Chapter 2

On a sleeping pad, Maya was shivering, as she shook her head side to side, a trickle of tears rolled down her eyelines without her knowledge. "Please," she muttered out as she clenched the thin fabric covering her sleeping pad. She was jolted out of her sleep as she felt a rush of cold water poured on her body. She gasped in shock as she sat up, and wiping her eyes to see clearly, she stared at her drenched body, and then looked at the perpetrator of the act.

There Emily stood, with one hand akimbo, and an empty pail dangling in her other hand. "Wake up, lazy brat," she spat out viciously.

"What the hell, Emily? Was that really necessary?" Maya asked her, as she tried to catch her breath, not just from the coldness of the water, but also from the dream she was jolted out of.

"You deserve more than that for still being in bed by this hour. Now, get up you daughter of a nitwit, and begin your chores," Emily said.

Maya stared hard at her. "You're not the one to give me orders to carry out. You're not the mistress," she said, and clenched her teeth together.

Emily grew incredulously furious. "What did you say?" She asked, fuming. "How dare you speak to me in such manner, you daughter of a beggar," she said angrily.

Maya lifted up a defiant chin. She has had enough of Emily's early morning tantrums. "If I am a daughter of a beggar, what are you, Emily?" Maya asked, and narrowed her eyes in annoyance. "You're the daughter of a bitch. A low class bitch," she said, and a little smile formed at the corner of her lips when she saw the shocked expression on Emily's face, but the smile was wiped off when Emily suddenly grabbed her by the neck, and Maya held her hand to prevent her from choking her.

"How dare you, you little swine? I'll make sure the Luna hears about this," she said, and Maya's eyes dared her to, even if she knew she would, and just then, someone walked into the room.

"What's going on here?" The voice said, and Maya swallowed hard knowing who the person was, as her aura of power always cloud a room.

Emily became hysterical as she let go of her neck and turned around to face her. "Luna," she courtsied.

"I asked a question, Emily, and I don't want to repeat myself," Riley Reid, the Luna of the Oasis pack said.

"It's Maya, Luna. She was still sleeping and I came to wake her up, and she called my late mother a bitch," Emily explained, as fake tears glistened in her eyes.

"Did you tell her about the water you poured on me, and how you called my late mother a..." Maya began but Riley cut her short.

"Zip it. I do not want to hear it," Riley said, as she frowned at Maya. She stared at her body glistening with water, and her hatred and jealousy for Maya raged in her heart. How could a lowlife omega have a body of a goddess? She wondered, and all her plans since Maya was left with her by her mother, was to disfigure her. No one should be more prettier than her daughters. But, with each of her attempts, she manages to heal without a scar despite her wolf not surfacing.

Riley took a deep breath. "I will condone your behavior for today. I will not let you ruin today for me," she said as she eyed Maya, who kept her eyes down. Looking at Riley in the eye always got her a stinging slap, and she had learnt the hard way never to look at Riley whenever she was talking, over the years. "I want you to get up now, and begin preparations. We're having some guests. Famous alphas are coming to pick my daughters as their bride," she said enthusiastically, and with so much pride.

Then, she frowned as she stared at Maya again. "After your chores and the preparations, lock yourself in here, and don't show your pathetic ugly face downstairs till they're all gone," Riley said, and when she got no response from Maya, she went closer to her, and pulled her hair. "Am I clear on that?" She demanded.

Maya nodded, as she felt pains in her head. "Yes, Luna," she said, and Riley pushed her away from her, and walked away.

Emily smiled triumphantly. "Get to work," she said, and eyed Maya before walking away.

Maya ignored her as she got up. She was very aware that the Luna would be in support of Emily, despite her also being her omega. Emily was Riley's favorite, and till now, Maya had no idea why. She only knew that, on the other hand, she was the most hated, and for what reason, she had no idea too.

She inhaled deeply as she changed her wet clothes. Her mind drifted back to her dream, and she shuddered. She could not recall the faces she saw in the dream, but, the impact the dream had on her was alarming.

We better get to work before Emily comes back here and put us in more trouble, her wolf, Alysia said to her. No one had an idea that her wolf had already surfaced.

Maya walked out of the room as soon as she was dressed in a thin flimsy fabric, and went downstairs. Decorations were already being hanged in the pack house. Omega maids like her were already scrubbing the floors and walls to ensure that everywhere was sparkling clean.

The alphas coming must really be important, for the Luna to order for the cleaning of the walls, Alysia said to her.

Maya scoffed, they have no idea what they're getting into, she said to her.

Maya quickly joined them, before she would get a tongue lashing from anyone of the alpha's family. The other omegas frowned when they noticed she had joined them.

Although, they were all omegas like her, they despised her too. She ignored their daggered glares at her and when she was done cleaning the floors, she stood up, and turned to walk towards the pack house door when she slipped and fell flat on her face. She let out a gasp, as she winced in pain.
