59. Leonardo Who Never Gave Up

Caterina sat on the edge of the bed. The classic feel in the room she currently lives in reminds Caterina of her father. No matter how hard she hides her tears, in the end they will fall because of her longing and guilt for Dante. Caterina fingered the pendant that Dante had given her, which was still around her neck, while closing her eyes. In silence, she prayed for eternity for her father in heaven. She didn't ask for much; Caterina just wanted Dante to rest in peace without carrying a grudge.

“Dad, even if I die, I will not forgive that bastard. I swear I will avenge you on him. Heads must be paid for heads; lives must be paid for lives. Don't cry there, and be happy wherever you are," said Caterina while wiping the tears from her cheeks.

The clock is moving very slowly. Caterina still couldn't close her eyes and decided to count the seconds that passed by while sighing. The woman remembered Marco's confession in front of many people. It made her very uncomfortable. Knowing that Marco was lying when she asked and that the man actually said something unexpected in front of so many people made Caterina think even more.

She don't know what was going on in Marco's mind, why he said that in front of so many people who saw her as an enemy. Caterina could feel the sincerity in Marco's words. There was no lie in the man's eyes when their eyes met. However, it seems like that feeling resides in the wrong place. Caterina couldn't possibly reciprocate Marco's feelings, but she also didn't have the heart to hurt Marco. Rejecting this expression of feelings would only embarrass Marco. Caterina couldn't bear to hurt the people who had helped her train and had always been by her side all this time.

Caterina couldn't possibly judge Marco for the feelings that arose between them. They spent many days together. This made Caterina understand why Marco fell in love. Even though all this time she only considered Marco as a good friend, in fact Marco felt the opposite.

"I'm just wandering around because I can't sleep," answered Caterina.

"Don't think I will be on your side even though Marco has told you how he feels. To me, you are still an enemy of the family and an intruder in this base. I will be watching and will kill you if you dare act suspiciously!” threatened Rossie.

“Okay, it's okay, Rossie. Do whatever you want to do. I don't mind. Even though Marco likes me, I also only think of him as a good friend. No more than that. So you don't need to worry."

“You're very clever at taking advantage of the situation, Kate. After making a mess in the La Vendetta, you want to make a mess in here You're such a parasite!”

As she walked closer, Caterina suddenly covered her mouth with both hands. Tears escaped her eyes when she saw Gabriel lying helpless with the help of various medical equipment attached to his body.

“Ga-Gabriel? Is it really you?” Caterina touched the hand of the man who was still in a coma with tears falling.

“I'm sorry, Gabriel. I'm sorry," said Caterina while sobbing. If it weren't for her, the poor man probably wouldn't have had this fate.

If time could be turned back, Caterina might never have brought Gabriel into her troubles. Because of his stupidity, Gabriel had to endure the bitter reality throughout his life.

“I should...not have done that. I shouldn't have made you like this.”

Caterina held Gabriel's hand and called the name of the man who was lying stiff while crying. As Marco said, Caterina never thought about what would happen in the future. She only thinks about how to solve one problem, without thinking about the impacts that will be faced in the future. Regret is just regret. Time cannot be turned back; Gabriel is also lying in a coma.

Caterina subconsciously clenched her fists tightly. Her eyes were blood red. A fire seemed to be burning in her chest, remembering what Leo had done to Gabriel and her father. “Come out of where you're hiding right now, Kate. Or I'll destroy this place. I'm not kidding, Caterina! Get out, or everyone here will die!” Leo's threat made everyone panic.

"Don't just stay silent; look for that bastard woman until you find her!" Rossie ordered his men.

Not wanting to make Gabriel's life even more miserable, Caterina decided to come out of her hiding place after praying for Gabriel's safety.

“Enough, Leo! What do you want from me?” Caterina asked.

“Good choice, Kate. A good choice.”
