alicia understood him well. He was a bastard for trying to undermine her authority but she didn’t want to involved herself with the ex-husband verses the ex-wife scandals. The company could suffer and she wasn’t going to allow any of that.

All that she needed was for the idiot to sign the papers.

“It is okay, you guys should hold on” Alicia directed with a smug smile on her face.

He never even realized how calculating she had become until that moment. But all that was now in the past because he was done with this marriage.

“Ann, please hand me the divorce papers. I guess we have nothing more to discuss on here” Josh suddenly said decisively.

“How stupid? I never liked you as my brother-in-law.” Ann said disgustedly as she threw the papers on his face.

 He quietly took a pen on the table and signed his name. Then he straightened his shirt and walked out of the office without opening his mouth to talk. He was tired of defending himself.
