Kyle King
‘Are you sure you can’t do anything about her? She’s clearly on my neck and now wants to stop my deal with Planet O! You've got to try something for me. We can't just give up just like that.’ I slammed my fists on the desk, frightening Attorney Smith.
His fingers shook as he took a long gulp of the bottle of water he held tightly like it was his mother. ‘I read through the company’s contract, and you actually signed the company to her by giving her the higher veto power. You shouldn’t blame me for that mistake.’
I glared at him, fantasizing about the idea of using his bottle of water to slam his face. It was cruel, but at least he would know how serious I was. Planet O had agreed to sell the company to us. We had the right capital, and my business plan seemed innovative to them. Mom suddenly came in, and the executives switched to her side, or, like Xavier said, became her lap dogs, and voted against buying the company.
After all the papers had been signed, we were expected to send in their payment and because of her, I couldn't. This drama started at the beginning of the week, and my phone hasn’t stopped buzzing with messages and calls from Planet O’s executives. The news had reached them, and they wanted to cancel the deal with us. They had never liked my mother anyway, and I wasn’t surprised.
Attorney Smith didn’t understand what was going on or what I would lose if I couldn’t get Mom’s lap dogs in my size. If only she didn’t hold the highest veto power. It would have been so easy to go ahead with the deal without considering the ‘lapdogs’ opinions.
‘If you don’t figure this thing out, I am going to get myself another lawyer who understands loyalty and respect. Now, get out!’ I gritted, my eyes bulging. I was really pissed off.
‘I am sorry, Kyle, but I was just being truthful. You didn’t listen to me when I warned you about your decision. I will figure out what we can do about your mom, and I will revert.’
I sneered. ‘Just get out of here this minute before I figure out if a broken nose fits your plastic face or not!’
He took off, not minding shutting my door. Rubbish. I wondered why I had him as an attorney when all he did was make stupid remarks and remind me of my mistakes. Yes, he warned me, but he didn’t bother to tell me the implications of my actions. If he had told me, did he think I would have signed the contract then?
I dropped into my chair and dialled the one person who always came to my aid. We hadn’t settled, but he was the only person who could help me at this point.
The reason I hadn't settled with him was because I was a proud person, and I shouldn't be the first person to make the first step this time around. I had always been the first person to initiate the ‘apologies meeting, and Xavier always felt entitled. Okay, our apology meeting always felt like a husband and wife trying to solve their marital issues, which sounds weird to me now.
I stopped the call and hit another number. Another trial wouldn't hurt. Her number rang several times, but she didn't pick it.
I felt a stab in my chest. Another day of not hearing from Tessa. I was almost giving up, but something about her silent treatment inspired me. I had to know the reason why she stopped picking for one good month. December was here already, and I had imagined a chilly holiday here in Nashville with the children.
A little bird told me they would be spending the holidays here, and I had hoped to use that opportunity to draw her to my place with the kids.
That wasn't going to happen, though. She was in France and wasn't picking up or responding to messages. James had blocked me, and I didn't have the courage to call her parents.
Even though they seemed cool with my reappearance in Tessa's life, I couldn't help but think that there was a lot of disapproving comment they held behind their smiles. I wasn't eager to figure out what it was, and I know my call can turn them off.
My phone rang, interrupting my thoughts. Not the person I wanted at the moment, but well, my current crisis would be solved by him.
‘Hello, Kyle, How are you doing?. It's been a minute.’
I replied, enjoying his dry tone. Asking for his apology could hold until another day. “I need your help on something. I won't call you if it's not urgent.’
He scoffed, ‘Kyle, you owe me an apology. Say it, and I will help you out.’
I laughed. ‘You are such a baby, Xavi. You do know our apologies always sound like we are husband and wife, right?
‘Whatever, man. Are you going to say it, or should I return to my baby? We were having a make-up session before you called.’
Gross. I could almost imagine him feeling the lips of a nameless girl. He stopped caring about his hookups' names after Yashna. He didn't want anything to remind him about them after they left. The only time he remembered them was when he couldn't find someone for his next escapade or if he enjoyed their company.
‘I know you said I should never ask about your personal lifestyle, but Xavi, when will you stick to someone finally? You aren't getting younger, you know?’
He hissed, ‘Apologise right now or forget about it, Kyle.’
I sighed, ‘It’s all because of the Planet O project, though not because I want to appease your ego, bro. I am sorry for yelling and making you feel like an unwanted friend. I promise..’
He cut me off. ‘Don’t promise me because you and I know you aren't good at keeping promises.’
‘Yeah, right.’
‘So, what's going on with Planet O and your mom? It's been trending on the internet. How bad is it?’
I sighed and started telling him how she turned the board against me and ensured my privileges were reviewed. The Planet O project and how she has successfully stopped the deal from going through.
‘Wow, it's not so bad, though. What about Attorney Smith?’
I sneered, ‘He isn't useful to my life at this point. Can you help me out?
He paused for a while- I could almost hear him think out loud. ‘Alright, I will be at your house tomorrow to figure everything out, okay?’
‘Thank you, Xavi. You’re the best friend a man can ask for in this world.’
He laughed and hung up. This was another reason why I shouldn't lose Xavier’s friendship.
