Geneveive Tessa Robert
I strolled into the office smiling and complemented some of the employees who were hanging around. They raised eyebrows, and I could see the questions in their replies. They must be wondering what was going on with me.
I couldn’t explain why I woke up feeling excited and relaxed. I had gone through the list of items that could be the cause. I had given up until a text message greeted me as I stepped out of the vehicle. Kyle. He had sent his fourth poem this week. An apology poem, and he had included a line from my favourite poem by Rudyard Kipling. As a smile formed on my face, I realized he was the reason why I had woken up excited. Even though I had tried to chase him away during Vera’s wedding, he still remained. So, I decided to play it cool, and we went on a friendly outing with the kids, which ended well. I was still protective of my emotions because I didn’t want to end up like that gullible Tessa years ago.I still didn’t trust Kyle or his love confession. He was a distraction for now, and I shouldn’t fall in love.
Another message popped up.‘What about a lunch date? Or a friendly lunchy datey? We can do one in your office if you can’t afford to get out.’
I smiled. Kyle was the only one allowed to use terminologies like lunchy datey. No one else was allowed to do so.
I replied, smiling widely. ‘I take it that you’re trying to buy me lunch, and I accept. We will meet at the cafe at the end of my office street. They make nice pastries.’‘Right. I will pick you then. I hope James won’t kill me for stealing you.’Ouch! I remembered immediately. I had promised James that we would be checking on my parents during lunch break. Mom had been put on bed rest again by the family doctor. She wouldn’t listen to take work activities easy and let Dad and James do the work. I bit my lips, wondering if I should put my ex-husband before my family. I knew the answer as I typed it.I think we can reschedule our lunch date. My parents need me during that time frame, and I can’t disappoint them.
He didn’t reply. I waited for a few minutes, and when nothing popped up, I placed my phone in DND mode and focused on work activities. If he felt disappointed and angry about my choice, then he wasn’t ready for that relationship with the kids. He had to accept that my family would always come before him. That was the new order of things. The old way had led to disownership, loneliness, and heartbreak. No more.Halsey walked in as I settled to review the report from our quarterly meeting. I had missed it a few days ago due to the twins parent’s day meeting. James had stood in for me, but he barely understood what they were discussing because, according to him, ‘they spoke jargon language.’
‘Good morning, ma. You’re in a good mood today. Did something happen during the week?’
I looked up, stifling a yawn. ‘But I was in a good mood yesterday, wasn’t I?’
She nodded, focusing her gaze on her notepad. ‘Yes, ma. You greeted almost everyone today, bought your expensive cappuccinos for us, and didn’t attend the board meeting. You never miss Wednesday’s board meeting.’
Oh well. So much for having a smart secretary who could read you like a book.
‘The twins won a good behaviour medal yesterday, and they helped Estella prepare my favourite toast bread and coffee as a thank you, mummy, gift for training properly. Shouldn’t I be happy about that?’
‘You should be, ma. Your kids are the best, and they deserve the medal. That was so lovely of them. I am sorry for my curious questions.’
I waved it off. ‘It’s alright. What are the remaining tasks for today?’
She smiled, reading them. ‘The meeting with Mr. McPhee is at two o’clock. Should I transfer him to one of the managers?’
Mr. McPhee and his prude behaviour. I was still healing from the last meeting we had. I didn’t want to see the annoying man today and maybe forever.
‘Let one of the executives take care of him. I have other things to take care of at the moment. Is there any other meeting I need to be available for?’She hummed, going through her notepad, ‘No. He’s the only one. Oh yes, someone dropped off a lunch basket for you. Should I bring it in?’
I thought for a second. A lunch basket? Probably James. I had joked during our brother and sister pep talk last night about how he was wealthier than me now and yet could'n't surprise me with a lunch date. He had laughed it off and promised to do it soon.
The lunch basket was filled with Italian pastries and strawberry ice cream. There was a note with a familiar scent.
Family comes first, but you’re my first. I hope we can have a lunch date together someday.
Kyle King. I knew it before I read the entire note. His scent was easy to feel and identify. I had been with him for a few weeks and knew his body scent better than I knew mine. Was this love? No. It was an introduction. A short note to prepare me for what's coming and what won’t come. I threw the card into the trash bin, but not the lunch basket. I will be keeping his second gift because it was genuine and came from a heart that finally understood what it meant to be selfless.
I picked up my phone and typed a thank-you message. He had sent a reply earlier to my previous message.Time was built to wait for us, but not anyone else. I will be here whenever you are ready.
I shook my head. Kyle King wasn’t ready to give up.
