Aria's POV

I knew I should have killed him before. As I walked deeper into the woods, my senses sharpened, detecting his presence growing nearer. Once I found him, I would seize his breath, watching as he helplessly begged for air while he died.

Arriving at the abandoned building where the spell I had cast directed me, I took a cautious step toward the entrance. Just as I was about to enter, Tabitha emerged from the shadows.

"Tabitha, oh thank God, you're..." My words trailed off as suspicion flickered in my mind. "Wait, why are you here?"

Tabitha took a deep breath, her expression pained. "I wished it never came to this."

"What did you do?" I demanded, my voice rising. "Don't tell me you're the one who freed him."

"I had no other choice, Aria," Tabitha confessed, her voice wavering. "This is too much. We are endangering people. It doesn't have to be like this. Let's just go b—"
