Through the forest of Dengek I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. Screaming all the way.
“Help! Help! Please some body help!”
I turned back and saw they were almost closing in, on me. What will I do now? There is no hope and I might as well be at the end of my struggle to survive.
“Surrender witch! Nobody is going to save you now. Take a look! You are outnumbered. There is very little you can do now. Hahahaha!” Came the voice of the huge tall one who is their leader.
He is Bradly and we know him as the orphaned boy. A nicknamed he was given from childhood before, he disappeared from Muldoch long time ago, only to return home a different person. He had come back with people who share similar interest with him and also, he had incited the inhabitants of the city to wedge a holy war on the witches. Unfortunately, I was one of the victims. Many of my people have been burned alive while, the remaining ones cannot be accounted for.
“You escaped before but surely this time, you will never get the chance to do that again,” said another voice from the mob.“But I have done nothing wrong to deserve this?” I stopped running as I have been encircled by the fierce looking mob. I had nothing in mind again to do other than to surrender.
"I'm innocent. I have committed no crime. Please let me go. I seek no trouble with any of you."“No witch is innocent!" Begins Bradly their leader. “And we are the ones seeking problems with you young witch. As long as you are alive, you are our problem. Today, you must die!” He stared at me wickedly, while the rest of the evil men with him went wild with laughter.
“I have nothing to do with that which you accuse me of. All I seek is to live happily like every normal person in your town. “I tried to defend myself but his adamant and evil tone persisted.“Bound her up at once!” He commanded. “We will burn her tonight at the stake. Right from there she will join others of her kind in hell. And oh, don't forget to tell them I said, ‘hello’ Witch!”
I swallowed a voluminous saliva like never before. My hands and feet were visibly shaking. My mind quickly flashed back to the ugly day lady Gia was burned at the stakes simply because she was a witch. I could remember watching her from my hiding as she screamed in horrible pains while getting burned.
“Oh no! Please don’t burn me. That’s a horrible way to die. Even if I’m going to be put to death please do that in another less painful method,’’ I pleaded.
He grinned wickedly at me. “Horrible? Witch, did you say horrible? That’s the ideal method of putting your kind to death. Yeah, it was specially designed for you and all the other witches.”
Soon about five heavy men from the mob descended on me. They began binding my hands and feet in one of the final preparations to send me down to the pit of hell.
‘What an awful way to die. Death by any other means may not be good but, nothing is as scary as being tied to a stake and watch your whole body get consumed in the unmerciful fire. It is certainly the worst scenario of death to me,’ I told myself.
I let them drag my defenseless body through the forest floor to the stake about thirty meters away from where I was caught by then, I was gasping for last breaths. All I could hear now was the cheering angry mob. They were chanting different evil words against me.
“Death to the wicked witch! Death to the Satan incarnate! Death to the evil one!’’ They chanted.
At that point in my life, I curse myself for being witch although it wasn’t my fault but, that of my mother who brought me into this world. She was a witch too and had taught me everything I knew about witchery and sorcery. It pained my poor soul to learn that she was nowhere close to save my ass from the merciless fire of the mob.
Worst of all, I have been caught off guard. I was not with my magic apparatus when I landed in their net and so did little to nothing in an attempt to escape their onslaught.Just when the hefty five men began tying my hands and feet behind the pole, the voice of their leader could be heard again.
“What are you going to do now witch?’’ He taunted. “You see, I have promised myself to make all of you bleed. All of you! It doesn’t matter if you had a hand in what happened that night or not, my objective is to obliterate all of you from the face of the earth. Now it gladdens me a lot because I’m coming close to achieving my objective,’’ he snapped a finger in clear demonstration of what he was saying.“Oh yeah! That makes you a tough guy then!’’ I yelled.
He drew closer and held me by the throat. “Listen bitch! Now you die,’’ he spat to my crying face and gave me a hot slap. “Bring the paraffin oil and light her up!” He gave me another hot slap and heaved a heavier spat on me this time before, stepping back to pave way for two able-bodied men bringing a jar of paraffin oil to be used on me.
Meanwhile, the painful and abusive chants from the mob continued. I cared less about the pain from the slaps I received. My priority is the fact that I will be spending my last days on earth with pains. While watching the men adjust the wood and the dry grasses closer below, I made one last effort to save my life.
