Maya groggily opened her eyes, and her eyes were still dazed as she slowly looked around. She placed her hand on her head and let out an audible hiss. "Where am I?" She asked no one in particular, as her eyes began to adjust to the unfamiliar dimly lit room.
"My room." Grey's voice came from the opposite direction, and she turned sharply to him. Her twin pool brown velvet eyes dilated as horror washed all over her. She had thought everything about Grey taking her away was a nightmare, she had just woke up from.
Grey's cold icy blue eyes met hers. His lips was pursed in a thin line, as he stared at her. "Why did you faint?" He asked her.
"Is there ever a reason why someone would faint?" She asked with a frown on her face, as she looked away from him, and when her eyes met his again, she wished the ground would just open and swallow her whole. The look on Grey's face at her sarcastic reply was not pleasant. If looks could kill, she could have been dead. She swallowed hard and looked down at her fingers. Suddenly, they were the most enchanting things she could look at. It was better than having to meet with the murderous look of the man sitting on an armchair, a few feet away from her, with an aura that was suffocating. One day, my big mouth will get me into trouble, she thought within herself.
Grey kept staring at her, and for a few fleeting seconds, his expression softened. He was amused at how she could talk back at him without an hint of fear in her, unlike the other women he has seen or being with.
As Maya locked her fingers together, her stomach grumbled, and the sound was so embarrassing that she could not even look up at Grey. She was sure he heard it, as she slightly raised her head to see him standing up.
He walked out of the room without saying a word to her, and Maya heaved as she slapped her forehead. "Why is all these happening to me?" She murmured to herself.
Almost immediately, the door to the room opened, and Maya lifted her head up to see an omega bearing a golden tray in her hand, and on the tray was a plate of jambalaya pasta, sauced chicken, sweet corn salad and a glass of juice. Maya salivated, and did her best to hide it.
The omega placed the tray on the bedside table, and curtsied. "For you, my queen," she said, and surprise was evident on Maya's face.
"Uh? For me?" She found herself saying, and the omega nodded with a little smile.
"Th-thank you," Maya stuttered, and the omega curtsied again, and walked away.
Maya could hardly believe it, as she picked up the tray to stare at the meal before her. She had never had such meals before, according to Emily, it was for royals and few privileged people.
What she was fed with at the Oasis pack was, mostly brown bread, and water, sometimes oats, and leftover rice. Never has she even tasted meat before, and knew not the feeling.
She wondered how the omega got into the room quickly, when Grey had barely left. Her thoughts about it all immediately vanished, as she sank her teeth into the chicken, and threw her head back, relishing in the taste of it in her mouth.
Grey poured himseleave.glass of vodka from the winery just as the salutary walked in. "Alpha," he greeted, and Grey only raised his glass in acknowledgement to his greetings, before taking a sip from it. He walked away from the winery, towards the direction of the living room. "I have gotten the medications," the salutary said to him.
Grey sat on the white couch and gestured to the ceramic glass table in front of him, and the placed the medications on it, and stood there, waiting for further instructions.
"You may leave." Grey finally spoke since he walked in.
The salutary nodded, and walked away. Grey held his glass and stared at it, as he recalled the words when he had called him to check on Maya, as soon as he got her into his room.
"What happened to her? Why did she faint?" Grey asked, trying to sound casual about the matter.
"She had fainted from exhaustion, and malnutrition. She'll wake up in a few minutes. It also seems like she has suffered some severe maltreatment emotionally and physically which has caused her to breakdown. I'll keep checking on her to affirm this perception," the salutary said as he examined Maya. "She'll need a lot of rest." He added.
Grey took a sip from his glass again. How could a fiesty woman like Maya with a sharp shrewish tongue suffer maltreatment? He scoffed. The salutary probably didn't know what he was talking about. He had even asked her why she fainted, and all she could do was give him a sarcastic reply. The nerves! He thought, as he let out a low hiss.
