Chapter 29: Second Evidence

Evelyn’s POV

I could hardly believe my eyes.

The only thing that could prove my innocence had turned to ashes right in front of me!

I quickly looked up at the soldier—did he do it on purpose? Or was it an accident?

And just as I looked up, I caught the soldier nodding slightly toward Leah.

So, he was indeed Leah’s man! He helped her destroy my evidence!

“You did that on purpose!” I clenched my fists and glared at the soldier, “What did Leah offer you to help her like this?”

The soldier immediately dropped to one knee, “Miss Leah has nothing to do with this, it was my own mistake.”

I felt both frustrated and angry.

But no matter what, there was no way to piece back together the evidence that had already been burned.

In an instant, the situation turned against me again.

“You can stand up, no one will blame you for an unintentional mistake,” Leah said in a sing-song voice. I could sense how pleased she was. “A second test would just be a waste of time anyway.”
