Kyle King
I replied to some emails, typed my task list, and reviewed reports all through the morning. I instructed Christine not to allow anyone in except the Planet O executives. I needed no distraction at the moment. Even though there was one lurking in my heart, I picked up my phone and dialled her number again. It went to voicemail again.
I typed a message and hoped she would reply. I didn't want to stop replying to her messages, but work activities had been so hectic, and Mom was monitoring my activities. She saw a text from Tessa, and we had one of the biggest fights. The fight destroyed my mood, and I couldn't bring myself to call Tessa because I knew I might end up transferring the aggression to her.
Maybe she was busy at her end or she was rethinking her stance in my life, which would not be good. I scrolled through my phone and called the last person I never thought would need his time now or ever. Her junior brother is James. Her sole protector. During my stay in the United Kingdom, he maintained a cordial relationship, helped with Tessa’s surprise home dinner, and threatened more than I can count now.
If there was anyone who could talk to Tessa on her behalf, he was the best bet. I dialled his number again. He picked up after the third attempt.
‘Yeah, who is this?’ he asked.
Nice; he didn’t save my number. ‘It’s Kyle. I am sorry for disturbing you. I have been trying to reach Tessa, but she’s not picking. Is everything okay over there?’
He chuckled. ‘If she’s not picking up your calls, then that means she’s no longer interested in being friends with you. I can’t change her mind on that if you are about to ask for that.’
I scoffed, not believing his insinuation. Tessa wouldn’t just end everything by using the silent treatment method. She was bigger than that. I also sensed the energy between us. She was enjoying my company, and her constant messages before she stopped proved that. I told James that much.
‘That’s a lie. Our communication has been strong, and Tessa wouldn’t end things like that without having a conversation with me. Please tell her to return my calls when she can. We need to talk.’
‘Right. You’re giving me orders now. Anyway, I would try, and if she listens to me, you will get a call from her. How’s Nashville?’
I sighed, thanking my stars inwardly. ‘ Thank you, James. Nashville is hot, and a lot of business wars are going on. Are you planning on coming over?’
He replied lazily, ‘No, I am not till Christmas Eve. Take care, bro.’
I smiled, dropping the call. I could concentrate on Planet O’s meeting. I quickly logged into the Skype link and joined them. Thankfully, Xavier was there already.
I listened through every detail, but somehow, Tessa’s face kept coming up in my mind. Xavier had to cover up several times for me because I kept missing what the executives were saying. After three hours, we concluded another meeting. They didn’t believe King’s Company had enough to buy the company. Also, thanks to Avaline, they had an issue with the brand image.
‘I told you marrying Avaline was a bad idea, but you wouldn’t listen to me then. Now, look at what this is going to cause us.’ Xavier said, sighing loudly.
I stared at his face through the screen. ‘They aren’t backing out yet, Xavi. They want to think about it, and they will return to us. The King’s Company is the only one who is willing to buy their company for that price. Our competitors' asking prices are low, and they know that too.’
He shook his head. ‘Of course. Why were you distracted during the meeting? Thinking about your mom?’
I chuckled, ‘No, not that woman. I have been trying to reach Tessa, but she’s not picking. I guess my stupid behaviour pushed her away.’
‘The problem with you is that you never listen to me. I told you that keeping her on hold because of your mom and work activities was wrong. Did you listen? No. You had a second chance to make things right, but you were ruined. I just don’t understand you, Kyle. Why must everything always be complicated when you are involved?
I groaned, hating the way he spoke, but I knew he was saying the truth. Kyle King’s life was complicated. ‘James promised to speak to her on my behalf. I'm sure she will change her mind soon.’
He chuckled harshly, ‘She won’t. I heard she travelled to France with her best friend for Christmas vacation. They are returning next year, and maybe she will return, taken by a fine, godly French man who respects her. I hope she doesn’t give you free passage into her life again because you don’t deserve it.’
I fumed, slamming my fists on the table. ‘That’s harsh, Xavier. If you aren’t going to help me figure out my complicated life, then shut up! You have no right to judge my actions, okay? No right at all!’
‘Fine. Figure out your shitty situation yourself, and I hope you will do it quickly.’ He replied, cutting off the call.
Oh boy! This wasn’t how I planned for our conversation to end. I wasn’t ready for another fight with Xavier. He was my number-one ally. The one who stood by me when things got tough and hard! I blamed my mother for everything. That woman was driving me crazy. I needed to discover a way to remove her from the board of executives. She had more power than me, and lately, she has been using it to bend everyone to do her bidding, including me.
There had to be a way. I sent a quick text to Attorney Smith asking him to meet me up tomorrow while I reviewed the company’s contracts and policies. There was something in all these documents that could remove Mrs. Dahila King from my back.
