Chapter 31: The Cruelest Mother

Evelyn’s POV

Everyone in the hall was struck by a shocked silence. The only sound was Roman’s terrified sobbing.

After a long moment, Tristan finally swallowed and asked in a hoarse voice, "…W-what?"

“No! Tristan! None of it is true!”

Leah suddenly grabbed his hand, shaking it wildly as if trying to shake the horrible things he just heard out of his mind, “Don’t listen to their lies!”

Isolde cried out loudly, “You said Jimmy was lying because we bribed him. What about now? Your own son said the same thing. Surely he can’t be bought by us! So what he said must be the truth!”

Leah dropped to her knees, clutching Tristan’s pants, sobbing, “I don’t know… They must have threatened Roman… There were only vitamins in that bottle…”

Asher chuckled icily and waved the small plastic bottle to Roman.

“Did you hear that, Roman? Your mom is still insisting there are only vitamins in the bottle. Seems like she really doesn’t want us to give you the antidote. Your life means nothing to her,” he said
