Alexis's POV

I was lying down on my bed, reading a book Elara had brought for me from the Library when I heard a knock on my door. I opened up and the guard told me Alpha Kane had asked for my presence immediately. I was surprised. It was late at night already, and I had already settled into my bed trying to read a book to make me sleep. So, when they knocked on the door and told me that Alpha Kane had summoned me, my heart sank. And couldn't help but ask myself. What could he possibly want with me at this hour?

I tried to push hard to push away the rising fear as they led me through the dimly lit hallways. The mansion was silent, the kind of silence that made every footstep echo loudly which was only making me feel more tense from my stomach. By the time we reached his quarters, my hands were trembling, my mind racing with questions of why he would summon me late at night. I tried to push my fear aside.
