Unknown POV.
She stood before a large window, over looking the blizzard outside the castle. It was nothing new for the weather to be like that. It was often cold down there. It was one thing she missed about home. The endless warmth of spring that allowed her wear the lightest clothes. Her beautiful sewn clothes had always been one of the latest fashion and accentuated her curves. Unlike the coat she wore at the moment. Ever since coming there, she had been forced to wear thick coats and clothes in order to ward off the cold. No one had forced her, the dreary weather had done that all by itself and she hated it. It was constantly snowing and she missed the warmth is spring back at home. Her red lips curled in a humorless smile. Home. When had she ever had one? If she ever did, it was surely gone now. Everyone back there now saw her as a traitor anyway, and they were not particularly wrong about that. But then again, everyone she remembered bqck then were probably dead anyways. A low chuckle escaped her chapped lips. At least the new ones there would not all know what she looked like. She would use that to her advantage. After all, she was the master of disguise. Already feeling the presence of the soldier long before he actually arrived, she was not taken by surprise in the least when she heard his voice. “The King has ordered for you”, he said simply. She gave a nod, knowing he was waiting for a reply and a moment later, he was gone. She hated bloodsuckers. But she had no choice to endure their presence anyway. As she moved away from the window, another nostalgic thought came to her mind. How she missed the thought of a warm body next to hers. Granted, vampires were not terrible lovers, but it would help greatly if there were not so cold, if there was a warm body to help warm her bed instead of cold ones. It was true that there were other beings other then vampires in the great castle. But all were either prisoners or slaves, and she prided herself of being too highly to reduce herself to layer her with servants. Besides, they all hated her anyway. Another chuckle escaped her at the thought. It would be almost impossible now to find someone who did not hate or despise her for her treachery. But she hadn’t cared about that for a long time. As she walked down the hallway, an image suddenly came to her head. It was the blonde with the white wolf. The apparent descendant of the Royal bloodline. Of Johan. A sinister smile made its way onto her lips at the thought. Now that had been a man. Handsome, warm and powerful. Unfortunately, he had chosen wrong when it came down to deciding whom to end up with. And that had been reason enough for her to turn her back on everything else. And now he was going to be reborn? Another chuckle escaped her as she passed a couple of vampires who stood guard on the halls. She would never allow that happen. Shooting the guards a devious look that had them looking away, she relished in the fear she could smell from them as she walked past. Good. Let them fear her. Then they would not dare to conspire against her. At least not yet. Before long, she arrived at the gigantic doors to the throne room and gave a small nod to one of the vampires that stood guard before it. At her signal, they threw open the doors to usher her in. She walked in, her black coat trailing sensually behind her as she walked. The throne room was grand, but like everywhere else in the castle, cold to the touch. The reason she hadn’t died from a sickness it causes or frozen to death, like many of the prisoners that had been brought there had, was simply because of a spell she had cast upon herself to always keep her warm. The spell was effective enough to do so but not enough to ward off the chill of the place. The King’s throne room was not the most eye catching, but whatever it lacked in splendor, it made up for in size. It was huge with statues at the far edges and drawings on the floor and ceilings. The paintings were the only thing that helped redeem the large room. As expected, the King was seated on his magnificent throne. The throne was, without doubt, the largest she had ever seen, and could sit up to five people. But the King was a big man. He was currently seated on his throne with a prisoner in his lap. From the hair and pale skin, she could immediately tell that it was a female. He had sunk his canines into her neck and was drinking from her. The female’s mouth was open in a silent scream, no sound coming out of it as her life force was gradually drained from her. Before long, her brown eyes had turned glassy, she was dead. Finished with his meal, the King tossed her aside and two guards appeared to take her body before disappearing from sight and leaving me alone with the king. He watched her silently for a moment, something he did often, seated on his throne as he wiped the remnants of blood from his face. “Do you have any more news on his mother?” He asked. She knew exactly what he was asking her. He was asking if she had any news on the blonde she-wolf she had seen. She shook her head. “Unfortunately, I have not been able to see what she has been up to”, she told him. “It seems that there is a witch already on their side”, she reported. “I believed you to be the most powerful witch in the realm”, he snarled. “Was I wrong to believe that, witch?” He asked. She hated when he referred to her as witch. It made her feel ordinary and that was one thing she was very far from. She was a powerful witch from the direct line of the Earth Goddess. She was witch Royalty and yet he referred to her as though she were a servant. But she knew better than to challenge him. It would not end well for her. So, rather than curse him like she longed to do, she forced myself to smile. “You were not, great King”, she said, flattering him as she knew he loved. “Then why do you not have the answers I seek?” He asked. “It seems the witch helping her is a descendant from the direct line as well”, she said. “That is the only explanation to how they can