Serafine paved around her room thinking of what she could do to protect Lucian from Alcide. She got frustrated when she could not come up with an idea and she sat on her bed angrily. 

She was about yanking on her hair when she heard a knock on her door.

“Miss Serafine, you have guests” Serafine heard the voice of one of the maids from behind the door.

‘Guests? Serafine wondered within her as she was not expecting anyone. What was she kidding, she had no one talkless expecting anyone. Serafine went downstairs and then she saw a group of ladies sitting down on the couch. By their appearance, they looked like those women who had a say in the decisions of a pack in a country in movies. 

Serafine sat down on the spare couch left facing them. After a while,  when she saw that they were not attempting to introduce themselves or at least talk to her, she opened her mouth and said,

“And how may I help you?”. These five words caused an uproar in the room as the women started murmuring amongst themselves, giving Serafine a look of disdain. 

“What nonsense? Do you not know who we are?” one of the women finally summoned the courage to voice her complaints. 

Serafine stared at one of the maids assigned by the door and immediately, the maid walked up to her and whispered

“They are some of the wives of the elders of this pack Miss Serafine. Although not all of them are present, most are. And they also have a huge say when it comes to that matter of choosing a wife and Luna for this pack and the alpha”  Nodding her head in understanding, Serafine gestured for the maid to return to her position. She finally raised her eyes and stared at the women before her, particularly at their leader, the woman who spoke to her. Understanding that she was at fault for her negligence and ignorance, Serafine spoke to the woman with a look that showed she was sorry as she apologized

“Pardon me for my ignorance. Of course, I am not a proud Luna who disrespects important personalities of this pack. I acknowledge that I am in the wrong and so I say sorry”

After her apology, some of the woman’s face softened while the woman who spoke to her at first got even angrier at her words

“So, you are already calling yourself Luna? Listen here, you are not the Luna of this pack and I doubt you would ever be. We don’t want a proud and ignorant foreigner as our Luna. Plus, you are the daughter of our pack’s rival so you are incapable of being our Luna. You are nothing but a tool for peace and your stay in this pack is numbered” the woman spoke with a disdainful look evident in her eyes as she glared at Serafine. 

Out of all the words she said, the one that hit Serafine the most was the fact that she was just a tool for peace. Yes, she can not deny it and it is the truth. The bitter truth. 

‘No one wants her and her being the tool is like her being thrown into the enemy zone without any care. Her family and pack hate her, so why would she expect anything less from this pack?’

Despite the sting she felt in her heart, it was not evident on her face and instead, she raised her chin higher acting unfazed by the words of the woman who had just spoken to her.

“I won’t dispute the fact that I was used as a tool for peace. Yes, I was but can you still say that now? Even in front of the alpha? You know it’s funny, most of you want your daughters to be Luna, yet, the alpha chose someone totally different to be with him. Isn’t that ironic” Serafine said with a calm look on her face. She knew she was wrong for dragging Alcide into this, but she had no choice.

“That doesn’t still make you a Luna. I am even pretty sure that the Alpha has not touched you yet. Or put this way, have you touched our Alpha yet? “ the woman replied as Serafine saw a smirk grow up on her face. Yes, the woman was right, the alpha had not touched her yet, and neither had she. This is just a sign that he despises her. But no, she would stand up for herself even when no one does that for her. She was tired of being bullied by others. She was tired of being treated like she did not matter, she would put an end to it all right now. 

“You know, your words make me wonder if you are truly after the well-being of this pack and Alpha or if you are after your own personal well-being. If not, why would you tackle and criticize someone you just met? Is that what you are here for? If it were to be your daughter or niece in my place, would you still say the same?” Serafine asked,  playing the guilty card. The words hit the woman and she had no more words to say. It not only hit the woman, it also hit all the women present there. Another woman spoke 

“Enough both of you. This is not why we are here. Serafine, we came here to enlighten you on some of the things you are meant to take note of in your stay here, especially in your journey toward becoming the Luna of this pack. And yes, I know you are ignorant but you are one of us, at least for now and you should know the way we do things”. The woman said and just as she was about to continue, someone walked in.

Serafine turned her head and just as she looked up, she found the alpha staring at her.
