I responded only when he eased his grip on me, “Margarita also told you that? How can I believe all you have said?’’
“Yes witch, she did. That was how we found you. It’s either you do as we say and come with us to prepare the ritual that will break the spell or you perish right here in the middle of the forest. The choice is yours, Louis.”
We arrived at a small cottage deep in the forest and far from any human contact. I was helpless because no matter how loud I scream no one will hear me. Any attempt to flee either, behind their back will be suicidal. The ultimate reality had set in for me. Inside the small cottage was a lamp that seem to have been burning for many hours now. There was also, a fireplace and a small library which indicate the alpha and his friends were not illiterates, but bookworms. The small library was stacked with different books of various sizes and volume. I wondered if I could be allowed to make use of their library while in their custody. As I continue to look around at what possibly could be my home for some time to come, I discovered the cottage was made of two bedrooms and a parlor located at the center.“Sit down witch,’’ the alpha stared at me before walking to the next room.
Eric was standing at the fireplace trying to make a fire, while Derek brought out a whisky from his pocket and took some sips. Soon alpha Ammon was back. Surprisingly, he pulled out his long coat and place them on my shoulders. His first act of kindness which I never expected anyway. “Put it on or you are going to freeze to death,’’ he said. Ammon was right, the night was cold and certainly, my torn little blouse will not sustain me through the night.I stared at him briefly before accepting his coat. “What are you going to wear in the absence of your coat?’’
“Let that be my worry and not yours.’’ He watched as I struggled to fit my hands into his cloth. “Hold on let me do it myself for you,’’ he dragged the coat until it covered my whole body.
He sat on the opposite wooden chair. I was yet to sit down even though he had commanded me to do so earlier. We sat down facing each other as Eric returned to take a sit too after making the fire. Derek was already seated a few meters away from us. Our sitting positioning means we could hear what any of us is saying.
“Louis!’’ began the alpha, “you will break my curse this night so, relax and enjoy the whole moment you have right now because in the next few hours you will be removing this burden from me.’’
Alarmed, I wondered if the alpha had forgotten, I had no magic tools with me. He doesn’t believe I’m an amateur witch, who is not capable of carrying out the task he had placed on me. How do I convince him without provocation that I’m not ready for what he's asking for? The wolves had made it clear that my life is in danger if I don’t cooperate with them.
“Once this is over, Milan is going to fight for his life. He will suffer and pay for all the atrocities he had committed against us. The wolves will rise to glory once again. There will be no more traitors to sabotage our progress again,’’ Derek said as he takes the last swallow of his whisky.
Eric eased a smile. Perhaps, they were all impressed with what they had found; I, of course, was the one person they have searching for for years. “That’s right Derek. We can finally go home and regain our place in our wolf clan.’’
“You two are my brothers for life. I wouldn’t have come this far without the help both of you have rendered to me all these years,’’ Ammon looked at them both, as he spoke. “You have been with me through thick and thorn and for that, I owe you my gratitude for life.’’The two wolves nodded to the words of appreciation the alpha had rendered on them. I remained silent and pretended all will go as they had anticipated but then, I thought about their possible reaction when they eventually find out I can’t fulfill their demand. Will they kill me instantly on the spot? Or will they torture me and slowly let me die. Either way of death is not good. I am well aware that, I was living on a borrowed time. They had let me stay alive simply because I had an important role in their quest.
“What do you say if we proceed with the ritual right the way?’’ Asked Eric.
“Let’s give her some time to rest. Now that we have found her, she is all ours. Nothing is obstructing us now,’’ Ammon turned to me, “Louis, do you think we should do as my brothers here have said and have my curse broken as soon as possible?’’
My heart pounded as his eyes were still fixed on me while waiting for my response. “Your wish is my command,’’ I spoke with fear.
“I guess that means we should go ahead without wasting time?’’
“You know what you wanted and only you can get it at your right time,’’ I replied.Ammon glanced at his brothers and continued, “well then, brothers the witch thinks we should proceed with the ritual just like you have recommended,’’ he stood up.‘Is this going to happen? Or was he kidding?’ I asked myself as he walked closer to me. I could smell his breath and feel the beat of his heart. He was not putting on any coat, just a shirt that barely covered his upper body. Just how he was able to stay for long without any thick coat, remained astonishing to me. Well, what can I say, he is an alpha wolf. I have heard so many incredible stories about werewolves. It is said, they are super strong and can do many supernatural fits that mere humans wouldn’t dare to try. ‘Now, this alpha has been limited by the curse which was placed on him a long time ago but still, he is exceptionally strong. I imagined what will happen when his curse is lifted. Perhaps, I will see more supernatural wonders to be displayed by him.
