Chapter 10

I heard someone calling for me as I slowly opened my eyes. The room was filled with people, and Nolan stood across from me. It was my mother who had called my name.

As soon as I woke up, I instinctively reached for my belly. My mom's eyes reddened at the sight.

"Is the baby… gone?" I asked, my voice trembling.

No one answered me, but Nolan finally nodded after a long pause.

"Yvette, we can still have—"

Smack!

My father's slap cut Nolan off. Albert, who was standing nearby, didn't hold my father back at all.

The baby was gone, and my heart felt like it had been torn apart.

I stared at Nolan, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Mom, Dad, I'd like to talk to Nolan alone."

As they left, my mother handed me the divorce agreement. Nolan's eyes were fixed on the papers in my hand.

When we were finally alone, he stepped forward. He grabbed my hand and begged for forgiveness.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Yvette. It's all my fault. I should have protected you and our baby!"
