Evelyn’s POV
The pain felt like it was tearing my body in two. I clutched my chest and struggled to breathe.
“Don’t pretend to faint. I’m not falling for it,” Tristan said coldly.
“Why would you do this?” I asked in a broken voice, “We are mates…Tristan!”
“All we have is mate-bond! I don’t want to trap in a loveless marriage!” Tristan snapped, “If you refuse to divorce, I’ll expel you!”
I stared at him in disbelief.
When we mated, I left my birth pack, Emerald Howl Pack, and married into Blazewood Pack. So if he expels me now, I’ll be a wolf without a pack—a rogue.
He was cruel enough to do this to me.
“But before I kick you out, you need to hand over all the files related to Carnival City,” Tristan said coldly. “I’ve decided to let Leah take charge of the project. She just joined Blazewood Pack and needs some credits.”
I stared at him in disbelief.
I poured my heart and soul into this project, and now, just as it was about to succeed, Leah was going to steal the fruits of my labor?
“No…Tristan, don’t do this to me…” I sobbed, tears streaming down my face.
He remained indifferent, “It’s non-negotiable. The sooner you leave, the sooner we can both move on. It’s good for both of us.”
But I don’t want to move on.
Our marriage was blessed by the Moon Goddess. And I loved him.
“I’ll give you one night to pack.” Tristan said in a firm voice, “Tomorrow morning, sign the divorce paper, hand over the files and leave before CEO Jason gets here.”
And with that, he thrown me out of the hall crudely.
As I was dragging away by the guards, Tristan took Leah’s hands and started introducing her to the guests, as though I was already the ancient history.
Just in one day, I lost my job, my child, my marriage.
All because of that woman Leah.
I got back to my room and cried for an hour before picking up my phone again.
I needed to tell CEO Jason about the possible change related to Leah.
Jason sounded surprised that Leah was going to replace me, and he was reluctant to work with a woman he didn’t know of. I asked him to come here as scheduled so that we could work this out in person. He agreed.
Few minutes after I got off the phone with Jason, my phone rang again.
Surprisingly, it was Haley, my best friend from college.
“Evelyn!”
“Haley!” I cried excitedly. It had been a while since I last talked to her. “My god…How are you?”
“I’m good! Just really miss you.” She giggled, “Hey I just heard that you are doing business with a company in Storm Fang Pack. Is that true?”
“Yes. But how did you know that?”
“My brother told me. And I also heard that someone woman is going to replace you as CEO! What’s going on? Are you alright?”
Haley’s brother was no other but the legendary Alpha Asher Hawthorne. I was surprised that such a small thing could make its way into his ears.
“That’s true as well. Because…” I tried to say it in a careless way. But I failed. “…Tristan is leaving me. Leah is his mistress.”
“WHAT?! That jerk!!” she cried furiously, “You can’t give up everything without a fight! At least not your project! You worked so hard for this!”
“I know. But it’s so hard…seeing Tristan’s cold face and everything,” I choked.
“Hang in there, girl. I’ll see what I can do to help.” she said firmly before hanging up.
It felt good to be comforted by a good friend.
And it made me wonder—maybe I shouldn’t leave without a fight. I needed to be strong for my marriage and career.
So I got off bed and went to talk to Tristan. The love can’t be all gone.
When I left my bedroom, I found a note lying by the door.
Things don’t have to end this way. Meet me at the back hill, Evie.
My heart skipped a beat.
The note wasn’t signed, but only Tristan called me Evie!
He loved to use this nickname in bed, whispering Evie again and again in my ears while pounding me like a beast. He would look deep into my eyes, worshipping me, like I was his goddess.
…Maybe he wants to apologize?
Maybe there’s still a chance between us!
Clutching the note tightly, I quietly slipped out of the packhouse.
The back hill was shrouded in darkness, the moon hidden behind clouds. I had to look hard to make out the path beneath my feet.
Tristan didn’t specify where to meet, but as soon as I entered the woods, I could smell his scent.
I finally stopped at a clearing in the woods.
Tristan’s scent was strong, but he was nowhere to be seen.
Only his jacket lay on the ground.
"...Tristan?" I called.
The next second, someone struck me hard from behind.
I dropped to the ground at once, unconscious.
...
When I woke up, I found myself lying at the bottom of a deep pit, my fours tied up.
My head hurt, I felt weak all over, like I had inhaled too much wolfsbane.
A voice came from above:
"You’re awake?"
I struggled to lift my head and saw Leah standing at the edge of the pit, holding a shovel.
