Chapter 5

Catalina seemed to notice the confusion in Myles' eyes. "Since you're here for an interview, you should know that we're hiring a driver for the Divine King.

"I won't even comment on your driving skills for now, but your unkempt appearance could leave a bad impression on the Divine King. So, you've been disqualified."

Driver?

Myles suddenly realized what was going on. He recalled what the receptionist had said; they had mistaken him for someone applying for the driver position.

He glanced down at his attire—a faded T-shirt and flip-flops. He did look a bit out of place.

He was about to explain when a woman who seemed to be a secretary rushed in, clearly flustered.

"Ms. Schmidt, something terrible happened! Someone took our newly developed drug, and now, there's been an incident. The patient's family is causing a scene downstairs," the secretary reported anxiously.

"What? Let's go check it out immediately!"

Catalina's face turned pale with shock, and she hurried out with the secretary. Meanwhile, Myles was left behind, completely ignored.

Myles did not mind. After all, Catalina did not know his true identity.

Nevertheless, he followed them outside. This was still his company, and he could not just stand by.

The three of them quickly reached the ground floor, where a crowd had already gathered. They were mostly company employees.

In the middle of the crowd, a young girl lay unconscious on a stretcher. Her mother was crying uncontrollably over her while a man in a suit, wearing a luxury watch and gold-rimmed glasses, stood beside them.

He looked every bit the successful professional, but he was now filled with anger and worry.

"You people must save my daughter, or I won't let this slide!" the man shouted, his voice full of fury.

Even though he was standing at Divine King Group, the man was so consumed by his daughter's condition that fear did not cross his mind.

An elderly man in a white coat was examining the girl's pulse. He was the chief alchemist of Divine King Group and was renowned across all of Kiridan for his medical expertise.

However, he was now drenched in sweat because the girl's condition was dire. She was barely breathing, and her life was hanging by a thread. It seemed she could pass away at any moment.

"Jeffrey, how is she?" Catalina asked worriedly.

"The situation is dire. I'll do my best, but I can't promise anything," Jeffrey Brown said.

The young girl's father, Colton Goldberg, warned, "I'm telling you, you'd better save my daughter. If anything happens to her, I won't let you off!"

"Please rest assured, we'll do everything we can to save her," Catalina quickly tried to reassure him, though her heart was filled with anxiety.

She knew Jeffrey was not very confident right now. If the girl could not be saved, it would have severe repercussions for the company's reputation, not to mention the loss of a young life.

Moreover, she recognized the man as Colton, the son of the leader of the Goldberg Gang, which was the largest underground organization in Jonesburg.

If the girl died, there would undoubtedly be a relentless retaliation from the gang, with unimaginable consequences.

Jeffrey was aware of the gravity of the situation. He hurriedly asked for silver needles and picked one up, preparing to insert it into an acupoint below the girl's navel.

"I'd advise against that. If you insert that needle, she'll likely die," Myles cautioned.

Jeffrey looked up. Seeing a stranger, he immediately grew furious. "Who are you? How dare you question my medical expertise?"

"I told you to leave! Why are you still here? I'm warning you, if you interfere with Jeffrey's treatment, there'll be consequences!" Catalina scolded sharply.

"I'm just trying to help," Myles said calmly.

"You're just here to apply for the driver position. What right do you have to question Jeffrey? Do you even know anything about medicine?" Catalina retorted.

The crowd murmured in disbelief. For a mere driver applicant to challenge a renowned medical expert was outrageous.

"Kid, if you mess things up, I won't be so forgiving!" Colton shouted angrily. Interrupting at such a critical moment could mean endangering his daughter's life, so his anger was justified.

"Jeffrey, ignore him and proceed with the treatment," Catalina instructed.

Myles shook his head and smiled bitterly. Why on earth would these people not listen to him?

By this time, Jeffrey had already inserted the first needle into the girl's acupoint that was below her navel and was about to insert a second.

"Stop! If you insert another needle, she'll die for sure," Myles warned again.

"Shut up!" Colton roared.

Jeffrey glared at Myles, clearly irritated.

"Security, get him out of here!" Catalina could no longer tolerate Myles' interference. Delaying treatment was akin to causing harm, something she absolutely could not allow.

Two nearby security guards immediately marched over, ready to drag Myles away.

Just then, Myles raised three fingers.

"Three!

"Two!"

Myles began counting down, which made everyone think he was out of his mind.

"One!"

As the guards were about to seize him, Myles reached the final count. At that exact moment, the young girl's eyes suddenly flew open.

She started coughing violently, spewing a large mouthful of black blood. Her body was convulsing as she foamed at the mouth.

Her pupils dilated rapidly, creating a terrifying sight.

The sudden turn of events shocked everyone. The girl's mother broke down, wailing hysterically, almost fainting from distress.

"Jeffrey, is this normal?" Colton asked urgently, his voice filled with panic.

Catalina also looked at Jeffrey, her eyes full of hope.

Jeffrey did not respond immediately. He quickly examined the young girl, but soon, beads of cold sweat appeared on his forehead.

"I'm really sorry, but it looks like the little girl won't make it."

"What?!"

Colton grabbed Jeffrey by the collar and snarled, "I don't care what you have to do—you must save my daughter! If she dies, I'll make sure you all go down with her!"

"Sir, please calm down. We'll figure something out," Catalina tried to reassure him.

"Why are you just standing there? Do something to save her!" Colton shouted, shoving Jeffrey away.

Jeffrey stood there helplessly. The girl's condition had completely slipped out of his control, and he was at a loss for what to do.

"Jeffrey, please think of something!" Catalina pleaded as she wiped the sweat from her brow.

If the girl could not be saved, the new product would be doomed. Not to mention, the responsibility for the girl's life would weigh heavily on her as the CEO.

"You murderer! Give me back my daughter!" Seeing his daughter on the brink of death, Colton exploded in rage. He raised his hand to strike Catalina across the face.

Catalina closed her eyes, not making any attempt to dodge. As the CEO, she felt accountable for this. If the grieving father wanted to hit or curse her, she believed she deserved it.

She braced herself for the blow, but it never came. When she opened her eyes, she saw that Colton's hand was firmly caught by a larger hand—it was Myles.

Colton roared in anger, "Let go, kid, or I'll hit you too!"

Catalina intervened, saying, "Let him go. Just let him hit me."

Myles gave a slight smile and said, "No matter the reason, you shouldn't resort to violence, especially now when saving a life is the most important."

"Even Jeffrey can't help her. How can you save her? I want her to pay for my daughter's life!" Colton shouted, pointing angrily at Catalina.

"Just because Jeffrey can't do it doesn't mean I can't. If you don't want your daughter to die, then stop this commotion. If we delay any longer, even the greatest doctors won't be able to save her," Myles said firmly.

"You're saying you can save my daughter?" Colton asked, his face filled with desperate hope.

"Sir, don't listen to his nonsense. He's just a driver," Catalina snapped, then turned to Myles. "This isn't your place to speak. If you keep causing trouble, don't blame me for what happens next!"

"I'm not causing trouble—I can really save her," Myles insisted.

Jeffrey scoffed. "I admit my skills might be lacking, but if I can't heal her, how can a young nobody like you manage? You're not even a doctor. Just leave and stop making things worse!"
