It was hard being the only sane person around at the moment. Dante was supposed to lead, but now I was trying to get him out of a mess that he created, even though he didn’t seem to care.

After trying to get back on the phone with Guilia, I gave up and walked back to the living room.

Halfway there, Dante’s phone rang, and it was an unknown number. I knew picking it was wrong, but he was drunk. After a while of contemplating, I clicked the green icon, placing the phone on my ear.

“The work is done and I would like my payment please,” someone said, ending the call before I could say a word.

My heart beat heightened, and I prayed it wasn’t what I thought it was. With trembling hands, I walked towards Dante, who was at the bar, sitting on a stool with his head on the wooden counter.

“You are here,” he smiled, and I tossed his phone on the table.

“Your hit man called, and it might interest you to know that your friend Xavier is dead.”
