Chapter 4

Before anything else, I needed to make a trip to the Garrisons' estate.

Albert was frowning deeply in his study.

"Yvette, you know that I will stand up for you if you've been wronged," he started. "However, divorce isn't a small matter. The Garrisons and Sullivans are closely tied together."

Each of Albert's words felt like a hammer pounding against my heart. I understood what he meant, but I couldn't go on any longer.

"Grandpa, I've made up my mind," I said firmly, my voice echoing through the study.

I looked him straight in the eyes, no longer speaking to him as his granddaughter-in-law at this moment.

"Even after the divorce, the relationship between our families will remain intact. I am the only daughter of the Sullivans, and they want me to be happy."

I wasn't asking for Albert's permission for the divorce—this was merely out of respect for him as an elder.

Albert was silent for a long time before he finally spoke, "Yvette, we've wronged you. I agree with the divorce.
