Geneveive Tessa Robert
I picked up another mouthful of the sandwich cake. It was perfect. Kyle still knew his onions, even though he barely cooked when we were married. He never had the time due to his giant business. I was surprised he was able to create time to do something special for me. I stared at him again.
He was quiet, stealing glances at me. I smiled slowly. I decided to start a conversation. Compliment his dinner efforts? Yeah, that sounded like a good way to make him feel comfortable with me.
I dropped my spoon, smiling a bit, and said, ‘Thank you for the incredible dinner, Kyle. I really enjoyed myself, and this sandwich cake is awesome. How did you get a perfect taste?’
He shrugged. ‘I know a few tricks. I thought you didn’t like the dinner. You said nothing throughout the meal, just curt responses to my questions.’
Oh dear! I didn’t realise he had taken my silence to heart. I wanted to feel everything about the meal and not be forced to have awkward conversations. I thought he understood me.
‘I am sorry I made you feel that way, Kyle. I was just enjoying the meal and didn’t want to start any conversation that would upset the atmosphere. Honestly, thank you for the dinner. I enjoyed it.’
He smiled widely. ‘Alright, thank you. I am glad you enjoyed the meal. I didn’t want to order takeout because I knew you had a low tolerance for pepper.’
I chuckled. It’s been a while since anyone reminded me of my dislike for peppery meals. I had grown used to them due to Estella and her magical culinary skills. I didn’t tell Kyle, though. I didn’t want him to feel bad.
I replied, ‘Thank you for your concern. So, King’s Company When are you returning home?’
‘When you are ready to leave with me, Tessa, I am not going anywhere until you finally accept me into your life.’ He replied, smiling broadly.
I laughed, ‘You know this dinner date is just a one-time affair? You should make good of it instead of reminding me of ‘us’.’
He scoffed, getting up. ‘Let’s dance then. If tonight is my last time ever with you, I would like to make it memorable.’
I smiled, thinking for a moment. It was just a dance, not a bedroom offer. I took his hands, and immediately I felt that spark in me. I quickly withdrew my hands and noticed his confused gaze.
‘Your touch still does things to my body, Kyle. I don’t know if we should do this.’ I said, looking into his eyes. That was my second mistake. I remained transfixed as he took my hands slowly, rested his left hand on my back, and drew me closer. It took everything in me not to collapse in his embrace.
After an hour of dancing, he took me to his game room, and we played some station games and card games. I ended up winning most of them, and I felt happy. I caught myself several times ogling at him. I shouldn’t be having fun with someone I have sworn not to allow into my life anymore. I couldn’t stop myself, though. I think dancing with him opened up a new set of emotions. New set of emotions. I wasn’t ready for that lifestyle.
He called you a barren woman.
He divorced you because he wanted to be with his college lover.
He never loved you.
Why did you come here?
He still doesn’t respect you.
He’s only here because of the children.
My conscience attacked me as he led me to the parlour, and we fell into talking. I couldn’t shake the ugly feeling that I was starting something I might regret tonight.
I shouldn’t be on a date with my ex-husband. Mom had frowned at the idea, while Vera had approved. In her words, he was the twins' father, and it was necessary that I maintain a good relationship with him. I hope she was right.
‘What’s going on in your head?’ he asked, handing me a bucket of popcorn. We had decided to end the night with a comedy movie.
I smiled, collecting it. ‘I am missing the kids, that’s all. What about Xavier? I was going to ask earlier, but it slipped my mind.’
He replied, looking at me. ‘I hope I can meet the kids someday and spend some time with them. I would love to know more about them, if you don’t mind. As for Xavier, he’s at an all-night party. He will be back in the morning.’
I nodded at his comment on Xavier, but not at his hope to see the kids. I still hadn’t made up my mind to introduce him to them.
‘About the kids, you will have to give me some time, Kyle. I am only here because you have been trying your best to prove that you are a changed man, and right now, I know you're not the Kyle who divorced me years ago.’
He took my hand and squeezed it. ‘I am sorry for everything, Tessa. You made me who I am today. King’s Company is standing because of you, and I was so stupid to not appreciate your value until you left. Avaline proved that you are irreplaceable.’
I smiled. ‘How bad was Avaline?’
He chuckled, letting go of my hand. ‘So bad. The staff were afraid of her, including Christine.’
‘Well, you kind of deserve it, Kyle King. Anyway, can we start the movie?’
He stared at me for a moment, picked up the remote, and the movie started.
I fell on my bed after checking up on the kids. They were still up when I returned, and I had to read their bedtime stories to make them sleep. My phone buzzed. It was Kyle.
Thank you for tonight. I hope we can do this again with the kids.
I sighed. Kyle King would never give up until he got what he wanted. He would have to try harder.
‘You are welcome. Thank you for the excellent dinner and for being a beautiful host. Would there be another time? Let’s see.’
I smiled, knowing my reply would keep him on his feet.
