Regan’s POV

By the time a member of Redclaw pack came to escort us to their dining room, Luke had come to terms with the fact that he would have to face his mate, whether he liked it or not.

I knew he was eager for answers to finally uncover the mystery behind his brother’s death. And so was I.

But unlike Luke, I had a greater desire than that of getting answers.

That desire was to see Luke finally happy, with his mate.

I had always been able to read people easily, or at least feel their aura.

From just our one meeting, I could tell that Luke’s mate, Zara, was not an evil person. Simply a protective and suspicious one.

As we arrived at the dining room, we were ushered to our seats.

Seated at the head chair of the dining table was who I knew was the Alpha of the pack, simply because of the aura I perceived from him.

He looked frail and I could easily tell that he would not last too much longer.

His daughter was seated to his right, and other ranked members of his pack alongside the sides of them.

I was led to the head chair on the other end of the table with Luke on my right and other members of my pack seated as well.

However, I did not sit yet, and since I did not, my warriors remained standing.

It was not customary for another Alpha to wait to be given permission before he could be seated. But it was the only way to pay respect to this Alpha, who I knew did not have much time any longer.

He watched me for a while, recognizing my action for the act of respect that it was. It seemed a few of his ranked members understood as well, along side his daughter, whose eyes began to glisten before she turned away to hide her face from view.

He gave a slow nod before his raspy voice spoke.

“Alpha Regan”, he said. “Please sit”.

At his acceptance, I bowed briefly, causing my warriors to boy lowly, before I took my seat with them.

Knowing he could not speak for long, I led the conversation, even as our food was being served.

“I have not had the honor of meeting you before”, I said. “I am glad to finally do so”, I told him.

He held my gaze, even as he leaned into his chair.

“Given the history between our packs in the past”, he said, with a glance at Luke who, he could no doubt see, had a striking resemblance with his late brother. “I doubt that you would have had any reason to come”, he said, not beating about the bush.

“As I was quite young when that incident took place”, I said. “I cannot say much on the matter, despite having many questions”, I admitted.

He looked closely at me, even as his daughter pushed a glass of water closer for him.

I noticed then that, unlike ever else, he had not been served food.

“Then you will understand that this is a surprise indeed”, he rasped. “When I received your letter, I could not help but wonder if this was a quest for revenge”, he said bluntly.

I had not touched my food despite nodding to my warriors to do so.

Though they acted like it, I had already heard Luke mind link them to not eat the food until they have received his go ahead.

“And yet, you let us into your pack?” I wondered aloud.

He gave a weak shrug of his shoulder.

“I am a curious wolf by nature”, he said before turning his eyes from me to Luke. “You can eat the food”, he said to him. “I assure you, it is not poisoned”, he said, and I refused to allow my surprise show, even as his gaze turned back to me. “I see no gain in any of your deaths”, he said. “You are my guests and will be treated as nothing less”, he said, turning back to Luke. “Especially as my daughter’s mate is a part of your company”, he said.

I felt Luke tense before I glanced at him.

He had a death grip on the spoon in his hand, and I knew it took more control to keep the spoon from snapping then to control his emotions.

‘Calm down, Luke’, I mind linked him, aware that he had not taken so much as a look at the weak Alpha for fear of what he might do at the sight of him.

‘He means no disrespect or mockery’, I told him. ‘See it for yourself’, I urged.

I knew that Alpha Zolan watched me, even as I mind linked Luke. I knew he could see how tightly Luke was holding on to his control. But he said nothing.

Simply waited until Luke lifted his head and looked at him for the first time.

At the sight of him, I felt the rage in Luke’s body slowly ease away, even as his tight-enough-to-hurt-it-but-not-break-it grip on the spoon loosened.

I knew he saw what I saw.

A wise werewolf who did not have much longer to live. But no evil, no killer.

As Luke turned back to his plate and took his first bite, ordering our warriors to eat, I knew he had seen what I had.

Alpha Zolan had not been the one to kill Luke’s brother.

Luke was a lot more observant than I was, and I believed he had inherited an ounce of Nana’s powers. He could read people accurately with just one look.

Alpha Zolan in return, watched Luke closely as if wanting to see beyond him.

I knew his observation was making Luke uneasy, so I decided to shift his focus back to me.

“Yes”, I said to his earlier statement of Luke being his daughter’s mate. “We found out earlier upon our arrival”, I said, with a glance at his daughter who hardly ever took her eyes off her father.