“Please banish me from your city instead of this. I promise never to return. I have done nothing wrong to deserve this sir!”
My pleas fell on deaf ears again. I knew it was too late to change their minds no matter how hard I try.“Burn her to ashes!’’ Was his response instead. “There is no atonements for you young witch. Others have gone through this path before and you shall surely meet the same fate.”
He had hardly finished speaking when I began sensing some cold liquid dripping on my body.
“Tear her cloths and make her naked so she could feel the fury of the fire,’’ echoed an unknown voice from the back where the mob was cheering to my own dismay but to their own excitement.
“No! That will make her body uneasy to catch flame,’’ objected yet another voice from the same source. “I suggest we let her keep her cloth so she could have something to wear in hell when she gets down there!”
To this, the mob simply went wild with hysteria.“Needless dumb ass1! She wouldn’t be needing any cloth down there. It’s always hot stupid,’’ said their leader while tuning back to me, as he finished scolding one of them. “Hey witch I can do you a favor. You see my comrades here wants you naked so you feel less pain when you are finally lighted up. But, I’m a good person and will not heed to their suggestion rather, I would like to hear from you. Consider what I’m doing right now for you a generous offer.” Wilder laughs followed.
While they were buried deeply in their laugh, a rare idea came to my mind. Yes! I have just remembered my free spell. It was a spell that needed no special apparatus to work on. I could have tried using that a long time ago but, I guess my mind was so obsessed with the horror of being killed. However, the sad news quickly came too. Such spell can only work when I point my right index finger to the direction of the north and speak. I pitied my poor self because, that’s never going to happen again as my two hands were strongly tied behind my back to the pole. It was an impossible mission.I closed my eyes to horrible scene I’m about to witness as one of the men who tied and arranged me for death brings a fire torch closer to the already treated dry grasses. The paraffin oil on it made it easier to catch fire and in the twinkle of an eye, the fire began burning. My worst night had just set in with no one to save me tonight.
I began crying loudly even before the fire could get closer to me. Just when I thought all hope has been lost, there came a deep heavy voice from the opposite direction.
“Let her go!’’
I lifted up my face and opened my eyes sensing a glimpse of hope.
Everyone paused for a second in order to trace the source of the voice. Not long afterwards, all eyes were on the three tall, dark figures standing the opposite direction of the mob, in the dark with no intimidation. I felt disappointed when I discovered they were only three in number. From the look of things, they don’t stand a chance against the well-armed mob.“Who the hell do you think you are to interfere in our business?’’ Asked Bradly with confidence and annoyance.
“Why don’t you wait and find out? Now do as I say, let her go!’’ Replied one of the three men. He is the one standing in-between the two other men.
“Tell me one reason why I shouldn’t kill you three right the way?’’
Meanwhile, as the intruders exchanged words with Revolutionists the fire was almost burning inches away from my foot. I could sense the terrible heat.
“Help! Help!’’ I screamed to remind them of my imminent condition. The one in the middle among the three men ran towards me with a super human strength. He unbundled me within seconds much to the dismay of the mob and their leader. How he managed to untie in a short limited amount of time remains baffling. He carried me in his strong arms away from the flame.“Don’t be scared. You will be fine. This is my home and nobody dares to mess around with me here,’’ he told me.Only then did I saw his huge biceps and his sexy- hairy chest. So tempting to touch.“His head is mine!’’ Shouted the mob’s leader. “How dare you intrude in my business? I will teach a lesson that you will never forget! Get his head!’’At once the mob charged with rage towards our direction at the command of their leader to kills us.“You are making a mistake you will regret.’’ He quickly dodged successfully, the first set of persons that advanced to attack, whilst carrying me in his arms.As I watched the other two men
“Stop right there!” One of the tall, dark figures commanded.I stood like a frozen fish, unable to decide for myself. Should I obey him or the alpha wolf that had I instructed me to move forward?“What took you so long Eric and Drek?’’ The alpha asked. “Doing our job of course!’’ the one I suspected to be Eric answered.“Oh I see Eric. Did you finish what you started?’’“Yes we did,’’ Drek steps in.“And their leader?’’Eric begins to walk even closer to me, “he swore never to cross our path again. He ran like a coward.”“I guess that means you spared his life?’’ said the alpha.Drek like Eric, begins to come closer to me. “What’s the need of killing the coward when we got what we sought? We killed many of them before he surrendered and I’m sure it’s going to be a long time before we meet again.’’“We got the witch that’s what matters. Now, you can claim what is rightfully yours,’’ Eric added.I wondered what I have got to do with all they were saying. Could it be they are echoing w