Kyle King‘So you brought her into the house and hid the gist from me? That’s cruel, man.’ Xavier said, pouring another glass of juice.I had decided to tell Xavier about my date with Tessa, but now I regret my decision. The man didn’t know when to stop talking.‘So you mean Tessa left her house and dined with you in here? And left around nine p.m.? That’s weird, and I am finding it hard to believe you.’ He continued, rubbing his palms. ‘How did you convince her?’I shook my head. ‘You should have been a journalist, Xavi, not an ethics hacker or business developer. I would have loved to tell you how everything happened, but I will save the gist for next time.’He shrugged. ‘Right. He brings the girl home and keeps the gist to himself. Would you guys be having another date, or are you keeping that a secret too?’‘No, we aren’t having another date yet. I still need to win her heart, or better yet, prove to her that I am not just back for the kids but for her too. This is where I need yo
Kyle KingEstella’s suggestion was the perfect idea. The kids ended up eating everything, and I couldn't help but laugh at how they rushed through the meal. I guess it’s been a long time since they had a delicious pasta meal. Once they were done, they helped with clearing the dishes and changing the tablecloth to a new one. I was amazed with their organisation and meticulous skills. Tessa had raised them well. Without me.I felt a pang in my chest, but I quickly shook it off. I was here now, and that was all that mattered. I helped them arrange the tablecloth properly and ushered them to the parlour to watch some cartoons while I focused on dishwashing and preparing Tessa’s favourite. Glancing at the wall clock, I realised I had like three hours to do everything before she showed up. That was enough time. The kids would probably be asleep by that time, or they might join us for dinner. If Tessa’s mood was great,.I hadn’t stopped to think about how she would feel once she realised wha
Geneveive Tessa RobertI spent the weekend explaining to the twins why Kyle wouldn’t be repeating his visit. I didn’t want them to become attached to him. As much as I enjoyed his surprise visit and incredible dinner, I wasn't about to dissolve my coldness towards him. He made promises before, and guess what? He ruined it with a divorce paper and a denial of what he felt for me.I am sorry, but I don't forgive and forget easily. He had changed obviously, but I couldn't just accept fully that he was here for me and not because I wasn’t the barren woman anymore. Everything in me wanted to believe him, but there was still that doubt lurking in my bones. What if everything was a ploy? You know? You show up, pretend like you’re a repentant soul, and when the lady falls fully, you take the kids and even her wealth! Kyle could do something like that. He wasn’t above tricking people to get what he wanted, or revenge. I picked up the flowers that James had dropped earlier today on the kitchen
Kyle KingI watched as Vera and Murphy took their vows while Tessa and the train of bridesmaids smiled widely. I noticed Tessa throw a few glances at me, and I could read what she was thinking. Our massive wedding in St. Catherine’s Cathedral The vows and smiles. She had been thrilled years ago, even when her parents refused to attend the wedding. She wasn’t bothered because I made sure she didn’t feel lonely. My mom and one of her distant uncles had stood by our sides, and the proceedings had been exciting.I could remember that the media had talked about it for months, and we had been the most trending couple. I didn’t do well with her. That was certain. I glanced at her again. Her eyes were red. Damn. Whatever she was thinking about must be hurtful. It’s you.My phone vibrated. A messag
Geneveive Tessa RobertI strolled into the office smiling and complemented some of the employees who were hanging around. They raised eyebrows, and I could see the questions in their replies. They must be wondering what was going on with me.I couldn’t explain why I woke up feeling excited and relaxed. I had gone through the list of items that could be the cause. I had given up until a text message greeted me as I stepped out of the vehicle. Kyle. He had sent his fourth poem this week. An apology poem, and he had included a line from my favourite poem by Rudyard Kipling. As a smile formed on my face, I realized he was the reason why I had woken up excited. Even though I had tried to chase him away during Vera’s wedding, he still remained. So, I decided to play it cool, and we went on a friendly outing with the kids, which ende
Kyle KingA new day has come. I whistled to myself as I reviewed the slides for the business plan I was working on to purchase Planet O. The rumour about the giant company collapsing had returned true, and according to my mom, purchasing them at this point was the right financial decision.D.K Company had been my one sure ticket to hit the under-40 billionaire list, but due to my mistakes and love, I left it for Tessa. It had been a losing battle, and none of the shareholders were open to giving me a chance to explain myself. If it had been another partner who was trying to play smart, I would have fought with everything I had within me, but it was Tessa. Letting go was easy. The Gomez family was relocating to Spain after losing a major deal with the government. Christopher had been in charge, but something happened along the line, and the deal hit the rocks. This is the sixt
Geneveive Tessa RobertSunlight shone through the window as I rose up from bed. It was Saturday. A day when I didn’t have to be at work but was at home with the kids and enjoyed quality time. I jumped out of bed, strolled into the shower, and spent one hour enjoying the coolness of the water.Kyle King had finally become a regular visitor in the house, but I had yet to introduce him to the kids as their dad. I still needed time to process what he really wanted, and he seemed ready to wait, and I was appreciative of that fact. I slid into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. My red hair needed a nice hair treatment, and I had been putting it on hold for awhile. Maybe I could do a short wave and change to a blond look or blue curls. It will fit my symmetrical face.
Geneveive Tessa RobertRain. The silent drips remind me of the third time I went on a date with Kyle King. I had just gotten off of a call from mom. Another disagreement on the choice of man I was planning to spend the rest of my life with. He had listened as I rattled about my parents and how controlling they could be. Back then, I hated James, and I blamed their attitude on him. The next thing he did had never left me till this day. He stood up, kneel before me, and brought out a ring. We were married the next weekend.‘I have told you to stop dwelling on the past. It won’t change anything, Tessa.’ Vera said, handing me a cup of steaming tea.I smiled, taking the cup. ‘Thank you, Vera. You’re the best clairvoyant that I know in the world. I was just reminiscing about the few happy memories I had in the past. That’s
