Mysterious Ash (Natalie)

2025-03-10 18:52:22Slowly Ash climbs into the driver’s side of the vehicle and starts the car. At first there’s an awkward silence, because neither one of us knows the other. So Ash decides to start the conversation.
“That was the best punch I have ever seen.’ At this point I’m too confused to reply because I have a billion thoughts going through my head, but he continues on without any comment from me anyway. “He didn’t even see it coming. I don’t think he was expecting you to punch him even though he was being a douche bag. At first I think he thought I was the one that punched him because he was looking at me and his eyes were screaming bloody murder. You were amazing, I didn’t think he would go so low to punch a girl, but I apparently was wrong about that too. I knew if he hit you that second time you would have got really injured so I jumped in front.” he concludes. This makes me lift my eyes to meet his. This stranger actually took a hit for me, a stranger I don’t even know, took a hit for me! I don’t know what to say to him so I ask “Are you new here in Frostvale? He gives me a sideways glance because he is still driving before deciding he can answer “Yes I am new here. How did you know?” “Well” I say “I have lived here for 17 years and I have never seen a bright red convertible Camaro.” At that answer he just smiles a cheeky, devilish smile. So I say “Who are you staying with?” instantly his smile disappears “Sorry, I can’t answer that right now.” Well that’s interesting I think to myself. Before he asks in a serious tone of voice “Would it be okay if we pull over and have a talk?” What the hell is going on here, something tells me he has a secret. “Sure” is all I say. As Ash pulls the car to a stop, he looks over at me with a strange smile, a knowing smile. Ash reaches out and grabs my hand with both of his and says “I don’t know where to begin, so this might take a while.” I shuffle around a bit trying to get comfortable for this long chat. When he begins he starts with everything I should know about him “My full name is Ash Samuels and I am 18 years old. My family died when I was 16 so I have been living on my own ever since. I have just started college here and I live at number 15 Hero Road, just a block over from where you pulled out.” Well, to say I was expecting that would have been a lie. I am over come with a large amount of sadness for this boy that I am just getting to know. I have a sudden impulse to climb over the centre of the car and sit on his lap. So that’s what I do! Hoping that it will provide a bit of comfort. It’s uncomfortable to begin with because Ash is so tense from sharing just a small part of his being but he soon relaxes. Slowly as if unsure if it is the right move he puts his arms around my waist and rests them on my stomach. His arms are tense to begin with, slightly squeezing me thinking I might pull away, but I don’t I just lay my head back and relax while he explains his mysterious secret. “You may think I’m crazy but please just listen and don’t say anything unless I ask okay?” Instead of saying anything, I just nod my head so he knows I understand. He continues. “It started when I was 15, at first I didn’t understand what was going on I didn’t want to tell my parents in case they thought I had a mental disability. So I continued to go through it on my own until it became too much.” he pauses to take a breath, but before he can start talking again I put my hand up, like you do at school to ask or answer a question. I turn around in his arms so that I’m straddling his waist and look at him waiting to see if he will let me ask my question. He nods his head slightly telling me to continue. “What was it that started when you were 15?” I ask politely. Ash takes a moment to decide if he should answer that straight away. “It was nightmares. They started when I was 15 I would see these most hideous beast, animal’s that can only be found in your imagination. Most of the time I would be in the woods of a mountain called Aurelia Spires and I would have a weapon to kill them with like a bow and arrow or a long sword and a shield. Then a week before I turned 16 I had a dream about being out with my friend in the woods, we were camping there and this beast emerged from the bushes. I still remember the screams coming from my friend as the monster rips him to shreds before I have a chance to do anything. The monster looked like a bear but bigger, it had the head of a reptile and its colouring was so dark; it looked like no light would ever penetrate it. Its feet were the size of small tyres and the claws were like 20 cms long. The only colour on its body was its scarlet red eyes that stared at me knowing that I was defenceless. But the dream didn’t really have an ending it just randomly went black and I woke up in my bed at home. That’s when I realised something was wrong.” He looks at me waiting for me to jump off him and call him crazy but I don’t. He nearly had the exact same dream as me. I think, would my dream had of ended the same way if I had not been expecting its attack, I don’t know, so I say. “Now your said that I think I’ve had the same dream.” Saying this makes him focus on me for the first time. “I thought you were special this morning but I didn’t have enough time to assess you while you were in the car.” What does he mean by me being special, well yes I do look completely different from my family and yes sometimes I think I’m crazy but what does he mean by special? Before I can interrupt his train of thought he continues “During that week before I turned 16 I researched all I could, it wasn’t much but it was enough to survive. During that week I learnt that I am known as a “Ma vista” meaning - with sight - in English. There are only three people in the entire world that can be called this, they have a job and it is to rid the world