Chapter 7

Catalina realized Myles had misunderstood and quickly clarified, "It's not for real. I just need you to be my decoy."

"What do you mean?" Myles asked, still a bit confused.

Catalina explained, "Let me be clear. The Divine King is lusting after me and wants to take me for himself. I can't directly reject him, so I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend to make him back off."

"The Divine King is after you? Who told you that?" Myles asked, feeling perplexed.

Catalina said angrily, "My father told me. Just now, my father called and told me to serve the Divine King. It's obvious it's the Divine King's idea, but I'll never bow to his oppressive demands."

Myles finally understood—Maddox had not explained things properly, leading Catalina to a big misunderstanding.

"The Divine King is incredibly wealthy and powerful. Countless women want to marry him. If the Divine King is interested in you, wouldn't that be a good thing? Why are you so resistant?"

"Yes, you're right. The Divine King is wealthy and powerful, but I'm still young. I've never even had a boyfriend. How could I willingly submit myself to an old man in his 60s?" Catalina replied.

"Who told you the Divine King is an old man?" Myles asked, completely baffled. "Where did you get that idea?"

Catalina replied, "I'm just guessing. Think about it—the Divine King is extremely talented, not only in business but also in combat. That kind of prowess takes years to develop. Saying he's in his 70s is a conservative estimate; he could very well be 70 or 80, old enough to be my grandfather.

"I don't need to depend on any man, not even the Divine King. I'm not interested."

Seeing Myles remain silent, Catalina assumed he was reluctant, so she added, "This is your job, so I won't make you do it for free. I'll pay you separately for this—an extra 10,000 a month. If that's not enough, I can increase it."

"No need. I accept," Myles said.

The amount of money did not matter, and being a decoy was even less of an issue. Not to mention, it was amusing to think he would be playing the decoy to fend off himself.

"It's getting late. Let's head to the Jonesburg Hotel for the banquet. Here are the car keys. Go start the car," Catalina said, handing Myles a set of keys.

Myles took the keys and left. Shortly after, Catalina called in her assistant.

"Look into Myles Storey and find out who he is. His medical skills are even better than Jeffrey's, yet he's working as a driver. It's very odd."

"Ms. Schmidt, are you suspecting he's with that group?" the assistant asked.

"It's highly possible, so we need to get to the bottom of it," Catalina said with a serious expression.

"Ms. Schmidt, if you suspect he's one of them, why keep him around?" the assistant asked, puzzled.

"If he's part of that group, keeping him close will help us uncover their plans. Of course, it's just speculation for now. If he's not involved, that would be even better," Catalina replied.

"Understood," the assistant acknowledged the order and left the office.

Meanwhile, Luna and her group had arrived at Divine King Group earlier. Luna had originally planned to meet the Divine King in person and present her gift, but she was told that the Divine King was not there.

Aren, who hoped to apply for the driver position, was turned away because of his bleached hair. His appearance did not meet the image requirements.

Hence, they all left disappointed.

Nonetheless, the still-determined Aren went to a salon to dye his hair back. He then returned alone to the Divine King Group.

Just as he parked in the garage, Aren received a call from Parker. "What? Divine King Group has already hired a driver? What?! The new driver is Myles?!"

Upon hearing the news, Aren was so furious that he almost smashed his phone. At that moment, Myles arrived to get the car.

Seeing him, Aren's anger flared.

"Myles Storey, stop right there!" Aren shouted, storming over to him. "Did you get the job as the Divine King's driver?"

"Yes, I did," Myles replied calmly.

"Do you have any idea how much effort I put into getting that job? You went behind my back and stole it without saying a word! This is outrageous. I'm ordering you right now—quit immediately!"

Back when Myles lived with the Wright family, he was quite reserved. He also often tolerated being mistreated for Luna's sake.

Over time, the Wright family came to see him as a pushover and would boss him around constantly. Even though Myles had stood up to Aren once before, Aren still had not realized that Myles had changed.

"Who do you think you are to order me around?" Myles scoffed before turning to leave.

"Stop right there! How dare you defy me? You've got some nerve!" Aren shouted. He grabbed Myles' shoulder with one hand and clenched his other into a fist, aiming for Myles' head.

Myles swiftly dodged the punch, then swung his arm and slapped Aren hard.

With a loud smack, Aren was sent flying. He crashed to the ground and spat out two bloody teeth.

"How fucking dare you?!" Aren roared in anger.

Myles then glared at Aren, displaying a chilling demeanor that sent shivers down Aren's spine. "Watch your mouth. If you do this again, I'll end you!"

Aren had been ready to curse him some more, but the intense threat left him trembling. He quickly swallowed his words.

Catalina, who had come down after work, witnessed the scene.

Seeing her as his savior, Aren quickly ran over. "Ms. Schmidt, hello, my name is Aren Wright. My sister is Luna Wright, the owner of Luna Corporation. I'm here to apply for the driver position."

"We've already hired a driver. You should leave," Catalina responded.

"I know, and the driver you hired is this guy!" Aren pointed at Myles. "Ms. Schmidt, let me tell you, this guy is my former brother-in-law. I know him very well. He's lazy, unmotivated, and has a violent streak. Just look at what he did to my face!

"That's not all. He's also morally corrupt. He steals women's underwear, peeks at them while they shower, and even regularly hires prostitutes. Letting someone like him into Divine King Group would tarnish your company's reputation."

Catalina turned to Myles and asked, "Is this true?"

"Of course not. I hit him because he deserved it. There's surveillance footage here. If you don't believe me, you can check it," Myles explained.

Aren instantly panicked, his eyes darting around nervously.

Catalina saw his reaction and immediately understood.

"With a brother like you, I doubt your sister is much better. I remember Luna Corporation has some business with my family. Go back and tell your sister that the cooperation is canceled."

"What?!" Aren was stunned. Catalina was not only the CEO of Divine King Group but also the heiress of the Schmidt family.

Schmidt Corporation, part of the Schmidt family, was the second-largest enterprise in Jonesburg after Divine King Group and Luna Corporation's biggest client.

If their partnership was canceled, it would be a severe blow to Luna's business.

Aren returned home, crestfallen. Ingrid hurried over after seeing his swollen face and asked, "Aren, what happened to you?"

"Mom, it was that bastard, Myles. He stole my job, and when I confronted him, he beat me up."

Luna stepped forward and asked, "Myles stole your job and hit you? How's that possible?"

"Why not? Parker arranged the driver position for me, but Myles bad-mouthed me in front of Ms. Schmidt, so my application was rejected.

"Lune, you have no idea how awful Myles really is. We were all fooled by him before. Not only did he take my job, but he also said a lot of bad things about you to Ms. Schmidt. She got so angry that she canceled all cooperation between your company and Schmidt Corporation."