Geneveive Tessa Robert‘Take it easy, Hope. There's still more spaghetti here.’ I yelled, watching her take another mouthful.‘Let her be, Tessa. She’s enjoying the meal, and look at Nicholas; he’s also swallowing the food.’ Vera said, laughing.I sighed. When it comes to food, they have no control. They ate like there was an appointment; they needed to keep up with it. I glanced at Vera and smiled. Her bump was coming out faster than we expected, and I could feel the pride in the way she carried herself lately. She wasn’t brooding anymore or thinking about her health condition. She had another attack before we finally decided to take a long vacation and return next year. The doctor had agreed to the idea and instructed that Vera rest and ensure she didn’t do anything that would increase her blood pressure.Vera had been reluctant, but I had to remind her about the benefits of the vacation, and Murphy played the final role in convincing her. We agreed to stay at a resort for the rest
Kyle King‘Are you sure you can’t do anything about her? She’s clearly on my neck and now wants to stop my deal with Planet O! You've got to try something for me. We can't just give up just like that.’ I slammed my fists on the desk, frightening Attorney Smith. His fingers shook as he took a long gulp of the bottle of water he held tightly like it was his mother. ‘I read through the company’s contract, and you actually signed the company to her by giving her the higher veto power. You shouldn’t blame me for that mistake.’I glared at him, fantasizing about the idea of using his bottle of water to slam his face. It was cruel, but at least he would know how serious I was. Planet O had agreed to sell the company to us. We had the right capital, and my business plan seemed innovative to them. Mom suddenly came in, and the executives switched to her side, or, like Xavier said, became her lap dogs, and voted against buying the company. After all the papers had been signed, we were expecte
Geneveive Tessa RobertI felt sick even before I stepped out of bed. It wasn’t a fever. I have been worrying and been unable to sleep ever since I started the silent treatment. The one where I read Kyle’s messages, ignored his calls, and zoomed him off my thinking radar. I stepped out of the bed and walked into the shower. Showers had a way of relaxing my thoughts and allowing me to review my decisions on certain things. This time around, all my decisions revolved around Kyle. A few minutes later, I stepped out of my room, feeling better. I knew what I had to do. ‘Hey, dear. You look better than yesterday. How’s the headache?’ Vera asked, arranging the plates for breakfast. I sighed. She wasn’t supposed to be doing anything but resting. Vera never listens.‘You should have allowed Estella and the men to do the arrangement. You shouldn’t stress yourself. You promised.’She shrugged. ‘Okay, doctor, but you know I am indisposed, just pregnant. Y'all are treating me like I would break
Kyle KingI checked through the window blinds and continued pacing. I was beginning to feel the idea wouldn’t work. Mom hadn’t shown up, and she wasn’t picking up calls. The meeting was supposed to start at one p.m., but apparently, Mom didn’t want it to hold because she knew she was going to lose the battle.Xavier had employed the services of his uncle, a prominent attorney, and somehow, the man had found a hole in the contract. He explained the condition in layman’s language, and from what I deduced, mom was supposed to step down once I had children and increase the profits of the company to at least eighty percent.I hadn’
Geneveive Tessa Robert‘All right, everyone. I hope we packed everything?’ I yelled, glancing at the suitcases. Mom had called about an emergency at Hoplas. One of my high-paying clients was about to cancel a major contract with us because she had mistakenly sent a document that contained X-rated links of her kinks to the creative team. The creative head, who had always hated my client’s guts, had released the links to the media. It was crazy drama, and Mom had tried to manage it, but the client's lawyer had gotten a lawyer to sue us for invasion of privacy and sharing contents without her permission. I couldn’t last night because I kept thinking about how I had already reached the peak of my career and that creative head. What’s her name again? Mary just had
Geneveive Tessa RobertI glanced at the table across the room, and my eyes settled on the figure who was the cause of my distraction. Kyle King. I thought he was kidding when he informed me a few days ago that he was in the United Kingdom. Seeing him now, I knew I should have taken his words seriously and prepared my body and myself for his reappearance in my life. I watched him take a glass of juice while his focus remained on the magazine he was reading. He was oblivious to his environment or me watching him. Xavier was trying to capture his attention, but he said nothing and continued reading. Whatever was in the magazine must be extremely serious. A deep, masculine voice called me. My lunch date is Sam. I had completely forgotten about him. Mum had hooked me up with him because she was tired of seeing the faraway look on myself. ‘Just for now, okay? Get to know him and have adult conversations with him. You aren’t ready to accept Kyle back, so stop holding yourself back from me
Kyle King‘Here we are, Kyle. They’re probably at the swimming pool learning a new skill or reading. James always ensures they are never bored, whenever they are.’ Tessa said, switching off the car.I nodded, talking in the magnificent structure of her father’s house. It was situated on a private estate, and there were more houses than expected to be here. I stared at her again. She was talking about the kids' favourite sports and wondering if it would be great to allow Nicholas to join his school football team next year. She wanted my opinion on Nicholas. Change, is this you?‘Yeah, I think it will be great if he joins the soccer team. He’s a natural, and James has been training him pretty well.’ I replied, following her into the house. I paused, looking at the view. Okay, I wasn’t expecting Robert’s house to be stunning! Extremely stunning. There was beautiful artwork of Tessa and the kids covering the wall of the living room. It was beautiful.‘Did you draw this?’ I asked, walking
Geneveive Tessa RobertIt was Friday afternoon. The wind blew harshly, and I drew my coat together. Tonight was our Thanksgiving dinner, and the next day was Christmas. Stores and supermarkets were already decorated, and discounts were flying everywhere. I had already gotten the kids’s Christmas presents, which were tucked in my wardrobe. The Christmas tree was overly decorated due to the kids' curiosities, and the house was designed to fulfill the righteousness of the Christmas spirit. We were good to go. I stopped before the double doors of Nath’s Bakery. Chef Santiago had promised us one of his signature chocolate cakes, but at the last minute, a family emergency came in, and the plans changed. Estella was already in Arizona enjoying the Christmas holiday, and I couldn’t bake to save my life. I double-checked the order and pick-up date to be certain that I wasn’t missing anything, and I stepped in.‘Hi, I am here to pick up my order, Miss Geneveive Robert. I called earlier today.’
