“He won’t agree. I love him, but he doesn’t love me the same way.” I sighed, feeling the heaviness in my heart.

“Then find a fucking way! He still wants you to be his girlfriend as a shield over his secret romance with Diane, so why not use a breakup to threaten him? Tell him to visit you or you will end it all!” He snapped at me, and I swallowed hard, pondering if I should do this.

With Jaden’s father's tone, I could swear he would kill Leo if he got hold of him.

“Leo didn’t kill your son. That is the last thing he can do. He may look cold and mean, but he isn’t so bad as to gun them down as you claimed. Even if he probably did, the evidence will show up soon. Why not allow the cops to…”

“I just sent you your half payment for the job. When you’re done, you won’t only be paid the rest but also become the school proprietor. I know how much you wanted that position.” He said, and it was like he snapped my mouth shut as I couldn’t talk anymore and checked my phone.

I screamed as I saw a million-dollar credit alert in my bank.

“One of my men will send you a poison that will paralyze him. I know he won’t trust you to drink whatever you offer him, so we will give you the antidote. Take a sip of his wine so he will believe you didn’t add anything. Then use the antidote for yourself.” He explained sternly.

“Okay…” I mumbled, and he hung up the call. A few minutes later, a knock sounded on my door. I opened the door, and it was the person with the poison in a small container and the antidote.

“Don’t make any mistakes!” He whispered before leaving.

The school bell rang for closure, and as usual, Leo didn’t even care to check on me.

I sent him a text to visit me at my house at 8 pm, but he instantly came up with an excuse that he would be going to see his mother.

“If you don’t come, I am breaking up, and I’ll make it public!”

“What?”

“Yes, you heard me right!” I texted back, and he suddenly agreed.

Jaden’s father was right.

His call came in later, and he was so berserk!

“How could you say such a thing?! We can fix another date! How will you threaten to break up publicly?" He flared, his voice filled with pure rage.

I didn’t say anything but hung up. My heart was made up to help Jaden’s father get hold of him. All he do is lie to my face without loving me at all.

I hurried home to get everything ready for his visit. At exactly 8pm, he showed up. This was the first time he would step his foot here after disappointing me so many times we fixed a meetup here.

Sadly this one time would be the first and last. I would end up betraying him, but he brought this on himself.

He should have loved me. He should have chosen me over that stupid girl Diane. That would have made me decline Jaden’s father's offer, but now I would gladly poison him and hand him over.

“Hi…” I smiled sweetly as I opened the door for him. His face was stern at first before he forced out a smile.

“I told you I had been occupied these days. That's why I don’t visit or spend time with you. My mother's health issues are also a pain in my skin.” He sighed, walking in.

“I couldn’t bear it anymore. I am in love with you, and every time you are always distant. It was hard to bear. I am so happy you could make it here today. I am sorry for the threat earlier.” I grinned, kissing him. He carried me up with laughter as we entered the sitting room.

“It is alright. Sorry for the way I responded. Are you the one cooking all that in the kitchen?” He asked, and I nodded.

“It is done already. I made it for us.”

“Oh, sadly, I am filled.” He sighed.

“Then we can enjoy the wine together.” I said, pointing at the two glass cups of wine I had set on the dining table.

“To remove all doubt, I will have a sip of both. Just in case you have any second thoughts.” I added as I saw his raised brows at the wine.

I sipped it and he chuckled. “You don’t need to do that. We are dating and I trust you.” He shrugged with a little laugh before settling down.

My heart was pounded so fast as I watched him raise the glass up to his face and gulped a mouthful.

I shut my eyes and took a deep breath before taking out the antidote in my dress quickly and swallowed the pills.

He saw what I did, and his eyes widened.

“Is that an anti…” He couldn’t finish his statement as a sharp scream cut through his lips, his hand holding his stomach tight.

He let out a bloodcurdling cry that sent chills down my spine as I stood frozen watching him writhe and fight for his life.

His eyes landed on me, bloodshot and filled with agony, leaving me shivering as my heart grew heavy inside my chest.

“Why…” he groaned, crawling on the floor as thick blood spilled from his mouth.

My blood ran cold, tears rolling down my cheeks as I instantly regretted what I did. I could feel my soul getting crushed at seeing him in such a condition. I betrayed his trust. I poisoned him when he trusted me.

What if he is killed? Would I be able to forgive myself? What the hell was I thinking? Offering the only man I had fallen in love with out of jealousy and greed.

“Argh! I am dying!” His voice was gradually fading, the depth of his anguish clearly felt in my soul, and I rushed at him, carrying him in my arms and tugging at him to wake.

He was shutting his eyes, and that was killing me from the inside. What if Jaden's father lied that he would be paralyzed when the poison would simply kill him?

His breath was labored, and his body was shaking hard, more blood pouring out of his mouth.

“Please stay strong. I will call the ambulance right away!” I screamed, dropping him gently and running over to the counter where my purse was. But just then the door burst open.

Three men and Jaden’s father walked in.

“Why didn’t you call us? What were you trying to do? I said, "Call me when you…”

“Leave him alone! I will return your money! I don’t want…”

“It is too late now! Get out of the way!” He scoffed and yanked me out since I was blocking them with my body.

I stumbled and almost hit my head on the door.

They all stomped in, and an uproar of victory followed. I picked up my phone, but just before I could dial anything, one of the men snatched it from me and pulled me by the hair back to the sitting room.

“Who were you trying to call? I can see you are no longer on my side! You want to betray Mr. Chan? Have you not heard of the fate of whoever does that?” His eyes were red as they glared at me.

“I am no longer interested in your deal!” I cried with guilt overwhelming me as I saw them tying up Leo like an animal.

“Oh, I see. So there is no need to keep you alive since you’re useless now!” He snorted, and before I could understand what he meant, he brought out a pistol and pointed it at my head.
