Becca's POV

I turned, and there he was, lying peacefully. I could stare at him all day. My eyes studied his face; he looked so serene, so untroubled. If only he could look like this all the time, free from worry about anything or anyone.

"I'm sorry," I whispered, as I gently got up from the bed, careful not to wake him.

Heading to the shower, I allowed the water to flow down my body, memories of my conversation with Darius replaying in my mind.

Flashback

"We need to talk," I said, my voice steady despite the churning anxiety inside me.

Darius looked at me, taking a seat as he crossed his legs. His eyes held a glint of amusement. "I'm all ears."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. "Are you ever going to stop locking Bas up?"

Darius's lips curled into a faint, mocking smile. "It's not my fault he's being a pain in the ass. All he has to do is get you pregnant and fulfill the prophecy. How hard could it be?"
