Geneveive Tessa Robert
Sunlight shone through the window as I rose up from bed. It was Saturday. A day when I didn’t have to be at work but was at home with the kids and enjoyed quality time. I jumped out of bed, strolled into the shower, and spent one hour enjoying the coolness of the water.
Kyle King had finally become a regular visitor in the house, but I had yet to introduce him to the kids as their dad. I still needed time to process what he really wanted, and he seemed ready to wait, and I was appreciative of that fact. I slid into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. My red hair needed a nice hair treatment, and I had been putting it on hold for awhile. Maybe I could do a short wave and change to a blond look or blue curls. It will fit my symmetrical face.
I smiled to myself, picking up my phone. There were missed calls from Vera. Was she back from China? Murphy had chosen the Asian country because Vera had never seen the Great Wall of China or other interesting wonders. She had been thrilled about his care for her needs and wants.
I dialled her number, taking the elevator to the ground floor. I was spoiling myself, and I liked the idea. Kyle had been shocked and envious when he visited the house for the first time. He had asked a lot of questions and was impressed when I told him everything was gotten through my hard work. He really thought I wouldn’t survive without him, and I did.
‘Hello, babe. Are you just waking up? I called you several times earlier today?’ Vera answered, laughing heartily. I could hear some kids' voices. Voices I knew by heart.
‘Don’t tell me you’re in my house?’ I squealed, jumping out of the elevator immediately after it opened.
She giggled, ‘Take a wide guess, dear.’
I rushed to the kitchen, but they weren’t there. I yelled several times until my throat ached. I sighed as realization hit me. Vera had taken them out while I was asleep.
I sighed. ‘Where are you and the kids?’
‘At the famous Roberts family home, We’re having a nice lunch with your parents. I am sorry I didn’t wake you up, but Estella said you had a long, draining week and have been sleeping late due to work pressures.’
I bit my bottom lip, glancing at the wall clock. I didn’t realize it was noon until she mentioned it. I slept all morning. I must definitely be exhausted.
‘It’s alright. I was already thinking of how I would get them out of the house while Estella and I did laundry. I guess I can do that peacefully now.’
She moaned, ‘You won’t be joining us? Your mom prepared those amazing omelets we used to love while growing up. She still has the magical touch.’
I stopped myself from remembering how relishing mom’s omelets were. They were tempting and would make me appear in their home. A thirty-minute drive. I wasn’t ready for that.
‘You can bring some for me when you drop by later, right? Or are you staying over with Estella and the kids?’
‘Hmm… No, I am not. I have missed you, girl, and I owe you all the honeymoon gist.’
I laughed. ‘You still haven’t told me when you returned from China. I thought you guys would be arriving next week. Did something happen?’
‘No, nothing happened. We just had enough of what China had to offer, and Murphy had work deadlines to meet. We have already spent an extra two weeks, longer than his work permit.’
‘Oh,’ I whispered, taking a glass from the cupboard and a wine bottle from the fridge. ‘I thought they gave him one month and a half for the honeymoon?’
She sighed, 'Exactly, but you know he just switched careers and is currently handling one of your father’s companies. There seems to be some work project they are starting, and they need all hands on deck.’
‘Oh, yeah. I totally forgot about that fact, babe. I’m so sorry. If I remembered, I would have spoken to James to allow you guys to enjoy more than that duration. It’s your one and only honeymoon!’
‘It’s alright. Your dad has promised us a long Christmas holiday with a lot of perks. It’s pretty nice marrying from your family, babe.’ She laughed. I could feel her winking too.
Vera wasn’t a gold digger, but she enjoyed spending other people’s money. Her company CEO had spoiled her with a blank check and paid for a year-long spa experience at the famous Tai Chai Spa in the country. There were also extra perks in the box, like getting two months off from work, which explains why she was with my kids at this moment.
‘I am just happy you’re finally married. Get here soon so that we can chat properly. I hate long phone calls.’ I complained and stared at my phone. The battery was critically low. I had forgotten to charge it last night. I cut the call immediately and sent her a text explaining my situation.
I plugged my phone in, drank the remaining wine, and strolled to the washing machine. Estella had done most of the clothes, so I continued with the remaining ones while thinking about a certain person.
An hour later, I was done with laundry, housekeeping, dishwashing, and arranging the kids room. I was suddenly feeling lonely, so I glanced through my phone, and my fingers lingered on the contact of the one person I shouldn’t be falling for.
Kyle King
How could I be falling for my ex-husband again? It wasn’t like he had done a grand gesture, but the little things like the flowers and helping with kids when Estella wasn’t around. He even sent lunch to my office whenever I was occupied.
This was taboo. inappropriate behaviour, but suddenly, I knew what I wanted from him.
Geneveive Tessa RobertRain. The silent drips remind me of the third time I went on a date with Kyle King. I had just gotten off of a call from mom. Another disagreement on the choice of man I was planning to spend the rest of my life with. He had listened as I rattled about my parents and how controlling they could be. Back then, I hated James, and I blamed their attitude on him. The next thing he did had never left me till this day. He stood up, kneel before me, and brought out a ring. We were married the next weekend.‘I have told you to stop dwelling on the past. It won’t change anything, Tessa.’ Vera said, handing me a cup of steaming tea.I smiled, taking the cup. ‘Thank you, Vera. You’re the best clairvoyant that I know in the world. I was just reminiscing about the few happy memories I had in the past. That’s
Kyle King‘We have a meeting with Planet O executives by two o’clock and another one with one of our suppliers. They have a new product they would like to introduce, and from the reviews, I feel it will be great if you listen to them. ‘ Christine said, looking up from her tablet.Give your staff a little freedom, and they will start misusing it. I wasn’t surprised. My absence had caused a lot of issues already, but I wasn’t angry. I just needed to set things straight and remind them that the boss was back.‘Christine, what’s your position again in this company?’ I asked, looking coolly at her.