Her worry and love for him was clear as day to see.

“And as for revenge”, I continued, looking back at him. “That is not why we are here”, I told him. “On the contrary, we are here to seek your help”, I announced.

His daughter’s head whipped around so fast to shoot me a suspicious look that I could not help but smile at.

“You wish to seek our help?” Alpha Zolan asked, watching me closely.

I nodded and took a deep breath before launching into my tale.

“I am sure you have heard of the prophecy”, I said. “I had always believed it to be a tale concocted to preserve hope in the hearts of the werewolves, but I was wrong”, I told him. “I lost my mate as a very young wolf during the attack of Blackmoon pack”, I said, and saw the pain of understanding in his eyes. He too had lost his mate. “ I had given up on ever finding another before I met my current mate”, I said.

The look of suspicion had started to disappear from Luke’s mate’s face, as she listened to my story.

“She was a wolf that did not have any access to her wolf”, I told them. “She was rejected by her own mate for being weak. But she was not weak”, I said. “I knew she special from the moment I saw her”, I told them, already seeing her in my mind. “And my wolf would not let me be without her”, I said with a smile.

A weak smile appeared on Alpha Zolan’s lips.

“I asked her to be my mate, and she agreed”, I smiled. “Not too long after our mating ceremony, we completed the mating ritual, only to have my mate transform for the first time”, I shared, aware of the rapt attention from the werewolves of Redclaw pack.

“She had always had these birthmarks on her back, but once she shifted, they turned into markings”. I let that sink in before continuing. “My mate had shifted into a pure white wolf with the markings of the Royal Bloodline on the back of her wolf”, I said.

I heard gasps of disbelief and even noticed Alpha Zolan and his daughter’s shocked expressions.

“Impossible”, one of his ranked members said.

I shot him a glare.

“I assure you”, I said. “I am not in the habit of riding so far away from my pack, to request the assistance of every pack I come across so that they can fulfil their duty to the Royal Bloodline, simply for the amusement it brings”, I said.

He bowed his head immediately.

I turned back to Alpha Zolan.

“If you are aware of the prophecy, then you must be aware of the Vampire King”, I said to him.

He gave a weak nod and I went on.

“Gaia of Whitestorm pack was summoned”, I told him. “She is at my pack as we speak alongside her son, the Alpha Gaius of Whitestorm pack. She is the reason I am on this journey”, I said and leaned forward. “The Vampire King is aware of my mate’s existence, and he plans to kill her before she can give birth to my son”, I told him, my intense gaze locked in his.

I saw the understanding of my words dawn on him.

“You are saying your mate is already pregnant?” Zara asked from beside her father, drawing my gaze to her.

I nodded.

“He will try to kill my son before he is born”, I told them. “He will try to stop the prophecy from being fulfilled. He will try to take them from me”, I leaned back to rest on my chair. “But I will die first before I see that happen”, I said before looking around at them. “I ask that you do your duty to the Royal Bloodline”, I said. “That you keep the pledge of your fathers and answer in defense of the Royal family, when I call”, I requested.

He was silent for a long time.

They all were.

It was not everyday one heard that a long, almost forgotten prophecy was coming to fulfillment.

Alpha Zolan finally spoke.

“I fear I cannot be of help to you”, he said, and I felt my heart drop.

Redclaw was one of the largest werewolf packs in the East. Despite what I had told Luke, their numbers would mean we stood a good chance.

“As you can see”, he went on. “I do not have much longer to remain in this world”, he told me before turning to look lovingly at his daughter. “But my heir is strong and wise”, he said as her eyes began to glisten. “I have only one wish before I go”, he said, turning back to me. “That my daughter be happy and cherished”, he said and looked at Luke.

“If you will give me your word that you will take care of my daughter”, he told him and turned back to me. “Then you have mine on this day, that whenever you call, Redclaw pack will answer”, he said. “Whether I am here or not”.

I saw Zara grab a hold of her father’s hand, her eyes glistening but no tears falling.

She would indeed make a good mate for Luke.

I turned to Luke.

I could not give my word, it was not mine to give.

It was Luke he had asked, not me, so I waited in silence alongside everyone else for the what Luke would say.

He spoke after a short while.

“You have my word”, he said. “On this day, Alpha Zolan, I promise to protect, love and cherish your daughter. I will do all I can to make her happy, for as long as I live”, he said, turning to look at his mate with complete adoration.

That had taken much less than I had originally thought it would.

She smiled as her father nodded.