Maya finished everything in the dishes, and for the first time, her stomach thanked her, as a loud belching sound rumbled out of her throat, and she quickly covered her mouth with her hand.
She slowly got up to her feet, and walked towards the door, holding the tray of empty plates in her hands, and as she opened it, she bumped into the omega that had brought the meal to her.
"My queen," the omega curtsied. "Let me." She said as she took the tray from her.
Maya smiled a little. The way she was called a high ranked name made her feel uncomfortable. "Please, call me Maya." She said.
The omega shook her head. "The alpha would have my head on a stake if I do so, I'm afraid," she said, looking down at her feet.
It reminded Maya so much of herself at the Oasis pack, as she nodded. "What's your name?" She asked.
"Gwen," she said. "I must leave now." Gwen said, as she turned on her heels. She didn't want to be seen conversing with the Luna, so as not to incur the wrath of her alpha.
Maya sighed as she walked back into the room. She fell flat on the bed, and sighed at the softness. For the first time, she was sleeping on a real bed, and not a sleeping pad. She closed her eyes for a few minutes, and opened it when she thought of Grey. If this was his room, why was he not here? Why was she here?
Maya's eyes fluttered, as the sun rays filtered through the window, and rested on her face. She stifled a yawn, as she stretched lazily. For the first time in years, she had a somewhat peaceful night rest. The bed had been so soft that she could barely keep her eyes open. Occasionally, she was bothered by the fact that she was in Grey's room, and he could walk in at any moment, and either drag her out, or force her to stay in the bed with him. That would be nice, her wolf, Alysia said in a cocky way.Shut up, you should be thinking of ways to escape this place, and not dirty thoughts, Maya said, scolding her.She looked at the other side of the bed, and realized that Grey had not showed up in the room since last night. She had just being worried without a reason. Did I inconvenience him? She thought aloud. She got up from the bed, and since she got into Grey's room, she was finally able to notice the details his room entails. She noticed his walls were a color of dark grey, and the lo
Grey stared at her unable to fathom why he had said that to her. He was tempted to run his fingers in her wet hair, but decided against it, as he walked towards the bed, and picked up the dress laid out for her. He walked up to her, and thrusted the dress into her hands. "Get dressed, and come down for breakfast," he said, and walked towards the door, and as he opened it, he added. "Ten minutes," he said, and walked out of the room without looking back.Maya let out the breath she had no idea she had been holding. She placed her hand on her chest, and could feel her heartbeat accelerating. How could one person make her fear so much? She wondered.Just then, the three omegas walked in again. "Luna, please let's proceed. We have to be quick. The alpha said ten minutes." Gwen said."O-okay," Maya said, too flustered to respond properly, as her mind flashed back to what just happened a minute ago."What do you want?" She asked."You," he said, with a look she had never seen before. What w
Grey raised an eyebrow as he stared from Eli to the rest of the elders. "Why?" He asked."She's an omega, alpha," Eli said.Grey tapped on his glass of wine on the table. "Your point exactly?" He asked."An omega cannot, and will never be our Luna," he said."I'm sorry, alpha, but, that's just how it has to be." John interjected.Grey raised a brow, his back still pressed in his seat. "Really?" He asked, and they nodded in agreement, including the omegas standing a few feets away.Grey folded his hands together, as his icy blue eyes were fixed on them. "Y'all know I do whatever I please," he said, and they nodded, having zero idea of where he was heading with his words. "But then, I decided to do this one thing y'all asked of me, as a sign of respect, and here you all are, telling me otherwise," he said, a blank expression on his face. Maya said nothing as she kept her eyes on her fingers, her ears wide open to understand all what was going on before her, and her heart thudding in her
