Chapter 27: Swapped Candles

Evelyn’s POV

"But... how is that possible?" I gasped in shock. "That candle must be poisoned! I only started feeling sick after Roman brought it into my room!"

"I know. But the test result says that the candle is safe—it's just a regular scented candle."

"Maybe there’s something wrong with the testing agency? Maybe those people fake the results?" I asked.

Trent’s voice remained serious, "I don’t think so. Alpha Asher chose the testing agency himself, one he trusts. His soldiers were stationed there the whole time just to make sure that the result is accurate."

So the people testing the candle were reliable.

I bit my lip, thinking anxiously.

That left only one possibility: The candle itself was swapped.

Now that I think back, neither Asher nor I noticed when Roman left the room to inform Leah. It’s possible that while Asher was busy giving me CPR, Roman swapped the toxic candle with a harmless one!