“Then it is settled”, Alpha Zolan said and motioned for us to continue our meal.

‘That did not take long’ I teased Luke through our mind link. ‘I thought you wanted nothing to do with her’.

He did not respond, simply shot me a glare and turned to watch his mate as she ate.

Jasmine’s POV I had just returned from my usual morning runs with Lena. She still could not get used to the fact that I had a wolf and her dreams of going on runs with me were being fulfilled. She also could not get over how beautiful she said Snow was. Snow had instantly taking a liking to Lena’s wolf, as I never doubted she would. And although I knew Snow was much faster, she always kept a pace that she knew Lena’s wolf could keep up with whenever we ran. We had just returned from washing up at the stream after our run when Amy ran up to join us. “Luna!” She called, panting for breath from her run. She still refused to call me by my name no matter how many times I had urged her to do so. “There’s a letter”, she said, still panting for breath. “From the Alpha”, she finally managed to get out. On hearing this, I grabbed her hand excitedly and began to pull her into another run. As she opened her mouth to protest, probably to say she could not run any longer, Lena s

Regan’s POV Needless to say, once we had received the pledge from the Alpha of Redclaw pack, there was no reason to remain there much longer. I agreed to stay an additional two nights at their pack for Luke’s sake. I could tell that he wanted more time with his mate. However, the tables had slowly turned. While it had been Luke’s mate who seemed besotted before, Luke’s eyes now followed her everywhere like a love sick puppy. It was amusing to say the least since I had never seen him that way. Our warriors had even started to secretly tease him among themselves about how he was completely besotted with his mate. She, on the other hand, seemed to be avoiding him, even though her eyes searched for him whenever she walked into a room, only to look away when she saw him already watching her. I had written to my mate about Luke finding his mate, so that she could share the good news with Lena and Nana. However, seeing Luke and his mate simply made me miss mine so much

Jasmine’s POV I woke up that morning feeling that something was different. Not different in a bad sense but different anyway. I sat up on my bed and looked at the empty space beside me. Not a day went by where I did not miss my mate. And though we sent letters to each other, it did nothing to ease the ache of his absence. Lena had decided to wait until their return before setting a date for her mating ceremony. Although she was very excited and looked forward to it, she insisted that it would not be complete without both her brothers. There was nothing I could say to argue with that. I cleaned up and changed to join Lena at the sanctuary, where we were to meet to go for our morning run. As soon as I stepped into the sanctuary where she was seated on the fallen trunk, waiting for me, she immediately froze, a frown on her face. “What is it?” I asked, stepping closer to her in concern. “We are not alone”, she said in almost a whisper, looking attentive as though

Regan’s POV After the night I had actually conversed with Luke’s mate, I decided that she was too much like Lena to not get along famously with both Lena and my mate. She had grown noticeably closer to Luke after that night as well. She did not avoid him as she normally did and Luke looked the happiest I had seen him in years. It was almost heart breaking to tear them apart. But the day of our departure finally came. As much as I hated to, we were obligated to leave for our last destination before we could finally make our way back home. Emry, who was separated from his mother and sister for the very first time, had started to become home sick. And despite how hard he tried to hide it, it was easy for me to notice. Perhaps because I was feeling the same way as well. I could honestly not wait to return home to my mate and unborn pup, as well as Nana and Lena. I had missed them all considerably. That morning, despite my insistence that he did not have to, Alpha Zola

Jasmine’s POV I was sure I was not the only person who stared in surprise at the strange she-wolf/ witch standing before me in a robe. I knew she looked familiar, but no matter how hard I tried, I still could not place or remember why she was familiar to me. However, her saying that we were family was the last thing I had expected to hear. “I am sure I heard you wrong”, I said to her. “You did not”, she said almost immediately, that smile still in place. “You heard me right”, she said. “We are family”. The fact that she said it again left me baffled. After recovering from my speechlessness, I asked her. “How are we family?” I asked, knowing everyone else in the room was curious about the same thing. That smile on her face never wavered. “Our mothers were sisters”, she said without hesitation. “I suppose that would make us cousins”, I told her. Though I was surprised at her news, I tried my best to keep my facial expression from revealing just how surprised I rea