of these monstrous beasts before they over whelm the world and take over. Many people think 1 of the 3 people that posses this power use it to help the beasts. Right now I am chasing this person but I never knew I would run into the other Ma vista today.” He stops waiting for me to figure it out but I already had reached this conclusion and I believe him. So I nod proving that I understand what he has said, he seems taken a back at how quickly I believed him but he continues without questioning me “It is said that if the two Ma vista’s meet that aren’t evil, that it is the dawn of the new beginning and that those two people will have a life together until they rid the world of the demon beasts and only then, can the world be at peace. If this is accomplished and the evil Ma vista is dead, they will live forever immortal because they are no longer in danger.” he concludes. Wow. “I think we need to do some research…”

For a long while we just sit there in each other’s company, I look at the time and see that it’s all most 7pm. We’ve just been hanging in the car for more than 9 hours. I pull the car to a stop and get out. It’s still smoky outside and it is quite hard to breath, at first I can’t see were the damage is, a few trees have been pulled out of the ground and some of them look like they have been sawn in half. I try to look at the houses more closely, but the smoke is too thick. House after house has gained a little lean to the left, leaning away from where it exploded. I can’t hear anyone moving around outside. Has everyone died? I don’t know what to think about it. As I continue walking to my house I see that none of our neighbours were home, well that’s suspicious. Slowly I come into view of my house, or where my house should have been. Nothing. Everything that I owned, everyone I love appears to be gone. I don’t believe my eyes. This can’t be happening. As I walk through the ash’s of what use to be my house I suddenly hear an ear splitting scream. While we are eating breakfast, I get a text from Alexandria. The beeping scares the life out of me. When I comprehend that it’s my phone I run over to the kitchen bench and grab it. The text reads ‘Natalie are you okay? Please text me back as soon as you get this. We need to talk.’ Then in brackets it says ‘(If you are not dead – Please don’t be dead!)’ Quickly I type a message. ‘Yes, I’m alive but the rest of my family is gone. Don’t know what to do. Would you like to meet up somewhere?’ The reply comes less than a minute later. ‘I’m so sorry about your family. Yes, I would love to meet up. When and where?’ ‘I need new clothes and living supplies, plus I have $2,000 dollars to spend, so I call a shopping spree. Meet you at the mall in 20 minutes. When we leave the mall, I head back to Ash’s place to put my new clothes away. Then I pack for the night at Alex’s, as I finish packing I head down to say goodbye to Ash. When I walk into the kitchen and don’t find him I begin to panic. I walk through the whole house but don’t find him, when I finally get to his bedroom I can hear shuffling around. I guess that he wants to be left alone so I walk towards the front door. After two steps I hear him call my name and his bedroom door opens, I turn around just in time to see him emerge from his dark bedroom. “I’m going to Alex’s now so I just come to say goodbye and goodnight.” “What do you mean goodbye?” He asks suddenly distressed “Only that I won’t see you for the rest of the day, so I was saying goodbye.” “Okay.’’ he replies a bit happier, glad that goodbye was not forever. I throw my arms around his neck, holding on because on the inside I feel like I’m missing something. We will probably have to research it but maybe I’m starting to fall for him or maybe it’s both and maybe he feels the same way as I do. I don’t know how long he holds me but I don’t let go either, when we finally release each other we are both smiling. I look down at the ground trying to hide the sadness in my eyes. When we leave the car is in complete silence. It takes us half an hour to get to the library, so the silence lasts that long. Sometimes I would mumble the words to a song on the radio, Ash would sometimes as well. When we get there he only says, “We need a computer and access to informative books.” We choose to work separately because of what happened this morning, I start with the computer and Ash starts with the books. I log in and start searching. I search the word “Ma Vista” and a whole heap of websites come up. I search through some of them but after an hour I start to get restless, it isn’t until I find the website ‘What are Ma Vista’s and what do they do?’ that I get excited. I click on it and read the first paragraph; it has what Alex said to me two days ago. As I continue to read I come across new information, so I call out to Ash. My day of freedom ends up being used to stay in bed all day and that night, Ash sleeps in my bed again. This morning when we woke up, we got out of bed straight away because today is “learn to defend yourself and kill your enemy” day. I am extremely nervous about this training thing but it needs to be done. When I am getting dressed I go through a drawer of cloths and pick out a black long sleeve shirt and black tights, then I grab a pair of Alex’s shoes and a pair of socks. When I finish getting dressed I head to the bathroom and wash my face then I pull my hair up into a tight ponytail so it won’t get in the way. When I am finished I meet Ash out the front with the cars. We choose to take his car because it’s better for long distance travel. It takes us two hours to get to this place, which is in the woods and hardly has anyone there so at least we won’t be embarrassed. Walking into the little cafeteria, lunch smells amazing and my grumbling tummy agrees. Ash and I both get servings of salad, potato bake, pasta salad and some meat, which