Chapter 2: My Miscarriage

Evelyn’s POV

The pain felt like it was tearing my body in two. I clutched my chest and struggled to breathe.

“Don’t pretend to faint. I’m not falling for it,” Tristan said coldly.

“Why would you do this?” I asked in a broken voice, “We are mates…Tristan!”

“All we have is mate-bond! I don’t want to trap in a loveless marriage!” Tristan snapped, “If you refuse to divorce, I’ll expel you!”

I stared at him in disbelief.

When we mated, I left my birth pack, Emerald Howl Pack, and married into Blazewood Pack. So if he expels me now, I’ll be a wolf without a pack—a rogue.

He was cruel enough to do this to me.

“But before I kick you out, you need to hand over all the files related to Carnival City,” Tristan said coldly. “I’ve decided to let Leah take charge of the project. She just joined Blazewood Pack and needs some credits.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

I poured my heart and soul into this project, and now, just as it was about to succeed, Leah was going to steal the fruits of my labor?

“No…Tristan, don’t do this to me…” I sobbed, tears streaming down my face.

He remained indifferent, “It’s non-negotiable. The sooner you leave, the sooner we can both move on. It’s good for both of us.”

But I don’t want to move on.

Our marriage was blessed by the Moon Goddess. And I loved him.

“I’ll give you one night to pack.” Tristan said in a firm voice, “Tomorrow morning, sign the divorce paper, hand over the files and leave before CEO Jason gets here.”

And with that, he thrown me out of the hall crudely.

As I was dragging away by the guards, Tristan took Leah’s hands and started introducing her to the guests, as though I was already the ancient history.

Just in one day, I lost my job, my child, my marriage.

All because of that woman Leah.

I got back to my room and cried for an hour before picking up my phone again.

I needed to tell CEO Jason about the possible change related to Leah.

Jason sounded surprised that Leah was going to replace me, and he was reluctant to work with a woman he didn’t know of. I asked him to come here as scheduled so that we could work this out in person. He agreed.

Few minutes after I got off the phone with Jason, my phone rang again.

Surprisingly, it was Haley, my best friend from college.

“Evelyn!”

“Haley!” I cried excitedly. It had been a while since I last talked to her. “My god…How are you?”

“I’m good! Just really miss you.” She giggled, “Hey I just heard that you are doing business with a company in Storm Fang Pack. Is that true?”

“Yes. But how did you know that?”

“My brother told me. And I also heard that someone woman is going to replace you as CEO! What’s going on? Are you alright?”

Haley’s brother was no other but the legendary Alpha Asher Hawthorne. I was surprised that such a small thing could make its way into his ears.

“That’s true as well. Because…” I tried to say it in a careless way. But I failed. “…Tristan is leaving me. Leah is his mistress.”

“WHAT?! That jerk!!” she cried furiously, “You can’t give up everything without a fight! At least not your project! You worked so hard for this!”

“I know. But it’s so hard…seeing Tristan’s cold face and everything,” I choked.

“Hang in there, girl. I’ll see what I can do to help.” she said firmly before hanging up.

It felt good to be comforted by a good friend.

And it made me wonder—maybe I shouldn’t leave without a fight. I needed to be strong for my marriage and career.

So I got off bed and went to talk to Tristan. The love can’t be all gone.

When I left my bedroom, I found a note lying by the door.

Things don’t have to end this way. Meet me at the back hill, Evie.

My heart skipped a beat.

The note wasn’t signed, but only Tristan called me Evie!

He loved to use this nickname in bed, whispering Evie again and again in my ears while pounding me like a beast. He would look deep into my eyes, worshipping me, like I was his goddess.

…Maybe he wants to apologize?

Maybe there’s still a chance between us!

Clutching the note tightly, I quietly slipped out of the packhouse.

The back hill was shrouded in darkness, the moon hidden behind clouds. I had to look hard to make out the path beneath my feet.

Tristan didn’t specify where to meet, but as soon as I entered the woods, I could smell his scent.

I finally stopped at a clearing in the woods.

Tristan’s scent was strong, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Only his jacket lay on the ground.

"...Tristan?" I called.

The next second, someone struck me hard from behind.

I dropped to the ground at once, unconscious.

...

When I woke up, I found myself lying at the bottom of a deep pit, my fours tied up.

My head hurt, I felt weak all over, like I had inhaled too much wolfsbane.

A voice came from above:

"You’re awake?"

I struggled to lift my head and saw Leah standing at the edge of the pit, holding a shovel.

She smiled down at me, "Don’t worry, you’ll be asleep soon...Forever."

She shoveled a load of dirt down onto my face.

Leah was going to bury me alive?!!

"Where’s Tristan?!!!" I cried in despair, coughing as dirt fell into my mouth.

"There is no Tristan. I wrote the note." Leah giggled. "You being alive poses too much threat to my position."

"This is MURDER!" I struggled and shouted, "When Tristan finds out, he will make you pay!!!"

But Leah suddenly burst into laughter.

"Tristan doesn’t give a shit about you!" She giggled, "If you go missing, he will only be happy."

"LIE—!"

"Let me tell you a little secret to prove my point. Remember the child you lost? It wasn’t a miscarriage."

A chill ran through me. I stared up at her in horror, “…What?”

Leah leaned down, looking at me with a smug smile.

"3 years ago, because of my parents, I had to send Roman to Tristan. But you happened to be pregnant. So I got really worried: If a woman already has her own child, how could she be nice to her husband’s bastard kid? I told Tristan about my concern, and do you know what he said?"

I stared at her in horror, my mind froze.

"Tristan said, ‘Just get rid of her baby, problem solved.’ "

Leah laughed out heartily.

"He put wolfsbane in your drink, and your child slipped right out. After that, he brought Roman back. And just as I thought, you doted on Roman. Now, do you still think Tristan loves you?"