  • Revenge on Blackmoon Pack    Chapter Seventy-Three

Regan’s POV It took us almost all day to finally get to our destination. Our last place to visit was a pack whose Alpha was an important Elder on the Werewolf Council of Elders. He was one of the oldest werewolves and Alphas alive and had been a mentor of my father when he was alive. As was expected, I sent two of my warriors ahead to request permission to enter their pack and was granted access. We were escorted by two of their warriors to their pack house where, as was customary, their Alpha and members of their pack were waiting to receive us. I remembered meeting the Alpha of Nighthowl pack when I was very young. He had visited my father and I remembered thinking how strong he looked. I had never met my grandfather or grandmother. So I had seen the way my father had treated him with obvious respect and affection and had thought he was my grandfather. When I had addressed him as such, he had laughed fondly and ruffled my hair, even as my mother apologized on my be

Jasmine’s POV At first I thought it was real, but it did not take long for me to realize, even in my subconscious, that it was a dream. The reason I realized that almost immediately was because of the familiar setting of the dream. The dream was one I had had many times. It was the only dream where I saw my mother’s face. The same dream I had time and time again. Although I had stopped having it often after coming to Regan’s pack. It was the same cabin, small and remote, surrounded by woods on every side. However, for some reason, I could already tell that this dream would be different. It would not be the usual dream I had of my last moments with my parents. Of their deaths. I stood before the family cabin, not too big in size and standing right in the midd of the woods. Just like I remembered it, trees served as a shade for it. As I walked around it towards the back, I saw my mother’s garden. I did not remember seeing the garden in my dreams before. But ther

Jasmine’s POV It was a surprise to everyone at breakfast the next morning to see Luke seated to Regan’s left, and the two thoroughly engaged in conversation. I am sure Luke’s mate was surprised as well because we shared a glance of astonishment before turning back to watch our mates interact. It was as though Luke had never left. The only difference was, when before it would be very obvious that they were both mind linking the other, it had now become that they would openly speak to each other. I secretly believed they did that so that Lena could see. If she saw and was affected by it, she hid it well, keeping a blank and almoubored expression on her face and only interacting with the ladies and her mate throughout the meal. It was the bored expression that let me know that she was indeed affected. Lena was never bored. If she was, she created something to entertain herself and others. Regan’s POV It had been three days since Luke came home and I could still feel the awkwardness between us. Lena had still not relented in her mission to pretend he did not exist and for the most part, I felt sorry for him. Lady Zara was getting along famously with the ladies, who went out of their way to include her in every activity they performed. They had even taken her to their favorite place at the stream and it was clear to see that Lady Zara was thoroughly enjoying her stay in our pack. For my part, I was mostly confused. I did not know whether to have Luke perform duties around the pack, just as I normally would. But it was not the same. I did not even know if o could still refer to him as my Beta. We had not had a single meaningful conversation since his return. On one hand, his mate was the last relative of the deceased Alpha of Redclaw pack, which meant that he could take up the leadership of the pack as its Alpha if he chose to remain there with her. O

I had known that Lena’s feelings had been hurt by Luke’s refusal to respond to the several letters she had sent him while he had been away. However, I had assumed that all would be forgiven once he returned home. I had assumed wrong. She had avoided seeing him all day and had remained in the privacy of her room until it was time for Supper. Then, she had emerged in all her cold beauty and proceeded to sit as far away from Luke at the dinner table in the pack house. Despite her avoidance of Luke and her ignoring of his existence, her cold treatment was never given to Luke’s mate, who she had pulled into a hug and gushed over how beautiful she was the moment Nana had introduced her. She also wrote to inform me that she had written to her distant nephew, the Alpha of Moonrock pack, and encouraged me to write to him, assuring me of his acceptance to hear of my request. After receiving that particular letter, I wasted no time in writing to the Alpha of Moonrock pack, convincing Alpha Gaiu to do the same on our behalf. With his arm around my waist, my mate led us back to our home after our evening meal with the rest of the pack to welcome our warriors back. Mira had done an absolutely marvelous job at cooking up the most sumptuous meal for our supper. Everyone had eaten their feel and the mood was very merry. However, throughout the meal, Isla remained quiet as usual, only lightly conversing with Lena or other wise quietly watching and smiling to some antics the warriors did. Most of them were somewhat drunk and were obnoxiously loud. One thing that was clear to anyone with eyes was how much and how often most of the warriors who had returned -most of which were unmated - tried to gain Isla’s attention. At first, they had simply stared at her or passed her admiring glances. But once they started to drink, they grew bolder with trying to g

Our goodbye was a very casual affair as we both knew each other well enough to know that we did not want to get affectionate or create a scene. So we limited our goodbye to a nod and a brief handshake and patting of shoulders.