block me from seeing anything”, she explained. “That is the thing with you witches” he snarled. “You all feel privileged to be direct descendants”, he mocked. “I should have wiped them all out when I wiped the werewolf Royal bloodline as well”, he said and she resisted the urge to glare at him, schooling her expression to remain neutral. “That would not have been necessary, my King”, she said. “I can still find ways to do your bidding”, she assured. “He cannot be born!” He suddenly yelled, almost startling me. “Do you understand? He cannot be born” , he repeated. “And he will not be, great King”, she told him. “I have plans already made as we speak. He will not be reborn”, she assured. “I need not remind you about the prophesy, do I?” He asked. “You know what would happen if we should fail”? He said. “I am aware, my King”, she said. “It will never happen”, she said firmly, confident that it was the truth. “It better not”, he said. “For your sake and mine”, he hissed before waving a hand at her to dismiss her. She clenched her fists as she exited the throne room. That such a creature would dare to talk to her in that manner still got on her nerves. The amount of disrespect she had to deal with from him was simply too much. But he was right. If the she-wolf was not eliminated, it would only be a matter of time before she come to be with child. She could never let that happen. She had made a deal with that bloodsucking demon King in order to gain long life. If she still wanted that, the she-wolf had to die. She stormed into hrr quarters, a large space the king had made available for her to sleep and person her spells and rituals. Before anything, she needed to find out exactly who it was that was blocking her from seeing into the mind and life of her prey. She picked up a spell book she had stolen from the coven of Elder witches over a century ago, before their high walls had been burnt down. It would come in handy at a time as this. Confident in her decision, she threw open the book and began to chant. Regan’s POV. It took almost everything in me to pull myself away from my mate’s side and leave the bed with her still soundly asleep. It had been a long night for us. Since it had been a while since we last made love, and since I had not made love to her ever since she had gotten her wolf, it was incredible how much better it was since we had become bonded. I could not keep my hands off her and we had made love all through the night. Surprisingly, I did not feel tired in the least. But I knew that my mate had to be, after all, she was with child. For a moment, I worried about the safety of our pup. We had been very passing the previous night and I hoped our love making would not caused him harm in any way. So I stood still and tried to catch his scent. Unlike before, it was stronger and as soon as I caught his scent, I breathed a sigh of relief. Truthfully, I did not wish to leave my mate either. But it was as I had said, the other packs would not refuse us if I went personally. It saddened me to know that I might not be around to hear when my pup had formed enough so one could hear his heartbeat. I would have loved to be the first person to hear it alongside his mother. But my personal wishes would have to wait. His safety and that of his mother came first. As quietly as I could, so as not to wake my mate, I cleaned myself and dressed before quietly slipping out from our room. It was already dawn so I was certain that Luke would be up and about. I mind linked him. ‘Meet me at the pack house’, I said simply. His reply came immediately. ‘On my way’. By the time I made it to the pack house, Luke was already standing outside of it. Rather than go in as I had initially intended, I had a sudden change of heart and headed towards the woods instead. Without saying a word, Luke followed. We used the secret route and arrived at Rage’s Sanctuary in no time. I made my way over to the fallen tree trunk and sat, waiting for Luke to do the same. Once he was seated, I spoke. “We will have to leave the pack for some days”, I told him. He nodded, already understanding what I was talking about. “I take it that she has finally come to accept it?” He asked. I nodded. “She insists you come with me”, I told him. He frowned. “Will they be safe without both of us present?” He asked, exactly what worried me. I smiled. “You forget that I have a Gamma”, i reminded. His lips twitched on a smile. “I have been doing most of his work so I sometimes forget our dear friend”, he said. “I also intend to ask how long Alpha Gaius will be with us”, I said. “I would feel better knowing that he and his mother would be here while we are away”, I told him. He nodded his agreement and was quiet for a while before speaking. “Must I really come with you?” He asked. I smiled. “I fear Jasmine would not hear otherwise”, I told him. “She says it would ease her worry to know that we will look after each other”. He smiled at that. “I don’t see how anyone could refuse that”, he said and stood to his feet. “If that is all, I will start to prepare for our departure”, he said. I nodded at his words. “We leave tomorrow at dawn”, I said. Receiving my orders, he left me to my thoughts.Jasmine’s POV The day I had been dreading finally came. I woke up once again to an empty bed. Since that was not anything new, I simply readied myself for the day before making my way out of the room. I joined Lena in the kitchen of our house and together, we prepared breakfast. Nana was absent, as she usually was due to Gaia’s presence, and Regan’s Gamma and his mate had moved out to live in a small cabin of their own not to far away from the pack house after having their pup. Since our house had several more rooms, Gaia and Alpha Gaius were asked to move in since they were going to be in our pack longer than they had initially planned. Lena was thrilled with this development, but however pleased I was for her, I could not shake the suspicion that Regan had prepared it all to have me protected at all times. It felt like he had placed people everywhere to protect me in his absence and as much as I loved and appreciated his protective nature, there was only so much e