include chicken, sausages and ham. I eat lunch at a leisurely pace not wanting the time to end, but it does and we are moving quickly back to the training compound. Riley said we would be doing more of the basic hand-to-hand combat but he never said we would be using boxing bags. My knuckles are going to be raw after today. He demonstrates how to punch the bag because it movies when you hit it. Finally we are allowed to hit the bags, and they are heavier than they look. While Riley is talking to Ash I try to kick it but I completely miss I steal a glance at them to see if they notice but I don’t think they did. When Riley starts to watch me I see a sense of approval in his facial expressions. Then I look back up at my dad, he seems worried, really worried. The light from the sun is starting to disappear so it must be getting late. He glances back in the direction that I just ran off in, before turning and sprinting off in the opposite direction. After running a kilometre or so, I realise that we are at the same clearing that Natalie found Ash in. Dad keeps looking around, and as I follow the direction of his gaze I finally see what a monster looks like. I can’t tell if it is because I can see with dad’s eyes or if the master is allowing me to see it. But it is the most grotesque thing I have ever seen in my life, slowly the monster approaches, it’s massive. The colour of it is so dark it’s looks like it is as black as night, with the most crimson eyes I have every seen. Dad grabs an arrow and aims it at the monster. Nightmare Finding Lyrica (Cooper)
As soon as the battle started, everyone was lost in the fray, I saw Natalie run in one direction and Ash tried to follow but I am guessing to many monsters had crowded him because he had to stop and all I could see was the light reflecting off his sword as he cut them down, well I think he cut them down. I decide to stick with Lyrica, more so now after our new relationship has bloomed. I see people being cut down everywhere, most injured but others it’s hard to tell. I also see a lot of sand bags bursting as they hit the hidden monsters. It doesn’t take long before Lyrica and I are standing back-to-back, surround by the invisible monsters. I swing my sword sometimes I feel the hit but other times it only feels like air. My sword just seems to never find a purchase; I can tell that Lyrica is finding it to be quite frustrating as I hear her swinging her sword and hearing the sound of the air swishing past the shape blade. By the time we have everyone up and in the lounge room we have lost half an hour. Everyone looks panicked and unfocused. “Alright guys, the time has come for us to band together to beat this evil that has descended upon us.” With that I grab Ash’s hand and walk towards the front door, they quickly fall into step behind me. We walk onto the street and then onto the main high way that runs through Frostvale. I make sure that everyone still has all their weapons as well as their sand bags and then we stand in a line, restricting any of the monsters to penetrate further into the town. We stand for close to maybe an hour, waiting, just waiting for any sign of movement or panic. While Ash and I are collecting the last weapons from the garage to hand out among the fighters, I am struck by a message, and it doesn’t take me long to realise that I am not meant to hear it. A small voice in the back of my head calling me “Come now monsters join the battle, I need you here now. It’s been a long time since we have had the chance to destroy the Ma Vista’s and that time has come.” The voice stops. I look at Ash; he must see the horror in my face, because he immediately drops the weapons that are in his hands and runs over to me. We lay tangled in each other’s arms for what feels like ages before I finally decide that I should have a shower, and I disentangle myself from him. Then suddenly a thought of a Blue monster flicks through my mind. Nightmare Finally Together (Natalie)
The escape from the house was easier then expected, as we race across the yard there are no monster insight. Blue had chosen the right moment for my escape, and now I owe him. Once we are outside the houses boundaries Blue pulls up and stops running, which causes me to dive to the side to prevent running into the ginormous monster, and even though he is young he is still quite big. “This is where we must disappear.” I look at him, and nod, “Okay.” He grabs me under the shoulders and under my knees then lifts me up before we disappear. Disappearing is so weird; it’s so hard to explain. I feel wind pushing against my face; it pushes me back against Blue. I can’t see anything, it’s just black all around and yet I can’t actually tell if my eyes are open or closed. All I can hear is Blue’s breathing, there is no wind blowing and yet I can feel it against my face. There is no smell; actually I don’t think I am breathing. Quickly I dial Riley’s number and wait for him to pick up. “Hello, who is it?” “Hey Riley, it’s Ash.” “Yep, what’s happening?” “I need you and your friends to come back to my house, are you nearly finished with all the sand?” “Yeah, we are about to leave.” “Great I have sent Lyrica to get bags to put the sand in, and I have also got one of Natalie’s friends out collecting people that are willing to fight for our cause.” “That’s great, okay well I will meet you at your house in about 10.” “Okay that sounds great, so where did you get the sand from?” “I know this person that works at the zoo, and he said I could take some sand from the enclosures.” “Perfect, okay see you soon.” “Yep, bye.” “Bye.” As soon as he hangs up I walk into the kitchen and sit down. This would be so much easier with Natalie here; I hope she is okay and that the master and the monsters haven’t hurt her. I can’t wait until I can have her in my arms again, and this time I don’t plan on letting go. The
