A sour Snack

Thirty minutes had passed since the time I asked Xavier to meet up with me and he hadn’t shown up. A part of me feared being recognized as the one behind the call. I tried to shove it away, but when a server approached me to remind me to make an order, I knew I had to call him.

“Get me a bottle of water for a start,” I said to the man who disappeared behind the counter.

I picked up my phone to make the call, but then the door of the cafe swung open, and Xavier walked in. My mind became calm, but when I saw him with Guilia, I swallowed hard. She wasn’t going to take it lightly with me, so I braced myself for her meltdown.

I tried to slow down my racing heart, hoping she wouldn’t do something stupid.

They both walked towards me with their hands intertwined, signaling an unbreakable union. For a moment, I questioned myself about what I was doing, but then I was already here, so there was no going back.

“Babe, I think you should have met Elowen. She is my father’s wife,” she said,
