58. I Like Her

"Why did you take me away?" Caterina asked when they arrived at an underground passage connected to one of the old buildings.

"Even though I could have killed him. Didn't you see that we had succeeded in paralyzing his troops?" She continued. The woman was still upset because she failed to kill Leo.

Marco didn't answer. Just seeing the many wounds on Caterina's body made him weak, especially if he saw the woman dead there. The fear of losing made Marco decide to withdraw. The man just wanted to be with Caterina longer and make lots of memories together as good friends.

Caterina was still grumbling the whole way through the underground passage. Meanwhile, Marco only occasionally responded with a smile.

When they came out of the secret door in the old building, Marco's men who knew the secret code were seen waiting for the two of them. The car used to take them back to the mansion had also been prepared. Caterina was secretly amazed by everything Marco had prepared.

“What building is this? Why are some of your men already waiting for us as if they knew we would arrive here?” Caterina couldn't hide her curiosity.

“This building was once the largest drug manufacturing site in Mexico. However, for several reasons this building was vacated decades ago. Do you remember the button I pressed when Leo arrived at the base earlier? The alarm button was connected to the mansion. If the button is pressed, a warning signal will appear on the computer screen. "And the only secret way that can be used to escape is the underground tunnel connected to the old building," answered Marco.

“If the danger signal is pressed, those in the mansion will get an emergency signal. They are ready for their respective tasks. Including the person who is picking us up now."

"Then, what if an ignorant person presses the button?" Caterina asked.

“To open the secret door requires facial verification. Not just anyone can open the door and pass through the tunnel. This tool has also been designed to be as sophisticated as possible so that it cannot be broken into and destroyed."

“Wow. You managed it very well, Marco. It must have taken a lot of money to make it.”

Marco just smiled faintly when responding to Caterina's praise. He don't know what happened to him. The man felt confused. Supposedly, he ran away without Caterina. He should have let Leo and Caterina kill each other in his base. He shouldn't have asked Caterina to run away. Marco secretly rubbed his face roughly. Who knows what words he will say to Rossie when he arrives at the mansion later. He don't know what he will say when Rossie finds out Caterina has come with him.

No matter how hard he avoided those feelings, Marco still lost the fact that he really loved Caterina. He couldn't leave Caterina with Leo. He couldn't let Caterina die at the hands of Leo's men. He was very afraid of losing Caterina at this time.

“Marco!”

A tap on the shoulder made Marco blink. He didn't realize he was daydreaming on the way and made Caterina confused.

"What are you thinking?" She asked.

“Oh, nothing. I'm just in shock. We just planned an attack, but instead we were attacked. How ridiculous. We even fought them without preparation," answered Marco.

"If you hadn't taken me away, I would have burned Leo's body and thrown the ashes into the ocean this afternoon." Caterina still regrets Marco's decision to take her away. 

“You're really good at fighting, Kate. But, you're not good at reading situations. Do you know the reason why Leo didn't counter your attacks and just parried all your kicks and punches?” Marco asked.

Caterina shook her head.

“He wants to tire you out. When you're tired, you can be knocked out easily. That is one of the attack techniques in the mafia world. If you continue to attack even though Leo doesn't return the attack, gradually you will tire yourself out. It would be different if Leo countered your attack. Sometimes a blow from the enemy doesn't make us lose, but makes us even more enthusiastic in fighting."

"I don't understand, Marco."

“He's waiting for you to let your guard down. I saw you were running out of energy, that's why I immediately grabbed your hand and took you away," continued Marco.

"You're right. It felt different when fighting with Leo's men. Their blows made me angry and even more eager to attack."

"You have to be good at reading situations, Kate."

Caterina learned many things when she got to know Marco. The woman thanked him so many times that she didn't realize that the car taking her away had stopped. In front of there, stood a very spacious luxurious mansion. The fence is as big as a giant and made of red bricks.

When they arrived at the mansion, all eyes seemed to be looking at Caterina from head to toe. This made Caterina a little uncomfortable. Apart from being new, Caterina's face and name have already been blacklisted.

Rossie immediately rushed over to Marco when she saw Caterina walking beside her brother.

"What is she doing here?" Rossie asked, pointing at Caterina's face.

“Rossie, let's talk about this inside. Come in and sit down; I'll explain why I brought her here," said Marco.

"Don't want to. I don't want to sit in the same room as the enemy. Brother, don't you see? All eyes here are looking at this woman strangely. Not only me, but everyone here doesn't like her existence.”

“Enough, Rossie!”

“Send her home! I don't want to see her hanging around here!” Rossie ordered.

“Why do you hate me so much, Rossie? Haven't I explained that Gabriel and I have no relationship? Likewise with me and Marco. We're just friends," explained Caterina.

"I'm not talking to you!" Rossie exclaimed.

“I apologize for the incident that happened to Gabriel. Leo is outrageous; that's why I'm joining you here. He killed my father, so I am also his enemy now.”

“Shut up! Don't say anything because I don't want to hear it.” Rossie glared sharply.

“We were attacked by Leo and his troops. That's why I asked for help by pressing the danger button," explained Marco.

“I didn't ask about that, bro. What I'm asking is, why did you bring her here?" Rossie was really angry with Marco's decision, which was beyond reasonable limits.

“Because I like Kate! I don't want to lose her; that's why I brought her here. Is the answer not clear enough?"

Not only was Rossie shocked by that answer. Caterina looked disappointed to hear Marco's answer. Rossie burst out laughing, laughing at a joke made by her older brother that made everyone look at her.

“Your joke isn't funny at all, but it's enough to make me laugh. Now, tell me why you brought her here!”

“Because I like her, Rossie! You are right. I really fell in love with her."