She smiled down at me, "Don’t worry, you’ll be asleep soon...Forever."
She shoveled a load of dirt down onto my face.
Leah was going to bury me alive?!!
"Where’s Tristan?!!!" I cried in despair, coughing as dirt fell into my mouth.
"There is no Tristan. I wrote the note." Leah giggled. "You being alive poses too much threat to my position."
"This is MURDER!" I struggled and shouted, "When Tristan finds out, he will make you pay!!!"
But Leah suddenly burst into laughter.
"Tristan doesn’t give a shit about you!" She giggled, "If you go missing, he will only be happy."
"LIE—!"
"Let me tell you a little secret to prove my point. Remember the child you lost? It wasn’t a miscarriage."
A chill ran through me. I stared up at her in horror, “…What?”
Leah leaned down, looking at me with a smug smile.
"3 years ago, because of my parents, I had to send Roman to Tristan. But you happened to be pregnant. So I got really worried: If a woman already has her own child, how could she be nice to her husband’s bastard kid? I told Tristan about my concern, and do you know what he said?"
I stared at her in horror, my mind froze.
"Tristan said, ‘Just get rid of her baby, problem solved.’ "
Leah laughed out heartily.
"He put wolfsbane in your drink, and your child slipped right out. After that, he brought Roman back. And just as I thought, you doted on Roman. Now, do you still think Tristan loves you?"
Evelyn's POVMy child... only six-month-old…THEY KILLED HIM!!All because Leah wanted me to raise Roman!!!I screamed and struggled desperately. The agony almost tore my soul apart.“No…NO!!” I cried, tears and dirt mixing into mud on my face. “My child…my baby!!!”Yet Leah laughed even harder.“You will have your karma!” I choked out through my sobs. “You have no idea how to run a pack. When you mess up everything, the furious members will tear you apart!”Leah giggled, “With my help, Blazewood Pack will only thrive! You stupid bitch, do you even know who I am? I’m the daughter of the Alpha of Ironclaw Pack!”My eyes widened in shock.Ironclaw Pack was a very powerful pack.It wasn’t like Alpha Asher’s Storm Fang Pack, but it was still formidable enough.I didn’t know Leah had such a powerful family.“Compared to me, you are nothing,” Leah giggled. The cold earth continued to fall on me, gradually covering my head.Leah’s voice came again, sounding a bit muffled:“…Tristan and I will
Evelyn’s POVA round of surprised gasps broke out from the crowd.Alpha Asher…What was he doing here?!He was the Alpha of Storm Fang Pack, a huge business tycoon. There were hundreds of thousands of companies in his pack. The Carnival City Project was huge to us, but nothing to him.Why would he show up here today?“Alpha Asher heard about our project and was really interested in it,” Jason explained to Tristan. “So if you agree, the Hawthorne Enterprise will replace me and become your new partner.”Tristan inhaled sharply, and so did every elder behind his back.“Of course, I agree! This is our honor to work with you!!!” Tristan gasped out in joy. “Let’s go inside, Alpha Asher. I’ve had refreshment prepared—”“Wait.”Asher interrupted in a chilling voice, “Where’s Evelyn? Jason said she is in charge of this project.”There was a short, tensed silence. and then Tristan forced a smile.“Actually…there’s been a change. Leah will replace Evelyn as the leader of this project now.” Tristan
Evelyn’s POV“B-buried alive?” Tristan cried, “What the hell are you talking about?!”Leah sucked in a sharp breath and shrieked, “Don’t listen to her Tristan! She is crazy—”“I didn’t mean to disappear!” I cut her off, “Your mistress forged your handwriting, lured me to the back hill, and buried me alive! If it weren’t for the heavy rain last night, I’d already be dead!”“…What?” Tristan murmured. All the elders gasped in shock, looking at Leah in horror.A shadow flickered across Leah’s face before she burst into tears again:“This is ridiculous! Tristan, you know I can’t even hurt a little bird. Evelyn… she’s clearly making this up!”“We can go to the back hill right now! The pit you dug is still there!” I cried, my voice trembling. “And I still have the note from last night! Tristan, look at this! Did you write this?”I pulled out the note and handed it to Tristan. Leah struggled fiercely, desperately trying to stop me in a panic, but Tristan had already taken it. “This is strang