“You mean, Deborah could have mistaken you for another person?’’ Asked Ammon as he walks closer to me. He seized my hand and grabbed my hair just like Drek had done earlier. “Listen bitch, Deborah can never lie and will never deceive us. Your name is Louis. The daughter of Mahandra the great mistress of the witches. Margarita is your only mother’s extant sister. She betrayed your mother and let the vampires kill her in one of their bloody clashes, years ago.” He spread one of his palms across my face, totally insensitive to the torment he is putting me through.I responded only when he eased his grip on me, “Margarita also told you that? How can I believe all you have said?’’“Yes witch, she did. That was how we found you. It’s either you do as we say and come with us to prepare the ritual that will break the spell or you perish right here in the middle of the forest. The choice is yours, Louis.”We arrived at a small cottage deep in the forest and far from any human contact. I was he
The wolves were caught unaware by my demand that they should leave me and the Alpha alone in the house if, the spell-breaking ritual must work. They both looked at each other except Ammon whom I guess, was keen to see me do my job rather than showing any interest in the demand I had made."Now tell me one thing why we should leave witch?" Derek began walking closer to me. His eyes were filled with rage as he inches closer. Only he knew what he had in mind at that moment. He held me by the neck, "tell me why we should leave?"For the first time, Eric appears to come to my aid. "“Easy on her! Slow down brother," he told Derek. “Let's us get the clear message she is trying to deliver," now turning to me, he continued, "Are you saying we are unworthy to witness the ritual procession, is that what you mean by ‘we should step outside?”“The words never came out from my mouth but yours. The sooner you adhere to the instruction the quicker we go with the spell-breaking ritual.”I could tell
“Oh no! Look at what you have done now! How could you, after all the warning I gave to you?”I knew what was coming at once and I quickly acted like I was the victim to reduce any possibility of him laying his hands on me with his rage.Like magic, it seems like my trick on him worked. He refrained from raising his voice at me or doing something stupid. "I'm sorry about that Louis. Believe me, I had opened my eyes to remind you about one of the essential parts of the ritual which was missing,” said the Alpha.“There is no point in apologizing because you have ruined the ritual.” we broke the body contact we had through our hands. I watched his face change from moderate to complete sadness. “I only opened my eyes to remind you that no blood was spilled. Practically speaking your blood. It is needed for the ritual according to what Deborah had told us.“That doesn't change anything right now! You ruined it," I insisted.“If this curse of mine can't be broken tonight, then you will not
Quickly, I closed my eyes, folded my palms, and began to cast a spell. No one can hear the words I said, only my lips moved. I cared less to listen to what the wolves were saying at that critical point in time of my life.“Thy hand who strike thee, hand fall short. Fall uncontrolled, ground shall stuck! Breath paused, air blend to water, so mote it be.” I opened my eyes immediately and behold, Derek's right hand was already raised and was set to strike me. Exactly the same time, the empty bottle of the whiskey he had drank earlier shattered into pieces with a bristling sound. His coat was pulled off him and flown across the floor, but he was unharmed in any way. Nevertheless, he carried on with his plan to stab me before the alpha finally intervened.“Stop Derek! There is nothing more to prove, she passed the test. Are you now convinced she is the one?”At once, Derek heeded the Alpha's command and stopped, with frustrations showing on his face. I knew it would have pleased him to ki
They were boldly written on the front book, Magic-Of-The-Ancient. Now, what the hell on earth is a magic book doing in the alpha’s room? He is not a wizard and it doesn’t appear he wants to be one either. I have read so many magic books during my stay with lady Gia nevertheless, I was convinced the book I had seen arranged on the shelf may have a cutting edge over the other books I have read. The more I stared at it was the more the temptation, to hold it in my hands and read every page growing stronger. ‘Should I grab it at once and read it to satisfy my curiosity or should I just ignore it and keep thinking about my miserable life? What about the alpha? How will he react if he suddenly burst into the room unannounced only to find me going through his book?’ I don’t have the right answers to these questions but one thing is for sure, the alpha will never touch a strand of my hair as long as I’m important to him. Especially now that I have offered him a promising solution to his probl