Kyle KingA new day has come. I whistled to myself as I reviewed the slides for the business plan I was working on to purchase Planet O. The rumour about the giant company collapsing had returned true, and according to my mom, purchasing them at this point was the right financial decision.D.K Company had been my one sure ticket to hit the under-40 billionaire list, but due to my mistakes and love, I left it for Tessa. It had been a losing battle, and none of the shareholders were open to giving me a chance to explain myself. If it had been another partner who was trying to play smart, I would have fought with everything I had within me, but it was Tessa. Letting go was easy. The Gomez family was relocating to Spain after losing a major deal with the government. Christopher had been in charge, but something happened along the line, and the deal hit the rocks. This is the sixt
Geneveive Tessa RobertSunlight shone through the window as I rose up from bed. It was Saturday. A day when I didn’t have to be at work but was at home with the kids and enjoyed quality time. I jumped out of bed, strolled into the shower, and spent one hour enjoying the coolness of the water.Kyle King had finally become a regular visitor in the house, but I had yet to introduce him to the kids as their dad. I still needed time to process what he really wanted, and he seemed ready to wait, and I was appreciative of that fact. I slid into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. My red hair needed a nice hair treatment, and I had been putting it on hold for awhile. Maybe I could do a short wave and change to a blond look or blue curls. It will fit my symmetrical face.
Geneveive Tessa RobertRain. The silent drips remind me of the third time I went on a date with Kyle King. I had just gotten off of a call from mom. Another disagreement on the choice of man I was planning to spend the rest of my life with. He had listened as I rattled about my parents and how controlling they could be. Back then, I hated James, and I blamed their attitude on him. The next thing he did had never left me till this day. He stood up, kneel before me, and brought out a ring. We were married the next weekend.‘I have told you to stop dwelling on the past. It won’t change anything, Tessa.’ Vera said, handing me a cup of steaming tea.I smiled, taking the cup. ‘Thank you, Vera. You’re the best clairvoyant that I know in the world. I was just reminiscing about the few happy memories I had in the past. That’s
Kyle King‘We have a meeting with Planet O executives by two o’clock and another one with one of our suppliers. They have a new product they would like to introduce, and from the reviews, I feel it will be great if you listen to them. ‘ Christine said, looking up from her tablet.Give your staff a little freedom, and they will start misusing it. I wasn’t surprised. My absence had caused a lot of issues already, but I wasn’t angry. I just needed to set things straight and remind them that the boss was back.‘Christine, what’s your position again in this company?’ I asked, looking coolly at her.
Kyle KingThe cafe reminded me of Avaline. It was strange that I hadn’t thought about her until now. She had been a mistake, or better yet, a pill I had taken to cure a remedy. The pill didn’t work, but I remained addicted to it until the effects were glaring. I preferred not to think about her as a lover or wife because it only hurt me more, and the memories of what we had together made me feel used.Okay, she didn’t use me, but we used each other. I must admit that I enjoyed the time we spent together. She was the fire in our marriage, and her influence in the social circle improved the King’s Company’s ratings. Somehow along the line, when I discovered her wasteful habit and also her entitled nature, I began to lose interest. Thank goodness, she was finally out of my life for good.‘She’s at that right corner. I hope she doesn’t cut my head a
Geneveive Tessa RobertI blinked at the alarm clock and closed my eyes for the eleventh time. It was two a.m., and I was still unable to sleep. I opened my eyes and reached out for the novel chosen by the book club, an old read for me—Firestarter by Stephen King. I wondered why we had to read something like this in a book club where the majority of the members were hopeless romantics. I stared at the folded page and slowly opened it. I was still stuck in chapter eight since I started the book at the beginning of the month. Even though it was an old read, I was still finding it difficult to read it because I was distracted and worried. Kyle King.He kept creeping into my mind every now and then. Today made it the third week we had been speaking since he left for Nashville. We don’t speak every day, but the interaction has been top-notch. He always updated me on everything he did over there, while I reciprocated the energy. I caught myself more than I expected, and slowly, I began to
Geneveive Tessa Robert‘I don’t think I want the room to be pink. What if it’s not a girl but a boy?’ Vera asked, rubbing her stomach. The bump wasn’t obvious yet, but she did everything to make everyone aware that she was expecting a baby.I glanced at the pale walls. ‘We don’t have to paint the walls until the sixth month, you know? We can just arrange the room and put up the cradle for now. What do you think?’‘Nah… I want to paint it now. This is my first child, and I want everything to be ready before he or she comes.’ she sighed.I knew something was wrong when a tear fell. ‘Vera, what’s the problem? Did the doctor say anything concerning the baby?’She sniffed. ‘Yes, it’s not a big issue, though. It’s more me than the baby. My blood pressure increased again, and the doctor is really concerned. He thinks the baby is the cause! Can you imagine?’I took her hands and made her sit on the only couch in the room. ‘Vera, you know he’s just giving you a medical opinion. I also think yo
Kyle KingI replied to some emails, typed my task list, and reviewed reports all through the morning. I instructed Christine not to allow anyone in except the Planet O executives. I needed no distraction at the moment. Even though there was one lurking in my heart, I picked up my phone and dialled her number again. It went to voicemail again. I typed a message and hoped she would reply. I didn't want to stop replying to her messages, but work activities had been so hectic, and Mom was monitoring my activities. She saw a text from Tessa, and we had one of the biggest fights. The fight destroyed my mood, and I couldn't bring myself to call Tessa because I knew I might end up transferring the aggression to her.Maybe she was busy at her end or she was rethinking her stance in my life, which would not be good. I scrolled through my phone and called the last person I never thought would need his time now or ever. Her junior brother is James. Her sole protector. During my stay in the Unite
