Chapter 27

“You really love Leo and couldn’t bear betraying him. I will have to send you to hell so you wait for him. Don’t worry; in just less than an hour, he will be there with you…” Chan laughed evilly, and my body paralyzed with horror.

I tried to talk. To beg for my life, but my lips could only move with no word coming out. The sound of the gun getting cocked made my throat hitch as my life flashed in front of me.

“I won’t betray…you…Please don’t…”

“That is a lie. And besides, you know a lot of my secrets. Keeping you is a risk!”

That was the last thing I heard before a gunshot.

But I wasn’t dead. I didn’t feel any bullet; instead, someone fell dead. Then the sound came again and again from an angle I couldn’t tell because I was struck with terror at these sounds.

All I knew was that someone well trained had appeared from inside this house and killed these men. Jaden’s father was the last. He couldn’t even fire two shots before he was brought down.

From a corner, a young woman I had never seen stepped out.

I scrubbed my eyes, wondering if this was an illusion from fear. My front door was locked as soon as Jaden’s father and his men walked in. So how did she enter?

Or was she hiding in here beforehand?

“Hi, you saved my life. How did you?”

“I didn’t save your life, bitch!” She snapped, hurrying to Leo, who was now unconscious.

“Let us take him to the hospital. He may die if…”

“I thought he was dating you? I fucking thought he loved you, and you did the same too!” She yelled, her eyes burning in fury and disdain as they peered into my face.

“Yes…yes…yes…”

“Oh, but it doesn’t seem like you love him at all. I fucking saw you take the antidote and left him to die! You poisoned him and were going to offer him to these people!”

My lips clamped shut, and my eyes widened as I stared at the strange woman who looked well-trained, like an assassin, in her black top and jacket. The way she killed these men was like a professional.

But what had left me awestruck was how she entered here without me knowing. She had been here before Leo arrived, so she saw and heard everything.

“Who are you?” I shakily asked, falling to my knees because she was looking like a lioness that would devour me in the next second.

I could read the emotions in her eyes. If I had been close to the door, I would have run away to save my life. I have never met her before, but I could swear she was obsessed with Leo. She was really in love with him, and I had just triggered the demon in her.

“My name is Zena. And Leo is my colleague. We are both in the same mafia gang, and I love him. If I weren’t here, you would offer him to his death, and I won’t ever see him again. Fuck it! Why did you do that? What was the deal?”

Her voice was filled with venom, and those eyes were like a dagger to my chest.

“I…I…” My lips quivered, both of my hands raised up in the air as I knelt before her. She pointed her gun at my head.

“I was always going to be the one to kill you. And now I have no choice but to do it now unless you have a way to save his life immediately.” She snarled, and I nodded frantically.

“Yes, let's take him to the hospital.”

“Hospital?” She scoffed and hissed. “That means you took all the antidotes for yourself. You don't deserve to live. Go to hell!”

That was the last thing I heard before she pulled the trigger.

Leo's POV

“Did you kill him?” Her voice was trembling, and those eyes peered at me with fear. Pure fear that made me feel she could see who I was through my eyes.

“No, I didn’t.” I replied, folding my hand on my chest as I rested on the desk watching her stand quite far away from me.

It all happened yesterday, and the news had spread like wildfire all over the school, becoming the trending story of the day. A lot of investigation is going on to find the killers, but our mafia gang is known for wiping out all sorts of evidence.

“What about Helen? You hated her. I could see the anger in your face when you received that text from her asking you to come over or she would break up. Leo, did you…”

“I didn’t. Even though I would have if she were still alive.” A heavy sigh slipped my lips as I recalled all that happened yesterday. The pain hadn’t left, but I forced myself to go to school today just so I wouldn’t be seen as a suspect.

Zena did well to get an antidote for me and gave me lots of pain relievers to help me recover fast. My stomach still hurts, and it was quite difficult to talk, but Diane was someone I couldn’t help explaining everything to.

Last night would have been my last day on earth, or rather, the day everything about me would change. I wasn’t going to be kept alive either way, and my death would have come in the most gruesome way.

Helen betrayed me. She was going to turn me over to him for a reason I couldn’t think of. I thought she was in love with me and would bear hurting me. Zena did the right thing to blast her skull.

“What are you thinking about? Are you lying to me?” Diane walked closer, tears in her eyes. “A lot of people are dying, and they are people that have relationships with us. People on our bad sides! It won’t take time before we are caught. I can feel it.”

The tears rolled down her cheeks, and she tried wiping them off, but it wouldn’t stop.

“I didn’t kill either Jaden’s father or Helen, but… the person who saved me did it. I was going to be kidnapped by Jaden’s father yesterday, and guess who poisoned me and offered me to him… Helen.” I scoffed and shook my head.

“Who was that? You saved you? And do you mean that message from Helen was a trap?” She gasped, her brows arching.

“Yes, it was a trap. I don’t want to talk about this here. I am afraid the walls may have ears.” I sighed and closed the gap between us. “Whatever happens, I want you to know I love you. I wake up every day with you on my mind and my dreams filled with sweet memories of us. I…”

A knock cut through, and we both detached from each other.

“Who is there?” I asked aloud, and Sofia responded from behind.

I opened the door, and she let out a smile, looking up at me with a book held over her chest.

“May I come in?” She asked, her eyes filled with admiration as they gazed at my face.

“Erm…I…”

“Hey Sofia…” Diane’s voice chimed in from inside, and I could see the whole smile on her face vanish for a second, the twinkle in her eyes dimming immediately.

“Ohhh…” she forced out a smile as I allowed her in. “I came to show him a difficult math question I came across while reading. I didn’t know you were here. You told me you were going to use the restroom.”

They both laughed and held hands like friends, but I could easily notice Sofia wasn’t happy at all.
