Chapter 4: Confront With the Ex

Evelyn’s POV

A round of surprised gasps broke out from the crowd.

Alpha Asher…What was he doing here?!

He was the Alpha of Storm Fang Pack, a huge business tycoon. There were hundreds of thousands of companies in his pack.

The Carnival City Project was huge to us, but nothing to him.

Why would he show up here today?

“Alpha Asher heard about our project and was really interested in it,” Jason explained to Tristan. “So if you agree, the Hawthorne Enterprise will replace me and become your new partner.”

Tristan inhaled sharply, and so did every elder behind his back.

“Of course, I agree! This is our honor to work with you!!!” Tristan gasped out in joy. “Let’s go inside, Alpha Asher. I’ve had refreshment prepared—”

“Wait.”

Asher interrupted in a chilling voice, “Where’s Evelyn? Jason said she is in charge of this project.”

There was a short, tensed silence. and then Tristan forced a smile.

“Actually…there’s been a change. Leah will replace Evelyn as the leader of this project now.” Tristan said, giving Leah a nudge.

Leah stepped forward, her face flushing as she looked at Asher.

“Alpha Asher, I don’t know if you remember me. We met at my father’s party before,” she said shyly.

But Asher ignored her presence.

“So you want your mistress to work with me,” He said freezingly to Tristan. “Are you trying to insult me?”

Leah’s face turned pale. Tristan quickly explained, “I’m divorcing Evelyn! Leah will become my Luna soon. Please give her a chance and you’ll find she is very professional…”

“Professional?” Asher sneered, “Quiz her, Jason.”

Jason nodded and turned to ask Leah, “Miss Leah, What tasks need to be completed in the first phase of the development project?”

Leah froze, her eyes wide in shock.

“W-what?” she stammered.

“Let’s try again. What is the total budget for the casino?”

Leah’s face turned pale, looking like she might faint, “I... I need to check the spreadsheets, or ask the staff...”

“Luna Evelyn never needed to,” Jason said with contempt. “Every time when I asked her for a data in our meeting, she could always answer right away. I don’t think you are fit to lead this project.”

Leah let out a short cry.

Tristan looked as though he just got slapped in the face.

“Bring Luna Evelyn back.” Asher spoke up in a formidable voice. “At tonight’s party, I want her to pitch the project to me. Or the cooperation is off.”

With that, he strode past Tristan and Leah, heading toward the packhouse. Jason and the burly soldiers from Storm Fang Pack followed their Alpha.

I watched them traveling away. Shock still rippled in my heart.

Why would Asher ask for me so forcefully?

The only time I met him was at my graduation ceremony, and he was looking at me with that burning, strange gaze, as if I were a piece of cheesecake with a cherry on top—or his prey.

I was sure he wasn’t a psycho, but I still kept my distance.

Mostly because I knew that, aside from being the world’s strongest Alpha, he was also a huge fuckboy, known for never sleeping with the same girl twice.

I couldn’t afford to get involved with someone like him.

We never met again after that. I thought he had completely forgotten me.

But judging by today…he still remembers.

I looked around and found that everyone had went into the packhouse for tonight’s party. I needed to talk to Tristan. But I wouldn’t be allowed into the door dressed in this dirty rag.

So I rushed back to my room to change.

My maid Mandy helped me choose a silver backless dress that clung to my curves like moonlight. A dazzling diamond necklace laid on my chest, giving a radiant glow.

Mandy styled my hair with pearl hairpins and fresh lilies. The natural floral floated in the air as I walk, smelling was better than any perfume.

“My god, you are so beautiful!” Mandy adjusted the lilies and gasped, “You are going to be the center of attention tonight!”

I looked at my own reflection in the mirror, a little surprised myself.

I used to have many pursuers back in college. And I enjoyed dressing up and looking good in front of people.

But I gave that all up after I married Tristan. Because I want to spend more time on being a good Luna than looking good.

But that did not work out for our marriage.

At roughly 8 o’clock, I left my room and headed to the banquet hall.

Fancily dressed guests were arriving. All of them have heard that Alpha Asher was here and all were eager to meet him.

On the top of the staircase outside of the hall, Tristan, Leah, and all the Blazewood Pack elders stood together, talking anxiously.

Leah and Tristan still wore the same clothes from this afternoon. They look wore out and anxious.

I heard an elder’s voice walking up to them:

“...We need Luna Evelyn. Where is she?”

“I don’t know!” Tristan gritted in fume, “She didn’t sign the divorce paper this morning, nor did she hand over the files! She’s just—GONE!”

Leah burst into tears, “I bet she’s ghosting us on purpose! Because you are in love with me. I am so sorry, Tristan…”

“Don’t you be sorry. It’s all Evelyn’s fault. She just wanted to see us embarrassed.” Tristan quickly comforted her.

“But what should we do now?” an elder asked. “You heard Alpha Asher. He demands her presence!”

Leah blinked innocently, “Maybe Evelyn is afraid of being sued for child abuse and ran away...Let me try again later. I know I can win over Alpha Asher!”

I couldn’t stand it anymore.

So I strode forward and said in a loud voice:

“Really! CAN YOU, LEAH?!”

They jerked around together.

Tristan looked stunned. He stood there, ignoring his mistress, and stared at me. I could see admiration and lust in his eyes.

“…Evelyn you…you look amazing tonight,” he murmured.

I looked at Leah.

Her expression was precious.

It looked as though she just saw a ghost in bright daylight.

“NO!” She cried abruptly, stepping back in fear, “How’s this…possible!”

“Surprise to see me back?”

I gritted and stepped forward to her.

“Burying me alive couldn’t kill me. Sorry to disappoint you, Leah!”
