NIGHTMARE

Alpha Alcide stood in front of the mirror as he got dressed. Today, he was traveling for a conference talk with another major pack in the country. He would be gone for three weeks and for an unknown reason, he felt reluctant to go. He wore his shoes and just as he was about to stand, he heard a knock on his door

“Alpha, breakfast is ready,” The voice from behind the door said.

“I’m not hungry, how about Serafine? Has she had her breakfast?” Alpha Alcide replied as he walked towards his bed to take his accessories.

“She finished hers a while ago and she stepped out of the house not quite long,” The maid behind the door said

“Noted, I am leaving the pack for three weeks, take care of everything for me, and do not hesitate to call me if something goes wrong” Alpha Alcide who just stepped out of his door now, said while staring intently at the maid who kept her gaze to her feet.

“Ok Alpha” The maid added as she collected his suitcase from him.

Just as he was about to step out of the house, a voice stopped him

“Alpha Alcide,” the voice said, and Alcide turned back only to see his assistant walking towards him.

“What?” Alcide said as he stared at the man who was now standing in front of him.

“As regards your mother’s death that you asked us to look into, you were right, it was not just an accidental death, it was planned by someone” The young man added as he stared at Alpha Alcide.

The look on Alcide’s face turned grave as his eyes promised hell on its victim. He thought to himself ‘So, I was right all along? I knew my mum wouldn’t have gone to our rival’s pack all by herself. There is more to this, who could have instigated all these?’ He snapped out of his thoughts and he said commandingly

“I give you and your men three weeks to find out the truth, if after we are back from our trip, I don’t know who I’m to kill and rip their bones out, I’d do that to you instead, am I clear?” Alpha Alcide added seriously. He was damn serious about his words and he was not a man to joke around.

“Yes alpha” His assistant added as he felt a cold shiver run down his spine feeling the menacing aura coming from his Alpha.

Alpha Alcide turned back and left the house with his assistant trailing behind him.

The journey to the pack where the conference would be held was long. It would take them approximately two days to arrive at the pack by car. Alpha Alcide could have journeyed by plane but he chose a car instead.

While he was resting in the car, his thoughts could not help but wander to Serafine.

He remembered their first meeting which was just a day ago. How she came into his room and how she seemed a little scared of him. He bit his lower lip as he remembered her curves. ‘Damn, why am I thinking about her this much, she is nothing to me so I should not be having these thoughts about her’ he said to himself as he tried to get rid of her from his thoughts. Soon enough, he fell asleep.

And his sleep was different this time. Instead of having a nightmare about his rapist this time, his nightmare was about the suffering he went through at the hands of his father’s mistress, and soon enough, he found himself so deep into that abyss.

A young boy, barely nine was standing behind the door when he saw his mother and father arguing; his father was shouting aggressively at his mother while his mother was talking back at him too with tears in her eyes. Then suddenly, young Alcide heard a sharp sound. He looked back and saw his mother lying on the floor with her hands on her cheeks while his father was looking at her with hatred in his eyes.

“Sapphire is the mother of my child. She is nothing like you. She is so much better than you. So, have this in mind, she is going nowhere and if anyone is to leave, it would be you and your useless child. Sapphire bore me an intelligent son, a child that can become the future Alpha someday and all you could give me was a boy like a girl? A child that cowers at the slightest touch? Your son is incapable of becoming not even a beta talk-less alpha. So, you would treat her with respect am I clear? And if she complains about you one last time, I would throw you and your useless son into the dungeon and you both would rot there till your deaths” The Alpha and father of Alcide said while looking at Alcide’s mother with utter hatred in his eyes for her.

Young Alcide’s mother just stayed there looking so broken. Her once-loving husband who looked at her with so much care and love and who would stop at nothing to eliminate those who made her sad was now the one to bring tears to her eyes. The young man spat at her, turned his back, and left the room. Immediately after he left, young Alcide ran to his mother. Immediately his mother saw him, she hugged him dearly while shedding tears.

“It’s alright my dear, it will all be alright” Alcide’s mother added while still hugging him

“Mummy, why did daddy slap you? What did we do wrong?” Young Alcide added while still in his mother’s arms

“No, we did nothing wrong. Daddy did not mean any harm, he still loves us deeply” His mother added while more tears fell from her eyes.

Suddenly, the door opened and an older woman stepped in. Immediately his mother saw who was at the door, she held Alcide tighter while growling at the woman who had just entered. The said woman walked towards the bed, sat on it, and started laughing menacingly. The lady had crooked teeth with scary eyes that young Alcide could not help but cower in fear as he held his mother closer, burying his face into her chest to avoid seeing the other lady

“ Who is the loser now Brenda?” The lady sitting on the bed said while laughing at Brenda, Alcide’s mother stood up with hatred and anger evident in her eyes.

“I can’t believe I trusted you. I can’t believe I called you my friend” Brenda replied while glaring at the lady sitting on the bed

Suddenly, two bulky and scary men entered the room and walked toward Brenda and young Alcide.

“Take the child away from her,” The lady on the bed said while her laughter was long gone. She stared back at Brenda too with utter hate for her.

Immediately she said that the two men dragged young Alcide away from his mother. Alcide cried as he was being pulled out of his mother’s grasp forcefully with his mother holding on to his hand, not wanting to be separated from her son. Soon, Alcide was out of his mother’s hold and he was dragged out of the room forcefully despite his fervent tears.
