Kill The Witch!

“Oh no! Look at what you have done now! How could you, after all the warning I gave to you?”

I knew what was coming at once and I quickly acted like I was the victim to reduce any possibility of him laying his hands on me with his rage.

Like magic, it seems like my trick on him worked. He refrained from raising his voice at me or doing something stupid. "I'm sorry about that Louis. Believe me, I had opened my eyes to remind you about one of the essential parts of the ritual which was missing,” said the Alpha.

“There is no point in apologizing because you have ruined the ritual.” we broke the body contact we had through our hands. I watched his face change from moderate to complete sadness.

“I only opened my eyes to remind you that no blood was spilled. Practically speaking your blood. It is needed for the ritual according to what Deborah had told us.

“That doesn't change anything right now! You ruined it," I insisted.

“If this curse of mine can't be broken tonight, then you will not make it out from here unharmed,” his threat was accompanied by a fierce look. “If you don’t get it done soon, you will have to kiss your life goodbye.”

I need not be told what he was talking about. “All hope is not lost but, it will cost you something.’’

"And what could that be?’’ He asked.

“In Muldoch, we have a book that holds the key, too many deep magic secrets. It is said that whoever studies this book and masters it, can perform extraordinary magic arts that no other witch anywhere in the world can do. This book belonged to my mother but, later changed hands. Lady Gia took control of the book when she fled with me and the other Witches from Margarita. I have never been allowed to study this book for an unknown reason but, I believe that if we can lay our hands on it, then we will break your curse.’’

“Why should I trust you witch?"

“Because you have no choice. There is no other way you can break your curse. We need the book.”

The alpha grinned his teeth with a little hatred for me. But I guess, he had no choice but to do what I told him. “How do we get this book?”

“I hid it deep in an underground, in the town where nobody will ever suspect of finding something worthy. If you can sneak me into Murdoch, I will get it back and have your curse broken.”

“How am I sure you are not planning to escape? Do you think you can trick me, witch? It won't end well for you if, you plan to escape from my grip. I can only let you leave in a coffin,” Ammon threatened me yet again.

“How can I even think of escaping when I'm no longer welcomed in Murdoch? Remember the only family I had ever known was wiped out. My life was also about to end by the inhabitants of the town until you showed up with your friends and saved me. So, how can one get saved from a lion's den only to go back to it? Is that even possible? Look, get me in, and I will get the book, and we will leave the town as soon as possible.”

He remained quiet as I spoke. The new expression on his face was more welcoming than previously. It simply means he was beginning to buy into my idea. “When are we leaving Louis?’’

He called my name 'Louis' again after a long while now.

“We will go anytime you are ready.”

“How about us going into that town tonight?”

I was caught unawares by the level of his desperation. Does he want us to go tonight when we just got here and I was exhausted?

“We need to plan it. Going into Muldoch without planning could be dangerous especially, after I escaped from being burned on the stake by them,” I told him. “We will wait and figure out the right day and time.”

“We are not going to wait for a long time witch. We will go when I wanted. I’m in charge not you,” said the Alpha. “Now, can be brothers come in?”

“Yes of course they can,” I replied while he proceeded to the door. He opened it and went outside leaving me standing in the middle of the parlor all by myself.

I smiled and was happy I never did badly in buying enough time for him. I have never opened the Magical book I was about to hunt for. Lady Gia made it clear to me that, I can only study from the book only when I'm able to master ‘The Five basic principles of magic,’ something I have been trying so hard to master for a long time now before her death. Now that I'm faced with a more difficult task I will have to wait no more but proceed directly to getting the knowledge I needed from the book.

Although, Gia did mention something strange about the book. Something she had witnessed and that's what held her back from any further reading of the book. Till her death, she had refused to talk about it. For my part, I was also concerned about this strangeness too but then, the wolves wouldn't listen to me no matter what I tell them.

Just then, the door opened and the wolves came in. I could sense that more tension was building from the look on their faces. Perhaps, they have had some arguments while outside the house. No doubt, they talked about me. I had no choice but to change my standing position and sit again on one of the wooden chairs.

Derek was the first among the three wolves to sit down. His face was burning with hate as he gazed at me.

Next, the alpha sat down. This time, he appeared quiet while, Eric crossed his arms and kept standing. All of them were staring at me.

“I ask you again brother, can we trust this Witch? Is she capable of breaking your curse?” Asked Derek.

“Derek, can we maintain some moments of silence. I can't argue with you again on this matter,” the alpha replied.

Erica began walking in my direction, “Tell me, Witch, what makes this book you talked about so unique, and are you sure that's the only way to end this?”

“I believe the books hold the answer to what you seek,” I answered.

“Why did you send us out after claiming our presence will disrupt the ritual procession for breaking his curse?” Derek finally, cuts in.

“Oh, he didn't tell you? He ruined it and that spell can only be used once in a while. It will take a long time to build such a spell again if it must be effective. You see, that's the reason why I offered him a solution that is easier to go about.”

“And you think ‘getting the book option’ is the best way to end this?" Eric continued.

“Something tells me you are trying to escape Witch? Don't even think about it. Your life will end in an instant if you ever attempt to do that,” warned Derek.

“How many times will I be threatened?” I charged for the first time. My new source of boldness came from the alpha's deliberate silence as I talked with his wolf brothers. I had him where I wanted.

“Ammon, she is not a witch as we thought! She has fooled us all along! We should have her wasted now! She is not the one you seek. We have been wasting our whole time with her,” Derek stared continuously at Ammon as he talked trash about me.

I was expecting the alpha to take my side because of his obvious desperation to have his curse broken. I was wrong! That never came to pass this time around. Instead, he nodded to everything Derek was telling him. The Alpha's action left me with the shock of my life, for I thought I have had him where I wanted.

“Go ahead and kill her! She is a fake witch! She is not the one we seek. We can have her killed now,’’ Alpha Ammon stared at me while he spoke. I can read that the expression on his face has changed drastically. He meant every word he said.

To that, Derek got up from his seat and smiled wickedly at me. It could only mean one thing; my life has come to an end. My heart began to pound uncontrollably as I trembled in great fear. It was convincing enough, I will not escape death this time around.

As I watched, Derek dug deep into his pocket and brought out a sharp dagger, held it in his right hand, and started walking slowly towards me while Alpha Ammon and Eric simply looked on.