We gazed at each other for some quick seconds with his eyes, dominating mine. “What do you think you are doing witch? I gave you a room to lay your head and now you are invading my personal property? Is that what you do?’’ He began walking closer to the shelf where I had arranged his book. He took it and held it in his palms. Once again, we stood facing each other. That long wicked looks never stopped intimidating me.“m sorry sir. I never mean to do anything that will upset you. I will never go close that again.’’ I lifted my face a bit to meet his but quickly looked down again. The alpha has not acted in the way I had expected him to respond.“Tell me, witch,’’ he began, “have you read any book like this before?’’“No, I have not.’’“Hmmm! That means, it must be strange to you?’’“Yes, but it was interesting.’’He raised his eyebrows, “did you find any piece of written paper in my book?’’‘Should I lie to him and pretend I saw nothing?’ I asked myself. ‘No, that will make the alpha
"Sandra, this is Louis, my half-sister and the one you have spoken of," began Steve. "And Miss beautiful, (as he was fond of calling me) this is my friend Sandra. I just met and I'm begging her to go on a date with me," he said."Oh, that's great...what's keeping the two of you then, from going out to have some fun?" I smiled at Sandra as I spoke."We are from different worlds mistress, I can't go out with him," said Sandra.I was surprised that Sandra addressed me as a mistress. I never liked that title, I always wanted to be addressed as Louis. And I'm always satisfied by hearing people address me by my simple name. That was what I had to tell Sandra."You can call me by my name," I smiled at her because Sandra appeared to be confused. "Don't worry Sandra, I said it, go ahead and call me by my name. I have nothing against you.""Alright ma'am!" she said. She quickly remembered that I told her to always call me by my name and not a mistress or any other bossy name.... names that will
"I'm....my name is Steve," he began."Oh, I see... who doesn't know Steve? I do... you the commander of the king's army!" replied the Witch."Yes, that's right...may I know your name?""I'm Sandra!" she glanced at him and smiled. Next, she held on to the handle of the mob stick. She resumed mobbing the floor."Wow! Sandra is such a beautiful name... How long have you been here?" Steve asked.Sandra appeared to be surprised by his odd question."How long I have been? Is that what you are asking me?""Yes," he affirmed. "Oh, come on.... not long ago...I thought you were at the banquet when the king permitted my mistress to inhabit the castle!"Steve grabbed hold of his hair as if he has been disoriented and was trying to put himself in order again."Pardon my negligence..." he smiled at her and continued, "I was wondering if you could make out some time for me, I would like to know you more!"I knew what was coming next. I just hope, my stepbrother Steve will have the gut to let his emo
Alpha Ammon tabbed Steve on the shoulder. "Give it some thought, it's not bad if you do so but don't do it for a long time. I know you will be fine in no distant time, kid! Don't think too much!" he tabbed Steve on the shoulder again before walking out on us just like, Eric did.The Alpha and Eric did not leave because they were heartless and insensible to the plight that their ally was in. I. believed they left because they wanted to give Steve some time to think and put himself back in order. That was how I understood it.Vera was the next in line to leave. "I think I will have to wait at the other side while you put yourself together," said Vera. She walked out too.I never took my eyes off her until she was gone and out of sight.I turned to Steve. "I think it's time you put yourself in order. Remember you are a man and not a woman!""Yeah, I know!" he nodded yes to what I said. "You know how I feel, don't you?""I do! I feel your pain....it has never been easy for me just as it
Vera turned to me and said apologized. "I'm sorry for doubting you. I was wrong the whole time I thought you were lying."I was not interested in her apologies rather I was more interested to know why lady Gia's spirit has decided to suddenly visit me without warning."Do you know why she decided to show up here?""No, but, I guess you are the one who summoned your Spirit."" What the hell are you talking about? When did I do that?" I asked"I guess the letter we read had something to with her.... maybe it was that summoned her here. Moreover, we are in her castle. What do you expect from a restless soul?""I believe you," I told her. "Maybe, I should summon her again!""No, I will not support you on that...you know it's a very bad idea. Her soul needs to rest. Let her be...let her rest in peace."I abandoned the idea to summon Gia's spirit even though I couldn't stop getting enough from her. I felt like having her all day long talking to me. I know deep down that it was not possible.