Regan’s POV Since it was my first time being away from her, I found it somewhat difficult to adapt to the absence of my mate. Rage’s whining was not helping. He felt her absence more than I did since he felt my emotions more intensely. Even though he understood the reason we had to go, it did not stop him from sulking and whining at the absence of our mate. A part of me wanted nothing more than to turn around and return home, but it would be the wrong decision to make and I knew that. So we rode on, keeping a steady pace and rode towards the opposite path from where Blackmoon pack was. The fact that we took an entirely different route simply to avoid them spoke a lot of our hatred for them. We headed towards the next closest pack to us, a pack whose Alpha was an old friend of my father’s. I sent two of my warriors ahead to announce our arrival, and not too long after, they came back with news of the Alpha’s acceptance to have us in his pack. When we met up with a
Jasmine’s POV It was hard to cope with Regan and Luke’s absence. Especially that of my mate. I prayed so much more than I usually did for the success of their mission and for their safe return home. Concerning things at the pack, I did not have much to worry about. Regan had done an incredible work of preparing all that I would need in his absence. As he had earlier said before leaving, his Gamma handled the day to day routine and managed quite well, only coming to me when my guidance or authority was required. And I was not required much. With everything else, Nana and Lena never left my side. Always ready with help or advice whenever I would need it. Their presence made the absence of my mate bearable. Regan’s POV After getting Stonghold pack’s pledge, we visited six more packs that gave similar responses, all pledging to come when we called. Since each pack we visited insisted we dined with them and even spend the night before continuing our journey, as was customary hospitality among werewolves, I could not turn them down without being disrespectful. Especially since I had come to seek their aid. This simply meant that our journey took longer than originally planned. I had to write to Nana to tell her that all was well with us after receiving several spelled messages from her and Gaia, all enquiring about our well being. I knew that Jasmine would be the most worried of everyone back at home. And that was the last thing I wanted, to worry or upset her in any well. It would not be good for both her and our pup. Jasmine’s POV After my judgment on the mother and daughter who had lied against Amy, I noticed that members of my pack began to treat me differently. And not in a bad way. If they had treated me with anything close to respect, due to the fact that I was their Alpha’s mate, they now treated me with respect and admiration. Lena had ensured that my sentences on the mother and daughter were carried out. More than anyone, she had been proud of how I had handled the case and took great joy in narrating the occurrence in great detail to Nana and Mari, who had been disappointed that they had not been present to witness the even for themselves. Amy and Emry’s mother, who worked closely alongside Nana at the healing house was full of thanks, even going as far as shedding a few tears, to express her gratitude for how I had come to her daughter’s rescue. Regan’s POV It did not take us long to arrive at Redclaw pack once my request to be accepted into the pack was granted. A part of me had thought it would have been rejected and was quite satisfied with that since it meant Luke would be spared the emotional torture the meeting might turn out to be for him. All the same, he rode beside me with a straight face, obviously deep in his thoughts that I did not dare intrude upon. A part of me suddenly wished we had not come with horses. It meant our quest would have been faster in a sense. We could have run in our wolf forms to arrive at the packs we had to visit. However, three concerns had made me decide otherwise. The first was that we had planned to visit several packs, which meant we had to come with a lot of gifts for each pack we visited, hence why we had to bring along two carts. Jasmine’s POV Since I had no choice in the matter, I took amusement from wherever I could. At the moment, the amusement I derived from the expression of disbelief on the face of my former mate was one that brought me immense satisfaction indeed. He remained standing in the same spot since he had seen me, with his Beta beside him. “So it is true then?” He asked again, the disbelief suddenly giving way to an emotion I did not quickly realize. “She has already said that it is”, Lena replied hotly from where she way seated. He finally broke his gaze away from mine to shoot her a heated glare. “And who might you be?” He asked with a threatening growl. Before I could open my mouth to warn him to not speak that way to her, her mate, whose hand remained possessively on her shoulder, spoke. “She is my mate”, Alpha Gaius said, the warning clear in his tone and the brief flickering of his eyes that warned that his wolf was not so far from the surface, ready to attack any threat
Regan’s POV By the time a member of Redclaw pack came to escort us to their dining room, Luke had come to terms with the fact that he would have to face his mate, whether he liked it or not. I knew he was eager for answers to finally uncover the mystery behind his brother’s death. And so was I. But unlike Luke, I had a greater desire than that of getting answers. That desire was to see Luke finally happy, with his mate. I had always been able to read people easily, or at least feel their aura. From just our one meeting, I could tell that Luke’s mate, Zara, was not an evil person. Simply a protective and suspicious one. As we arrived at the dining room, we were ushered to our seats.
