Chapter 6

"How do you know I can't do it if I don't give it a try? Miracles might happen," Myles said, his words carrying a deeper meaning.

"Alright, you save my daughter, then." Colton had decided.

Desperate times called for desperate measures. With no other options left, Colton was willing to take the chance, even if it was one in a million.

"No, I disagree. He's just a driver, not even one of our employees. Plus, he has no qualifications to practice medicine," Catalina quickly interjected, trying to stop him.

She turned to Myles and whispered, "This isn't your responsibility. Don't get yourself into trouble. Please leave."

She appreciated Myles stepping in for her, but she did not want to drag him into this mess.

Jeffrey added, "The little girl's condition is beyond hope. Even if my mentor himself were here, he wouldn't be able to save her."

Colton hesitated. Catalina had a point. If the renowned Jeffrey Brown could not do anything, how could an unqualified young man stand a chance?

"If the only alternative is waiting for her to die, why not let me try?" Myles insisted.

"Fine, you do it!" Colton decided it was worth trying rather than just giving up.

Myles knelt down. He extended a finger and gently pressed it against the girl's chest.

"This is ridiculous! I've practiced medicine for half my life, and I've never seen anything like this," Jeffrey fumed.

"You've seen too little. There's much you don't know, and your skills could use some improvement," Myles replied.

"Jeffrey Brown is a renowned healer! He's one of the best in all of Kiridan. For this guy to question Jeffrey is just outrageous!"

"He's just trying to show off."

The crowd erupted in anger, condemning Myles' actions.

Catalina was also upset. She was initially worried that Myles would get himself into trouble, but now, she felt he was only bringing it upon himself.

"Get away from my daughter! Don't touch her!" The girl's mother shouted. She grew furious after hearing the crowd's remarks. She reached out to push Myles away.

At that exact moment, the little girl suddenly stopped convulsing, and her dilated pupils gradually returned to normal.

Seeing this, the girl's mother anxiously called her by her nickname.

"Mommy, I'm hungry," the little girl said suddenly while blinking her beautiful eyes.

"She's alive!"

"He really brought the girl back to life—it's unbelievable!"

"A miracle—this is truly a miracle!"

Everyone was in shock, especially Jeffrey and Catalina, who could hardly believe their eyes.

"Yara, you scared me to death!" The little girl's mother cried tears of joy, hugging her daughter tightly as she wept loudly.

Meanwhile, Colton was overwhelmed with excitement. He danced around before grabbing Myles' hand. "You're a lifesaver! Thank you for saving my daughter. From now on, you're a great benefactor to our family. If there's ever anything you need from me, just say the word."

"It was nothing, really. No need to thank me," Myles replied.

Colton then turned to Jeffrey and said, "Jeffrey, you're known as a miracle doctor, but your skills are far inferior to this young man's."

Jeffrey felt a deep sense of shame and lowered his head to Myles. "I'm sorry I didn't recognize your abilities earlier. Please forgive my rudeness, doctor."

"Don't worry about it. I didn't take it to heart," Myles responded. He was somewhat familiar with Jeffrey.

Myles knew he was skilled in medicine and possessed good morals, often offering free medical services.

Jeffrey gave a sheepish smile and said, "Doctor, I have one more request. I hope you'll consider it."

Myles looked puzzled.

Suddenly, Jeffrey did something that stunned everyone. He bent his knees and knelt before Myles.

"What are you doing? Get up," Myles said.

Catalina quickly added, "Jeffrey, there's no need to go to such lengths even if you're apologizing. Please stand up."

However, Jeffrey remained kneeling, sincerely pleading, "Please accept me as your apprentice, doctor."

Catalina's mouth dropped open in surprise, and everyone else was equally astonished. Jeffrey was a renowned miracle doctor in his 70s, but now, he was kneeling before a young man in his 20s and asking to be his apprentice.

It was something no one would believe without seeing it firsthand.

"I'm not planning to take on apprentices. Stand up. If I have time, I can give you some guidance," Myles said.

"Thank you, doctor."

Jeffrey quickly expressed his gratitude. Though he was slightly disappointed Myles did not accept him as his apprentice, he was still thrilled at the offer of guidance.

The little girl's mother then lowered her head to Myles humbly and said, "I was disrespectful earlier. Please forgive me, kind sir."

"You were just worried about your child. I understand," Myles replied.

"Sir, we'll host a banquet tonight at the Jonesburg Hotel to thank you. Please grace us with your presence. I'd also like to introduce you to a very important person," the little girl's mother, Winona Silvers, said.

Myles instinctively wanted to decline, but before he could, Catalina accepted the invitation on his behalf.

"I accept on his behalf. We'll be there on time," Catalina stated confidently.

"Ms. Schmidt, you're overstepping your bounds," Myles said, slightly displeased.

Previously, Luna often made decisions for him, but she was his wife, so he let it slide. Catalina, however, was merely his subordinate. Her making decisions for him felt like crossing a line.

"I'm your boss. How am I overstepping?" Catalina countered.

"You're my boss?" Myles chuckled in disbelief.

"Aren't you here to apply for the driver position? I've accepted you, so now, you're my employee. I'll have my assistant take you to complete the onboarding process," Catalina declared decisively.

Myles felt speechless but did not object. After all, standing out would bring nothing but mishaps.

His identity as the Divine King had long drawn unwanted attention. Recently, he had even noticed a mysterious force working against his Divine King Group from the shadows.

Moreover, he still needed to investigate his mother's killer. Operating from the background provided advantages, including discretion and safety.

Catalina called Myles into her office and sat on the couch.

Dressed in a short skirt, she inadvertently revealed a hint of pink, which caught Myles' eye. Although he knew he should not look, he could not resist glancing for a couple of seconds longer.

Catalina noticed Myles' reaction and quickly realized what had happened. Her face flushed bright red, all the way to her ears.

"Your name is Myles Storey, right? From now on, you'll be the exclusive driver for the Divine King. However, the Divine King is elusive and rarely needs a driver, so I'll assign you an additional job," Catalina said.

"What job?" Myles asked, curious.

"Be my boyfriend," Catalina said, catching him completely off guard.

Myles was stunned. Catalina was stunningly beautiful. She did not seem like someone who lacked male attention.

Why would she choose Myles? Could it be because of his good looks?