I listened as she began reading the letter to me."Dear Louis, I know that someday you will find this letter. This is the least I could do to let you know that I have always loved you from the bottom of my heart. You caught my heart when I held your tender hhand'ssandlegs in my arms. You were just an infant who I could not abandon or allow Margarita to kill. That was why I escaped to Muldoch and found a new home--this castle. I have always wanted the best for you but am afraid, I may not be here for you any more. I want you to know that it was never my intention to abandon you but, I will have to. I have no other choice. You will take it from here my dear.I believe you will survive in any condition you find yourselfrselfin. I wish you the best of luck in all you are doing. Always remember your past. Let it always be the basis for your existence... always remember who you are.You are my child although you are not my biological daughter, I consider you one. The love I have for you eq
Later on the next night, I and Ammon, my Lycan mate went to the castle which was to be inhabited by Vera and her Witches. On the balcony, we sat and enjoyed some sweet discussions.Because the Alpha was a funny type, I would laugh any time he comes up with any of his funny jokes. However, he took me by surprise when he knelt on the ground, right in front of me and began to apologise. Why was he apologizing?"Louis, I'm sorry for all that has happened between us. You are the best mate any Lycan out there could get. I'm sorry for putting you through enormous pain. I shouldn't have abused you through those dark times of my life but, I did. I'm sorry, Louis, I want you to forgive me for that's all I ask from you!" he bent his head and never wanted to look at me.I lifted his face slowly to look at him but to my greatest surprise, he was shedding tears. His tears compelled me to cry. I was moved by tears since I can not stand the scene of watching people cry especially, my loved ones."I f
The King glanced at Vera for a few minutes and said, "I know her... she approached me not long and asked for permission to have the castle!" The king looked specifically at Vera and asked. "Is this all you could do?" "No, your majesty!" replied Vera, "I know you think of me as a bad person... I know you think I have bad intentions but I don't. All I want from you is to have access to the castle and keep the memory of lady Gia alive."The king was still in doubt about Vera's honesty. He turned to look at me. "Are you sure about this, Louis? Are you sure you are making the right decision now? There is no going back on my word?""Yes, your majesty. Grant her permission to have the castle in my name." I paused for a moment and glared at Vera."You see, your majesty," I continued, "I owe my life to this woman. When margarita killed my mother, she was among those Witches that took care of me and ensured that I was safe all the time. If you let her have the castle, it's the same thing as ha
Just when we are not expecting him to speak, Steve stood to his feet and began talking."Your majesty, that was an incredible opening and sure that my fellow guests agree with that. Thank you very much for your benevolence but I must ask a favour from you." "Oh, I see...a favour?" said the king."Yes, my king. I need a favour from you...it's a favour which I'm very convinced that you can grant if it pleases your majesty."The King seemed to be impatient as he quickly ask Steve to go ahead and make his formal request."Yes, go ahead and make your request!""Thank you, your majesty," Steve thanked before proceeding with his request. "If it pleases your majesty, may he grant me the ownership of the quarter at the side of the city?""Oh, I see...that's a tough one!" began the king. "That's tough...I thought you said it was gonna be an easy request." The King sighed as if he was easing himself from discomfort. "Anyway, Steve, I have great trust in you. If you don't mind, can you tell me wh
For the next few minutes, Vera remained silent. Perhaps, she has suddenly run out of words... I really can't tell. Or Maybe, she was still thinking about the right answer to present to me concerning my humble request."You are not talking, Vera!... You are not saying anything... Why did you suddenly become quiet?"I asked while expecting her to reply to me immediately. She never did. Vera began walking away from me. I did not try to stop her. I let her do what was on her mind at that moment. At first, I thought she was going to walk out on me. I was wrong, she never did. Instead, she walked only a few meters and stopped.... about four meters so to say.She was still turning her back on me. I guess she was going to say something after pausing her movement abruptly."I'm sorry to disappoint you again, but I can't go with you to the banquet at the king's palace."I countered immediately. "And why will you say that?.... I ask you again, what's the problem?""I can not go to the palace of a