“It’s time witch!’’ said a harsh voice from my back. It was no other person of course, but Derek who has not been kind to me in any way, since the start of an adventurous journey with them. He pulled me up from my chair.
The alpha got up and stepped forward, “you have heard it, Louis. There is no time to waste again and I’m quite sure you had enough rest.’’
Are you kidding me?’ I asked myself in a very low voice. I have barely sat for an hour and now I’m being told that I have had enough rest? I let Derek drag me with no resistance. “Where are you taking me to, outside?’’Eric steps in, “you should perhaps treat her with more kindness. She is about to perform a once-in-a-lifetime task. Let’s just go soft on her so she can be in the right state of mind and health to execute her task. After that, we can do with her as we please.’’
“You have a point, Eric!’’ Derek made me sit down again, forcefully.
As if he cared less about what was going on, Ammon began, “how do we start? I want this to be done as soon as possible.’’I had to make a quick decision and buy myself some time. But how will I do that when they are watching every action I take? I continuously gazed at the woods burning at the fireplace while thinking about what to do. Only the alpha’s loud voice brought my mind back.
“Witch! I’m talking to you,’’ said the alpha. “We have a deal. Do it now or you will face the consequences? Don’t even think about something stupid or you will end up horribly.’’
I knew the alpha’s threat was serious. I will have to come up with a quick plan before the wolves misunderstands my delay tactics as a deliberate unwillingness to cooperate with them. That will lead to a whole turnaround of events.Suddenly, a thought came to me. I was not sure about it but then, I had no choice but to obey my instinctive reasoning. “Step forward!’’ I told the alpha before taking a glance at the other two wolves, “I want them out of the house tonight! The ritual I’m about to perform needs no one to be present but you and I only.’’The wolves were caught unaware by my demand that they should leave me and the Alpha alone in the house if, the spell-breaking ritual must work. They both looked at each other except Ammon whom I guess, was keen to see me do my job rather than showing any interest in the demand I had made."Now tell me one thing why we should leave witch?" Derek began walking closer to me. His eyes were filled with rage as he inches closer. Only he knew what he had in mind at that moment. He held me by the neck, "tell me why we should leave?"For the first time, Eric appears to come to my aid. "“Easy on her! Slow down brother," he told Derek. “Let's us get the clear message she is trying to deliver," now turning to me, he continued, "Are you saying we are unworthy to witness the ritual procession, is that what you mean by ‘we should step outside?”“The words never came out from my mouth but yours. The sooner you adhere to the instruction the quicker we go with the spell-breaking ritual.”I could tell
“Oh no! Look at what you have done now! How could you, after all the warning I gave to you?”I knew what was coming at once and I quickly acted like I was the victim to reduce any possibility of him laying his hands on me with his rage.Like magic, it seems like my trick on him worked. He refrained from raising his voice at me or doing something stupid. "I'm sorry about that Louis. Believe me, I had opened my eyes to remind you about one of the essential parts of the ritual which was missing,” said the Alpha.“There is no point in apologizing because you have ruined the ritual.” we broke the body contact we had through our hands. I watched his face change from moderate to complete sadness. “I only opened my eyes to remind you that no blood was spilled. Practically speaking your blood. It is needed for the ritual according to what Deborah had told us.“That doesn't change anything right now! You ruined it," I insisted.“If this curse of mine can't be broken tonight, then you will not
Quickly, I closed my eyes, folded my palms, and began to cast a spell. No one can hear the words I said, only my lips moved. I cared less to listen to what the wolves were saying at that critical point in time of my life.“Thy hand who strike thee, hand fall short. Fall uncontrolled, ground shall stuck! Breath paused, air blend to water, so mote it be.” I opened my eyes immediately and behold, Derek's right hand was already raised and was set to strike me. Exactly the same time, the empty bottle of the whiskey he had drank earlier shattered into pieces with a bristling sound. His coat was pulled off him and flown across the floor, but he was unharmed in any way. Nevertheless, he carried on with his plan to stab me before the alpha finally intervened.“Stop Derek! There is nothing more to prove, she passed the test. Are you now convinced she is the one?”At once, Derek heeded the Alpha's command and stopped, with frustrations showing on his face. I knew it would have pleased him to ki