Evelyn's POVI stared at him in shock. He met my gaze and added with a smile, "In return, I'll help you get back at your ex-husband and his mistress. I know you hate their betrayal."“Are you drunk right now?” I couldn’t help but ask in disbelief, “You want me to be your Luna? We barely know each other!”He wasn’t offended by my rudeness.Instead, a glint of amusement flashed in his green eyes."I've never been more sober," he smiled. "I’m 28 years old, I need a wife, and Storm Fang Pack needs a Luna."That made sense. But..."Why me?" I asked, baffled. "You could choose any woman in the world. Nobody would be stupid enough to reject you. And aren’t you going to wait for your mate?"His deep eyes bore into mine, "Not everyone finds their mate. And I think you're better than anyone else."His straightforwardness made me blush.Elin howled with excitement. I had to shush her in my mind.Asher continued, "You’re smart, beautiful, and have a sharp business mind. Come to Storm Fang Pack. Yo
Evelyn’s POVThen Tristan started striding over to us.Within seconds, he was in our way.“Can I see you for a second, Evelyn?” he asked stiffly. My eyes traveled to Leah. She was watching us with a bitter expression. It was precious.“OK.” I turned to give Asher a soft smile, “See you later, Alpha Asher.”Asher picked up my hand and left a peck on the back of it.“Looking forward to your speech,” he replied deeply.Tristan’s eyes were burning with jealousy. He turned sharply and walked away. I followed behind his back. As soon as we were alone, he fired away immediately:“What did you and Alpha Asher talk about? Why did he kiss you?!!”I wasn’t going to tell him about the Luna contract.“He was worried about Leah’s qualification. As for that kiss…he was only being polite,” I said aloofly.Tristan let out a sigh of relief, “Oh. Tell him that there’s nothing to worry about. The transition will be very smoothly. Nothing will influence our collaboration.”He paused and gave me a disapprov
Evelyn’s POVI nodded weakly.Asher’s scent eased my pain. I secretly took another deep inhale.“Why are you still helping her, Alpha Asher? This woman is a backstabbing bitch!” Leah loudly cried, “She wants to get a scoop of our profit! Isn’t that ridiculous? You must be furious!”Tristan glared at me, breathing fast, “That’ll never happen. So don’t worry about this Alpha Asher. Blazewood Pack will be your only partner…”“I agree with Emerald Howl Pack joining.”“What?!” Tristan gasped in shock, and so did many others.“You heard me. I want her pack on board. And I want her as CEO.” Asher said, loud and clear.Tristan opened his mouth, looking at Asher in shock. He definitely didn’t expect Asher to be on my side.Even I was a little shocked.Me as CEO? I never dreamed about that.“Alpha Asher, are you serious right now?!” Leah cried indignantly, “Evelyn contributed nothing to this project! Why does she get to take a share of our profit?”“This project only exists because of her. The o
Evelyn’s POVTreason?I couldn’t believe what I just heard.“I’ve been nothing but a dutiful Luna! So tell me. How exactly did I commit treason?”Leah lifted his head, looking self-righteous, “You used Blazewood Pack’s resources to develop the Carnival City project, only to turn around and hand it over to your homeland. If that’s not treason, what is?”“And you agree with this, Tristan?” I snapped.Tristan held Leah in his arms and gave me a sullen look, “You did betray this pack when you tried to bring Emerald Howl Pack on board.”My heart almost got split in half by pain. How could he talk about betrayal?“Fine, then let’s take this to court then. Summon all the elders!” I gritted.Leah clearly hadn’t expected me to be so cooperative. Her face lit up with excitement.“Alright! But if you get convicted in court, you’ll be tossed into prison and rot there!” she said, gloating.Tristan frowned at me, “Just hand over the files and tell Alpha Asher you’ll drop out from the project. Nobod
Evelyn's POV“How did we bully you?” I asked angrily, “Let me remind you that it was you who barged into my room this morning. You even slapped my maid!”Leah hid behind Tristan’s back, sobbing into his shoulders, “Managing Blazewood’s project is my right as Tristan’s future Luna! But you don’t even let me do that. If that’s not bully, what is?”“We went through this! Carnival City isn’t Blazewood’s project!”But Leah’s wailing suddenly became louder and drowned out my voice.“Look at how tough she is, Tristan!” she choked in a breaking voice, “She has Alpha Asher’s support. She can walk all over me now. What am I going to do, Tristan?”Tristan held her tightly, “I won’t let them do this to you! I got your back, my love!”Then he turned to Asher and gritted:“Alpha Asher, I’m Blazewood Pack’s Alpha, so only I get to decide whether Leah stays or not! And the divorce hasn’t been finalized yet so technically Evelyn is still my wife! Please keep your distance from her!”Asher narrowed his