Gwen noticed the change in Maya's demeanor, and she went closer to her. "Are you okay, Luna?" She asked worriedly.Maya gave a slight nod. "I'm just trying to... catch..." She began to say, feeling her eyes closing. "My breath," she said in a hush voice, before slipping down on the floor."Luna!" Gwen said, falling to her knees, as she shook Maya, trying to revive her. "Look what you've caused!" She said, shooting Cora a hard glare, and then looked at Maya with a panicked expression on her face. "Oh, my. I wonder what the alpha would do to us once he finds out we caused the Luna to faint," Gwen said, as she held Maya's hand, trying to pull her up. "Help me take her to the alpha's room," she added, but Cora scoffed, and walked away. One by one the other omegas did the same thing too.Gwen was trying her best to pick Maya up, but was failing. Soon, she got help when the salutary walked into the house in an accord to check up on Maya.He sighted Gwen struggling with Maya, and rushed to h
Maya stood by the window examining the distance between the window and the ground outside. Her eyes darted left and right to see if there was any warrior in sight, and indeed there was. Earlier this morning there was less of them, but as the blue sky had turned grey with twinkling stars, there was more than seven warriors in sight. There was no way she could successfully scale through the wall of the window without being seen. She groaned hard. Perhaps she should try running away very early tomorrow morning. She groaned hard again. "Another night in this place," she said in dismay, and heaved gravely. "It's just one night. It wouldn't be that bad." She said trying to reassure herself. She turned away from the window, and immediately her body stiffened by who she saw resting his lithe frame on the wall. Her breathing quickened, and her knees buckled, as her eyes met his."What do you mean by one night left?" He asked her with a blank expression on his face. She swallowed. She was quite
"Why?" Grey asked her, with a rare puzzled look on his face.Maya looked away from him as she shrugged. "How am I supposed to know?" She asked him. After all, the salutary had not come to see her. He had only come at the right time when she fainted."Did he check on you?" Grey asked her, as he recalled the salutary saying he was going to come check on Maya to know if she was alright, and to confirm whatever presumption he had of her.She looked at him, and hugged her arms to herself, shaking her head. "No," she said. She would not tell him about the bully she got from the omegas."Well then," he said, as he shrugged his shoulders a little. "Do you want to have dinner now?" He asked her.She stared at him wondering why he was bothered about her not eating. It felt as if he heard her as he eyed her from head to toe. "You look extremely thin," he said to her in sarcasm. She frowned at him. "I'm not thin. I'm lean, okay?" She said."Dinner?" He asked her, playing dumb to her words. She wa
"You know, tonight reminds me of the first time we met, right at the sphere of this waterfall," he whispered softly with a smile on his face, and his arm entwined with hers, as they walked towards the waterfall. She giggled and whispered into his ears "I had sent a flaming spear to kill you, remember?" He grinned. "But, you didn't. You were mesmerized by my eyes." "Maybe," she replied with a happy tone. They got to the sphere of the waterfall, and he held her hand, and brought it to his lips. She smiled at him."I'll never get tired of seeing your beautiful face, my love," he said to her."Even if I turn old, wrinkling and grey?" She asked him."You'll look even more beautiful in my eyes," he said as his lips lingered on her hand."Oh, Verne," she laughed, and as he let go of her hand, she wrapped her arms around him. "I love you, always, now and forever.""I love you more Alyssa. More than you can ever imagine," he said to her as he placed a kiss on her forehead."Emperor!" Someone
Maya regained herself and began to struggle in his arms. "Let go of me!" She yelled out as she tried to break free, but, Grey didn't relinquish his hold on her. His grip on her waist tightened more than before."Stop annoying me," he said in a brittle tone."I don't want to be here!" Maya yelled, fighting him off. "I want to be anywhere but here!" She kept yelling. In furious annoyance, he swung her over his shoulder like she was just a bag of feathers, and walked in the direction of the pack house. "Let go of me!" Maya kept yelling as she let out her frustration on him. She kicked, scratched, hit, and clawed his skin.Grey held onto her, bearing her onslaught, as he continued walking without halting a second to make her stop the fuss she was making. He was furious at her for actually going on with the plan that she had formed in her head. She has only been in the pack house for a day. What pain has she gone through to decide to run away? He hasn't even been cruel to her. If anything,