They were boldly written on the front book, Magic-Of-The-Ancient. Now, what the hell on earth is a magic book doing in the alpha’s room? He is not a wizard and it doesn’t appear he wants to be one either. I have read so many magic books during my stay with lady Gia nevertheless, I was convinced the book I had seen arranged on the shelf may have a cutting edge over the other books I have read. The more I stared at it was the more the temptation, to hold it in my hands and read every page growing stronger. ‘Should I grab it at once and read it to satisfy my curiosity or should I just ignore it and keep thinking about my miserable life? What about the alpha? How will he react if he suddenly burst into the room unannounced only to find me going through his book?’ I don’t have the right answers to these questions but one thing is for sure, the alpha will never touch a strand of my hair as long as I’m important to him. Especially now that I have offered him a promising solution to his probl
We gazed at each other for some quick seconds with his eyes, dominating mine. “What do you think you are doing witch? I gave you a room to lay your head and now you are invading my personal property? Is that what you do?’’ He began walking closer to the shelf where I had arranged his book. He took it and held it in his palms. Once again, we stood facing each other. That long wicked looks never stopped intimidating me.“m sorry sir. I never mean to do anything that will upset you. I will never go close that again.’’ I lifted my face a bit to meet his but quickly looked down again. The alpha has not acted in the way I had expected him to respond.“Tell me, witch,’’ he began, “have you read any book like this before?’’“No, I have not.’’“Hmmm! That means, it must be strange to you?’’“Yes, but it was interesting.’’He raised his eyebrows, “did you find any piece of written paper in my book?’’‘Should I lie to him and pretend I saw nothing?’ I asked myself. ‘No, that will make the alpha
The alpha gave me a nasty reply but, I was determined. When he saw that I had planned not to go back to my words he nodded in disbelief."You asking me to have an access to our kitchen Tonight and cook dinner for us? Is that what you are saying, Witch? Oh! I knew it. You have a plan to have us poisoned so you could escape. Am I right? Is that not what you are planning to do?"His words came as a surprise to me since I never had any of those things in my mind. "No, that's not correct. How can I bear such in my mind?""It's very possible! look, Witch, we have made you stay with us without your will. We had threatened to have you killed if you don't meet our needs. The option of having you killed has not been taken off the table don forget that? We are your enemies and not your friends. Now tell me why you will poison us if you are allowed to do so?"Alpha Ammon had a strong point on me. I was held by them against my own will. I see why it's not sensible enough not to trust me with the fo
'This is my freedom at last,' I thought. My heart was delighted shortly until I remember I knew no direction to take. The forest of Dengek covered a huge swath of land that I can't measure or determine which part of it is closer to human settlement. Therefore, fleeing at this slight opportunity will be a suicide mission. What I end up being eaten by a wild beast of the night? What if I fell into the hands of very bad people. What if I end up again in the hands-on "Revolutionists" while attempting to flee from many friendly werewolves than they were? That will be catastrophic if I'm ever caught by the zealots again. This time around, they will leave no stone unturned. They may decide to rule off burning me on the stake. After learning from their mistakes, they will never waste their time in having me killed. My head could be chopped off and paraded on the streets back in the town. A disgraceful death. If I think the other way round, with regards to the Werewolves. Should they be caugh
"Hmmm, such a strange tale. Now I have seen why it's not quite different from what has happened between you and us. However, there are also instances of some difference in your story. The boys were not witches but, you were. Therefore, you don't expect the Werewolves to treat a witch the same way they had saved and treated the little fella and his brother," said the Alpha."Why will you say that? I guess you are about to say some ugly shits about my kind," I asked him."You see witch, your kind doesn't deserve any pity. If I should act according to the pain and anger in my heart, there will be no more witches left alive by now. All those I have come across would have been a thing of the past. And that includes you, Louis!"I was speechless at his cold words, but I never let my anger show too much. I simply kept quiet and continued with the dinner I was making while, he looked on."You hate me so much, tell me, don't you Louis? Come on don't deny it""What caused this unprecedented hat