Kyle KingThe cafe reminded me of Avaline. It was strange that I hadn’t thought about her until now. She had been a mistake, or better yet, a pill I had taken to cure a remedy. The pill didn’t work, but I remained addicted to it until the effects were glaring. I preferred not to think about her as a lover or wife because it only hurt me more, and the memories of what we had together made me feel used.Okay, she didn’t use me, but we used each other. I must admit that I enjoyed the time we spent together. She was the fire in our marriage, and her influence in the social circle improved the King’s Company’s ratings. Somehow along the line, when I discovered her wasteful habit and also her entitled nature, I began to lose interest. Thank goodness, she was finally out of my life for good.‘She’s at that right corner. I hope she doesn’t cut my head a
Geneveive Tessa RobertI blinked at the alarm clock and closed my eyes for the eleventh time. It was two a.m., and I was still unable to sleep. I opened my eyes and reached out for the novel chosen by the book club, an old read for me—Firestarter by Stephen King. I wondered why we had to read something like this in a book club where the majority of the members were hopeless romantics. I stared at the folded page and slowly opened it. I was still stuck in chapter eight since I started the book at the beginning of the month. Even though it was an old read, I was still finding it difficult to read it because I was distracted and worried. Kyle King.He kept creeping into my mind every now and then. Today made it the third week we had been speaking since he left for Nashville. We don’t speak every day, but the interaction has been top-notch. He always updated me on everything he did over there, while I reciprocated the energy. I caught myself more than I expected, and slowly, I began to
Geneveive Tessa Robert‘I don’t think I want the room to be pink. What if it’s not a girl but a boy?’ Vera asked, rubbing her stomach. The bump wasn’t obvious yet, but she did everything to make everyone aware that she was expecting a baby.I glanced at the pale walls. ‘We don’t have to paint the walls until the sixth month, you know? We can just arrange the room and put up the cradle for now. What do you think?’‘Nah… I want to paint it now. This is my first child, and I want everything to be ready before he or she comes.’ she sighed.I knew something was wrong when a tear fell. ‘Vera, what’s the problem? Did the doctor say anything concerning the baby?’She sniffed. ‘Yes, it’s not a big issue, though. It’s more me than the baby. My blood pressure increased again, and the doctor is really concerned. He thinks the baby is the cause! Can you imagine?’I took her hands and made her sit on the only couch in the room. ‘Vera, you know he’s just giving you a medical opinion. I also think yo
Kyle KingI replied to some emails, typed my task list, and reviewed reports all through the morning. I instructed Christine not to allow anyone in except the Planet O executives. I needed no distraction at the moment. Even though there was one lurking in my heart, I picked up my phone and dialled her number again. It went to voicemail again. I typed a message and hoped she would reply. I didn't want to stop replying to her messages, but work activities had been so hectic, and Mom was monitoring my activities. She saw a text from Tessa, and we had one of the biggest fights. The fight destroyed my mood, and I couldn't bring myself to call Tessa because I knew I might end up transferring the aggression to her.Maybe she was busy at her end or she was rethinking her stance in my life, which would not be good. I scrolled through my phone and called the last person I never thought would need his time now or ever. Her junior brother is James. Her sole protector. During my stay in the Unite
Geneveive Tessa Robert‘Take it easy, Hope. There's still more spaghetti here.’ I yelled, watching her take another mouthful.‘Let her be, Tessa. She’s enjoying the meal, and look at Nicholas; he’s also swallowing the food.’ Vera said, laughing.I sighed. When it comes to food, they have no control. They ate like there was an appointment; they needed to keep up with it. I glanced at Vera and smiled. Her bump was coming out faster than we expected, and I could feel the pride in the way she carried herself lately. She wasn’t brooding anymore or thinking about her health condition. She had another attack before we finally decided to take a long vacation and return next year. The doctor had agreed to the idea and instructed that Vera rest and ensure she didn’t do anything that would increase her blood pressure.Vera had been reluctant, but I had to remind her about the benefits of the vacation, and Murphy played the final role in convincing her. We agreed to stay at a resort for the rest
Kyle King‘Are you sure you can’t do anything about her? She’s clearly on my neck and now wants to stop my deal with Planet O! You've got to try something for me. We can't just give up just like that.’ I slammed my fists on the desk, frightening Attorney Smith. His fingers shook as he took a long gulp of the bottle of water he held tightly like it was his mother. ‘I read through the company’s contract, and you actually signed the company to her by giving her the higher veto power. You shouldn’t blame me for that mistake.’I glared at him, fantasizing about the idea of using his bottle of water to slam his face. It was cruel, but at least he would know how serious I was. Planet O had agreed to sell the company to us. We had the right capital, and my business plan seemed innovative to them. Mom suddenly came in, and the executives switched to her side, or, like Xavier said, became her lap dogs, and voted against buying the company. After all the papers had been signed, we were expecte