Geneveive Tessa RobertI felt sick even before I stepped out of bed. It wasn’t a fever. I have been worrying and been unable to sleep ever since I started the silent treatment. The one where I read Kyle’s messages, ignored his calls, and zoomed him off my thinking radar. I stepped out of the bed and walked into the shower. Showers had a way of relaxing my thoughts and allowing me to review my decisions on certain things. This time around, all my decisions revolved around Kyle. A few minutes later, I stepped out of my room, feeling better. I knew what I had to do. ‘Hey, dear. You look better than yesterday. How’s the headache?’ Vera asked, arranging the plates for breakfast. I sighed. She wasn’t supposed to be doing anything but resting. Vera never listens.‘You should have allowed Estella and the men to do the arrangement. You shouldn’t stress yourself. You promised.’She shrugged. ‘Okay, doctor, but you know I am indisposed, just pregnant. Y'all are treating me like I would break
Kyle KingI checked through the window blinds and continued pacing. I was beginning to feel the idea wouldn’t work. Mom hadn’t shown up, and she wasn’t picking up calls. The meeting was supposed to start at one p.m., but apparently, Mom didn’t want it to hold because she knew she was going to lose the battle.Xavier had employed the services of his uncle, a prominent attorney, and somehow, the man had found a hole in the contract. He explained the condition in layman’s language, and from what I deduced, mom was supposed to step down once I had children and increase the profits of the company to at least eighty percent.I hadn’
Geneveive Tessa Robert‘All right, everyone. I hope we packed everything?’ I yelled, glancing at the suitcases. Mom had called about an emergency at Hoplas. One of my high-paying clients was about to cancel a major contract with us because she had mistakenly sent a document that contained X-rated links of her kinks to the creative team. The creative head, who had always hated my client’s guts, had released the links to the media. It was crazy drama, and Mom had tried to manage it, but the client's lawyer had gotten a lawyer to sue us for invasion of privacy and sharing contents without her permission. I couldn’t last night because I kept thinking about how I had already reached the peak of my career and that creative head. What’s her name again? Mary just had
Geneveive Tessa RobertI glanced at the table across the room, and my eyes settled on the figure who was the cause of my distraction. Kyle King. I thought he was kidding when he informed me a few days ago that he was in the United Kingdom. Seeing him now, I knew I should have taken his words seriously and prepared my body and myself for his reappearance in my life. I watched him take a glass of juice while his focus remained on the magazine he was reading. He was oblivious to his environment or me watching him. Xavier was trying to capture his attention, but he said nothing and continued reading. Whatever was in the magazine must be extremely serious. A deep, masculine voice called me. My lunch date is Sam. I had completely forgotten about him. Mum had hooked me up with him because she was tired of seeing the faraway look on myself. ‘Just for now, okay? Get to know him and have adult conversations with him. You aren’t ready to accept Kyle back, so stop holding yourself back from me
Kyle King‘Here we are, Kyle. They’re probably at the swimming pool learning a new skill or reading. James always ensures they are never bored, whenever they are.’ Tessa said, switching off the car.I nodded, talking in the magnificent structure of her father’s house. It was situated on a private estate, and there were more houses than expected to be here. I stared at her again. She was talking about the kids' favourite sports and wondering if it would be great to allow Nicholas to join his school football team next year. She wanted my opinion on Nicholas. Change, is this you?‘Yeah, I think it will be great if he joins the soccer team. He’s a natural, and James has been training him pretty well.’ I replied, following her into the house. I paused, looking at the view. Okay, I wasn’t expecting Robert’s house to be stunning! Extremely stunning. There was beautiful artwork of Tessa and the kids covering the wall of the living room. It was beautiful.‘Did you draw this?’ I asked, walking
Geneveive Tessa RobertIt was Friday afternoon. The wind blew harshly, and I drew my coat together. Tonight was our Thanksgiving dinner, and the next day was Christmas. Stores and supermarkets were already decorated, and discounts were flying everywhere. I had already gotten the kids’s Christmas presents, which were tucked in my wardrobe. The Christmas tree was overly decorated due to the kids' curiosities, and the house was designed to fulfill the righteousness of the Christmas spirit. We were good to go. I stopped before the double doors of Nath’s Bakery. Chef Santiago had promised us one of his signature chocolate cakes, but at the last minute, a family emergency came in, and the plans changed. Estella was already in Arizona enjoying the Christmas holiday, and I couldn’t bake to save my life. I double-checked the order and pick-up date to be certain that I wasn’t missing anything, and I stepped in.‘Hi, I am here to pick up my order, Miss Geneveive Robert. I called earlier today.’
Kyle King I took her in; she had changed her hair colour to raven black with bouncy curls. Her symmetrical face glowed under the bulb light, and her lips were as lucious as usual. Even the sweat beads building on her face didn't do her beauty enough justice. Tessa was what the world defined as a natural beauty. I tried to imagine how her backside would look now, but I caught myself and remembered I wasn’t supposed to be her exquisite building, salivating like a hungry dog. She hadn’t said since the housekeeper offered me a seat, but I refused and joined her in the kitchen. The housekeeper, Mrs. Hudson, tried to make the room lively, but after Tessa shot her one of her deadly looks, she kept quiet. ‘Why are you here, Kyle? I thought I told you once that you couldn’t come here with my permission, and you agreed to it?’ she said, dropping her apron. ‘Look, I have a family dinner to set up, and I am yet to get the pumpkin pie taste to perfection. Just say what you want, and please lea
Geneveive Tessa RobertThe Christmas celebration was beautiful. It wasn’t the first with my family, but the first with Kyle since we divorced. The kids had strangely gotten acquainted with him, and as much as I didn’t want that to happen, it did.I hadn’t seen them so happy in years, and somehow, I felt they knew that Kyle was their father. Mom believes it’s because they have another male figure in their lives other than James and my dad. I was glad they were happy with him, though, because revealing he was their dad later would be an easy process. Hopefully. He had suggested I inform them next year, but I was still unsure about his stance in my life. I have forgiven him, but did I want him back in my life as a husband or just a friend?I sighed, sipping my orange juice. The matter of the heart was complicated. No matter how many times I thought about my relationship with Kyle, I always ended up not deciding on anything because I was still unsure of my feelings. Some days, I thought a
